- The Beatles visited the Old England Hotel in Sutton On Trent for lunch on October 9th 1964, while travelling to Bradford for the first show of their 1964 Autumn UK tour.
I visited the hotel, and spoke to Vivien Stevenette, who met The Beatles that day.

Part 2 to this story here: czcams.com/video/ttcbY_QlyZ4/video.html . I originally intended to tell this story from a completely different point of view, but when Vivien came on board and then we got access to film inside the Old England Hotel, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to focus fully on that as it was beyond what I could have hoped for.
Part 2 is a mysterious tale of how I got involved in this in the first place based on a photo that turned up in the most unlikeliest of places, with a personal connection, and how I had to turn in to an amateur Columbo to figure out what the heck was going on....
Part 2 is the behind the scenes story 😉
Looking forward to part 2.
I loved this! It’s so touching that Paul went out of his way to greet Vivian and have his picture taken with her. I wonder if John had a headache from not wearing his eyeglasses.
Or the alcohol.
John did have prescription sunglasses... as did Buddy Holly.
Paul is a genuine kind human being.
Paul again proving that he's probably one of the nicest human beings on this planet.
My smile muscles haven't had a workout like this for ages! THANK YOU for this 1000% feel-good story💖🔥🎶
What a beautiful story! How special for that young girl to have this moment in her life - Gotta love Vivien's Mum for making a wish come true (the true heroine of the story)!!!!
Great video, enjoyed it very much….you can tell even today the joy Vivien had meeting The Beatles, especially Paul, who went the extra mile to interact with her.
Lovely story. Thanks Andrew and Vivien!
Meeting The Beatles would no doubt have been far more memorable than some humdrum day at school.
Wow, what a great video. I really found it interesting as I'm the same age as Vivien and would have discovered The Beatles earlier that year when they appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show. I can only imagine how excited I'd have been to have met them at that age and, especially, had my photo taken with Paul McCartney.
Great story and well done for getting it organised. I heard a similar story about a pub further down in Norhamptonshire. However, I now realise that is the same story. As the one I heard had Paul meeting the little girl and John with sunglasses on. I am glad I now know the whole story to the bits I had heard before.
Very cool video. What a FAB experience for Vivien. Nice to hear how Paul went out of his way to be so nice to her.
I love the traveling episodes that you have filmed over the last few years! It is definitely a unique feature on your channel that is not seen on other Beatle channels. (Although to be fair, it would be very expensive for the US channel owners to do these travel videos in England). Really fun to see your videos taken at various Beatle locations.
Thank you, glad you enjoy them 🙂👍
Wow this is definitely once in a lifetime stuff. Her mom should have been named mother of the year for pulling her out of school to meet her heroes. Great video!💯👍
What a great story Andrew and wonderful video. Thanks so much for sharing.
Great video, very informative.👍🏻🍏🍏🍏🍏
What a wonderful video! Touchingly sweet. Thank you so much, and tell Vivien "Hello, lucky girl" from this Beatle fan in North Carolina, USA. I was just discovering their music about the time that Vivien got to meet them.
Kim, I'm also from NC. I was a baby in 64, but I definitely grew up hearing the Beatles music.
I do love these little stories. Thank you for sharing 👍🏻
Brilliant! Thanks so much for a look back at such a special time.
Lovely story!
Wonderful story. Thanks for sharing.
Great wee video, really enjoyed meeting someone who actually met them in person. How to become really popular at school! Keep up these exclusive mini-documentaries!
Great story and video. And I didn’t realize they had added I Should Have Known Better and I’m Happy Just To Dance With You to the late 1964 shows as well as bringing Money back. It would be great if any audio of those shows were available.
This is easily the best video you've done, Andrew! I'm in awe. Great research, superbly cut and trimmed to bring us 9 minutes of sheer joy. 💯
Thank you very much, very kind of you 🙂👍
You did the right thing. So cool you met them.
What a fantastic video! Thank you so much for posting it.
Brilliant stuff Andrew. So kind of Vivian to participate and make this a very compelling video.
I'd imagine that there are many places in the Kingdom that have their own tales to tell when they were visited by the lads.
What a great story, such a great video Andrew. Thanks for sharing !
This was an excellent video, really enjoyed watching this. I don’t think I would’ve gave my autographs away though. Thanks Andrew for this
A good little story, and very nicely done.
Great video mate. Great that you could document this. Nicely done
Absolutely Awesome Video Andrew
I’ve often wondered if The Beatles drove through, or past, my hometown of Grantham. This answers that question!
They must have done it many times up and down the A1 !
Really fun video Andrew. I love these kinda stories videos, because there just so down to earth and relaxing. And i laughed so much when you of course had to be Paul McCartney on the recreation of the photograph (I would have done the same, but still).
You got to take your chances in life! 😄

Wonderful!! So Awesome! I love these “stories” you do.
This says a lot about Paul McCartney. There's a story too that actress Alison Steadman (pre fame) tells which casts him in a good light where she follows John and Paul in search of an autograph.
Really nice video, Andrew, thanks to you and Vivien!
Hello Andrew I had read about this so when you met Vivian who is quite a nice lady, brought it back to life again I really enjoyed that ,Paul was very kind to her great footage .Thanks
Marvelous, & post-USA & post-Hard Day's Night, which makes it even better: the band was fully formed.
Good job the council don;t own that hotel, else it would have been knocked down years ago.
Wonderful. Thank you very much.
Brilliant video, Andrew. Can't wait for part two.
Lovely story Andrew.
Brilliant. Subbed.
Great shirt
Wasn't the driver Alf Bicknell?
For anyone wondering the same , I clarified with David over on Twitter that the driver wasn't Alf 🙂
Would the chauffeur be Alf Bicknall?
No, that's not Alf.
And it doesn't look like Bill Corbett either, so it's a bit of a mystery at the moment.
@@manortheatrecompanystoke-o8346 I'll take your word on that one, I don't know Bill Corbett.
If you look at him on the internet, oddly the man on the far right of the photo looks more like Bill Corbett. He drove The Beatles during 1963 up towards the latter part of 1964.
