- Time to start modifying my new 2023 Honda XR150L, and in true LifeOfBurch fashion, you know we gotta start with mods that are either FREE or CHEAP! Today we took off the dorky warning labels, threw on some turn signals, modified the foot pegs, and modified the stock exhaust. But one of these mods definitely gives me the vibes that Honda did NOT want me doing it hahah
Which of today's modifications was your favorite and which mods/accessories do you want to see me do to this thing in the future?! Stay tuned because I already ordered all of the OEM accessories that Honda Powersports offers for the 2023 XR150 and they'll all be going on soon!
Get the turn signals featured in the video here!- amzn.to/42hEN82
OR get the other (possibly darker) turn signals that I mentioned here!- www.ebay.com/itm/193848101136...
(Sometimes the turn signals will go out of stock temporarily. If that happens, any CBR300R turn signals should work just the same.)
This is the high temp paint that I used for the modified exhaust bracket- amzn.to/3WS8jQv
Oh and this is the fanny pack that I showed on the XR150's rear rack- tinyurl.com/bdhs4c62

As I got older I learned that quiet/stealth was an advantage when riding in areas that may be questionable to be in.
Also more riding areas have been lost due to louder bikes and complaining neighbors than probably any other reason.
And as far as the spark arrestor, yep you are illegal now on the State/National Forest trail and fire roads.
Sounds better with it in if you ask me it’s a dual sport not a dirt bike.
100% agree. The longer you ride, the more you realize a quiet bike is better.
nerd
In the future they will all be electric bikes. And they are actually pretty good. Just waiting for battery technology to catch up.
His real name is DumbAzBurch .
Honestly I'd keep the exhaust stock. I like quiet vehicles
😆
And why not? We should all be able to ride what we like, how we like... within reason of course. No doing wheelies in the supermarket isle dudes.
@@martythemartian99 personally owning a truck with the exhaust practically chopped off and having to drive it to and from work every day has influenced my decision. If I get one I might paint it camo though.
Even a rattlesnake knows there are times to be silent and times to make noise. Use the horn when you need attention.
@@martythemartian99yeah I want some jackass with an uber loud Harley waking me up at 2 am
I did a lot of mods on my XR here in the Philippines: wide footpegs $10, aluminum skidplate $65, sleek mirrors $6, renthal basic aluminum handlebars $6, PZ27 carburetor $7, risers, phoneholder usb combo mount, voltmeter, oil temp guage dipstick, foam grip covers, Acerbis handguards, front fender extension, license plate bracket reflector delete (we have a different rear fender than the US) and just this week, I rewired the headlight/taillight to DC. I have a LED taillight and headlight on order.
Where did u this things buyed?
Where do you buy stuff?? Don't care about shipping just neeeed moooddsss!!!
@@placeboreject7247 Dear Junkie, obvious u dont know the special circumstandes of the philipps, i am a Cebu-known foreigner myself, getting a first contact with renting the xr 150, cause less danger of running flat with off road tyres. Covid disrupted my stay unfortunatelly, but "i will back!", and i love this simple bike more than a big 500cc or even the new 700cc. Perhaps cause i have had a mtx 80 in younger days.
Maybe you set up a Web page, list parts with pictures, and as people order them you mail them to Americans? It could be a nice side gig bringing you extra money and you charge whatever your time is worth. And your time is priceless. You could charge 2 or 3 times what you are paying and have customers covered the shipping. I had a bunch of Filipino friends when I was in the Navy.
Can u show us in a video the mods. Help the Honda community. Ty
Last time I rode in tennis shoes (when I was 15) I wadded up my Cr80r after colliding with a dog that ran out in front of me, I was in 6th gear and spooling up to about 60mph, I had no time to swerve as it ran out of the trees in front of me. Needless to say, my shoes flew off my feet and I shredded my jean jacket. As it was hanging off me in bloody tatters, I searched the bushes for my shoes for 20 minutes. My sister who was a disc jockey at a local radio station in Alaska dedicated "Die with your boots on" by Iron Maiden to me the next day lol. NEVER ride in tennis shoes, spend the money and get good boots..
Pure Facts /\ Which is why his real name is DumbAzBurch.
A lot of parks and forest areas require spark arresters. So might be a good idea to buy a new one to keep in the tool bag just in case.
was gonna say this but you beat me to it
What they don't know, won't hurt em.
@@chancelormusic1577 they do know, they check, and you get fined and tossed out.
@@chancelormusic1577 1 forest fire later...
@Gabe H. I live in ohio. Not a wet state, but not a lot of Forrest fires. They don't care at the trails around here lol. What happens if you have an older bike that doesn't have this feature? You're just screwed??
You'll probably want to rejet after opening the exhaust because it may be running too lean now. It probably runs borderline too lean stock to meet emissions. That popping on decel is a sign of lean fueling.
Everyone's forgotten because of injection. Lean is bad and can burn a hole through a piston. 30 minutes work on a 2 stroke, a trip to the dealer and no warranty on this bike.
And he probably cost himself a horse, horse and a half, of power. Modern cans ain’t just baffles like the ‘70s. There’s actually some tuning that’s gone into them due to the emissions process. It’s louder, but it’s no more powerful. I’d put it back.
@@mitchwinder1204 I forget how it works, or used to work. Short exhaust = more torque, longer = more high end. You need a PHD to understand what goes on in a 2 stroke exhaust. Loud doesn't mean better.
@@mitchwinder1204 That is absolutely true. The engineers who design these engines and exhaust systems know what they are doing, to get the least noise with the most power. I don't like them loud anyway. I'd keep it stock if I get one.
@@dicksonfranssen this is a four-stroke engine you don't put expansion chamber's on 4 strokes an expansion chamber is a tune echo device to push wasted exhaust and gas back into the cylinder believe it or not and that's what gives the two stroke expansion chamber it's extra power and yes there are torc pipes and RPM pipes/ chambers. depending on how the engine is tuned.
I’d be careful with freeing up airflow through the exhaust, fueling is generally set lean from the factory (mostly emission reasons) and removing the exhaust will cause the fuel mix to lean out more. with a efi system it doesn’t matter because the ecu will be able to detect a lean mix and correct it, but on a carb the only way to adjust fuel mix is by physically tuning the carb. The lean factory fuel mix and removing the exhaust might make a dangerously lean fuel condition for the engine. I would check the spark plugs regularly for a while and see if they’re showing any signs of a lean fuel mix.
That’s a lot of fancy words magical mystery carb man 🤨🤔 But in all seriousness, I plan on keeping an eye on if it ends up running leaner, but I highly doubt that’ll happen just from removing a spark arrestor. Cat is still intact keeping back pressure and the outlet size from the cat isn’t changed by this. It just replaces the spark arrestor with an echo chamber essentially lol
GREAT ADVICE PAL
EFI will not adjust enough neither... thats only on cars really- or anything with 3 map sensors- and at least 2 o2 sensors... EFI works on a set map/ kinda looks like a graph. if it goes below or above this graft's chart- you will get the exact same thing.
@@johnwalker7592 Yup--Tattoed host is messing up the fueling. Unless he did baseline measurements of the engine temps (on identical days), prior to his exhaust HACK(Job) he won't know until it overheats, causing premature engine wear and failure. This is just Honda abuse, and his cavalier, sarcastic attitude to "vaporwave4207" does not surprise me, because anyone ignorant enough to do "change for change's sake" is too ARROGANT to take advice from someone with more knowledge than him.
@@1TruePatriot well said, ntm when you do this you WILL lose power period. thats not only the arrestor but also the baffle. so now its running lean as shit and lost power. the cats work in conjunction w baffles. but hey its his bike and he can totally fuck it up which he did. let him hack away lol
You could also put cards in the spokes.
haha i did that all the time
I just picked up one of these XR150l's yesterday and I'm loving it already. I bought it as a small bike to my Versys 1000 but also as a small bore riding companion with my wife's Honda Monkey. This is about to be a blast.
Sounds like you got it for the perfect reason! This thing has been a BLAST so far! 🙌🏻
That bike is literaly inmortal. Here in Argentina is used mainly by delivery guys and is common to see it with over 60000 miles still running strong. Very common mods for that engine family are 190cc or 220cc big bore cylinder, performance camshaft, Servitec CDI and bigger carburetor (OEM XR250 or CRF230 carb will be great not chinese crappy flatslide). Easily hit over 20hp to the wheel very realiable because the bottom end is very strong.
Probably you can source some performance parts from Vedamotors (Brazil) because that engine is very popular too there.
I just bought one yesterday for commuting to work. You really can't beat the price.
@LifeOfBurch Exhaust mod completed, love the new sound of my bike. I can actually hear it at a stop idling with my helmet on...lol
Your instructions were spot on, including the recommended size of the hole saw. I did add some steel screens (2) behind the large metal ring washer and ordered a replacement arrestor as well. Keep the vids coming and thank you from a new subscriber!
Like your video.
You may need to re-jet since you reduced the exhaust back pressure.
I'm sure you don't want to be burning valves because of a free modification.
My question is, did you get any more power after taking out the spark arrestor? Not that it'd make it a highway machine or anything, but I'm curious.
YES! love that free footpeg mod! The smoke lights look badass!
I love it! Keep going! You're so funny! Provide lousy advice when you don't know what you're doing. Then get pissed off when Honda doesn't appreciate it. Oh, and have you learned how to rejet a carb yet?
yes he has
Dude that freaking ending killed me I'm over here dying of laughter hahaha. Awesome vid my friend.
Tastefully done cheap/free mods! Awesome job man!
Thanks Michael!! I’m definitely very pleased with the results! 😎🤘🏻
Since I'm planning on getting this for my own first bike these videos are awesome definitely worth a subscribe
Ayy stoked to have you along for the ride!! 🤘🏻
Sounds so good!
What a great, thorough video - thanks for sharing
Aren’t spark arresters meant to prevent forest fires if you drop your bike in a dry forest trail?
I keep coming back for the sound of that muffler. Just love it
Hell yeah man, sounds great way more natural.
You make a very high-quality video so congratulations. I’m a lot older than you, but I’m stoked also!
Very good info about the pipe , sounds great 🙏
Nice mods! Sounds better while riding for sure!
Thanks Doc!! Video doesn’t even do it justice- it sounds SO much better now! 🙌🏻
This man is thorough 👏🏻
Amazingly, my dealer has four of each color. I'd definitely want to stay stock until after break-in. I'll gladly wait for Yoshi to release a pipe/slip-on. I had one on my XR650L (jetted) and boy it had some "POP!"
Jardine is even better, and American made. I've had both on a couple different bikes.
The sound is perfect great solution
Great video Burch !!! 🤙🏽
Thanks brotha!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Really like XR 150 bike thanks for brilliant videos class safe riding 👍
Fantastic mods 👏
Low key sounds like the gun from an A-10. All braaps. Love it
Sounds way better!
How hard is it to add a Kickstart on the Honda would be a great backup ,I can't on my xr650l
I'm convinced this bike is a better value than the Trail 125. I grew up on one and planned to get one, but this thing has the rear rack and more.
It's almost half the price of the trail 125. With better suspension, so yeah it better be a better deal.
It’s the best 2 wheel smile-per-mile value I’ve ever bought, of 10 bikes. Get one.
Test rode the Grom, Navi, CF Moto and the Kawasaki mini bikes. Having a 2014 KLR it felt like there was nothing under me. The first test ride on the XR150L sold me. Bought it within a week!
Sold my '22 Trail 125 because it was lucky to go 45 and was just too dangerous on the roads where everyone drives 60 to 70. My XR150L is much much better. ✌️
These bikes are just so practical. Honda has a winner here.
Yeah the ramp but, the forks looked like they bottomed out and the rear bounced....
Adjustable ?
Any more power or top speed with the exhaust mod?
I just purchased this motorcycle as well. I'm having what sounds like a top end noise from the valvtrain when the bike is hot. Are you experiencing the same thing? Trying to see if it is normal operation before I make an appoinment at the dealer.
Seems that you might have got the correct combination. Sounds great!
"smoked" covers attenuate light emission. Personally I would rather other drivers saw my turn signals more easily. So for me the brighter the better, within limits. There are vehicles that sound awesome exhaust is uncorked. I don't think there are any audio advantages to listening to a loud small displacement engine. But I can think of advantages writing quietly and pleasantly on a trail bike.
good job with the exhaust mod.
Really like the exhaust mod. Excellent
Thanks dude! 😎🤘🏻
Same 👍
Good job on the muffler, it sounds sick. Will be doing the same to mine
Love this channel ❤
Starting out on dirtbikes this little thing is so tempting
Bro you’re more than welcome to come rip this thing some time! (No homo)
@LifeOfBurch 👀 don't tempt me lol I have some time the next couple days and I'll do it!
Due to strict emissions standards, motorcycle manufacturers now must produce bikes to run "lean" to pass emissions tests. Your prolly going to want to re-jet the carb ASAP, now that you have removed the "db killer" from the muffler. Which in turn makes your bike run even "more lean". Lol, don't attempt any air box mods or add any high flow air filters to the mix until the re-jet.
You will end up melting a hole in the top of your piston. You also might want to consider running high octane gasoline to prevent any engine knocking due to the extra lean condition too.
Off highway riding in western states is pretty much no bueno without a spark arrestor. Forest service and law enforcement that patrol off highway will stop and check for a spark arrestor.
I like the XR150 for a small run around bike.
Sounds like the old school bikes I rode back in the 80s, Thats a good thing.
Did it help performance at all ? That would have been nice to know did freeing up the exhaust help with power ????
This is a perfect beginners bike. Light not over powered. Best thing 0:20 to learn riding on
So no performance issues with the carb or anything removing that spark arrest
Instead of using your foot and the ground to saw the spark arrestor a vice would have been much safer.
I like to be seen and like quiet exhaust but I’m old. Modified exhaust does sound good though. Foot peg mod looks great. I just came back from a muddy ride and rubber was slippery.
How much faster does it go with the upgraded turn signal lenses?
I’ve never rode but plan on buying a bike been watching a lot of your videos since you ride the Navi and xr out of the two what would you recommend out of the two for a beginner
One of those would fit perfectly on a rack on the back of my camper.
I like it with the end caps sounds like a 70s XL. That were indestructible
With that exhaust mod I would modify the airbox and put in a bigger main jet so it will actually improve some performance.
Sounds great bud .
January 15 2024. I am considering this bike for my around town bike. Thank you for your content.
Spark arrestors help prevent forest fires. If you're riding in the woods, you need one, ask Yogi.
You didn’t see my last video when I put out the fire?! I’m ready! 🔥😂
Firefighter Burch over here!
I dropped my XR150L the night I bought it. Just 10 hours after I bought it with cash.
It's mine forever now. 3,500 kms (as of December 22, 2023).
I drive it daily, and so far so good.
Sounds so much nicer... I would just check the air/fuel mixture. Great content!
I’m so stoked on how it sounds!! I’ll definitely keep an eye on things to make sure it’s not running lean, but I don’t see there being an issue just from this. Thanks for watching and commenting! 🤘🏻
Sounds great! our endcap is stainless here, so we get a little bling with the braap..lol
A lot of them (including mine) run bad out of the box, I was actually wondering if this might help flow
@lifeofburch can you follow up on the "is it too lean" point?
@@Mr.Heitman I'd like a part 2 as well!
I did the exhaust mod on my 2017 XR150L and i was to loud and found it lost HP. So i cut off the spark arrester screen and put the end cap back in. HP went back to normal and sound went down just enough for my liking. My exhaust is a little different. My end cap is chrome. My foot pegs not the same either. I don't have the rat trap style under the rubber. The rubber is not able to be removed. I did jet the carb and have the cam ground. I also purchased a set of street tires and off road tires and switch them when i am going off roading. I also put a smaller sprocket on the front for off roading. My exhaust looks stock and at idle is quiet witch is very important for passing inspection here in the Philippines.
Did the acceleration improved by the exhaust modification?
A drain trap screen will make a spark arrestor . I did that on a 250L. Thanks for the video.
Sounds better, but now you can’t take it on trails. A spark arrestor isn’t just a baffle
That crackling sound on roll off is a lean condition. You should rejet for the decreased back pressure
The first mod/accessory I add is the throttle assist sometimes called a throttle paddle. I literally just pulled it off my old bike when I sold it and put it on my new bike. totally recommend it to anyone who does any long haul highway riding.
Pretty sure he's not doing any long distance highway riding on a 150cc bike.
@@paulp.6399 That's cool. But there are plenty of people who do. I've done several long distance trips that take days to complete on my 150cc.
Another great video! Are you sure you won't have to do a jet job on that now? I'm not saying you will, I'm just not sure?
Sounds great now!
I’m super stoked on how well it turned out!! 🙌🏻🤘🏻
Mod 2 for this guy. Wear heals so your feat stay on the pegs
HELLO!
Gotta love the free and cheap mods. If I had one I'd definitely wait for that aftermarket bracket just to keep the stock parts incase I need it.
Cheap (and free!) mods are awesome for sure.
Free and cheap mods are the way to go! And also help balance out all the money I dump into my 1100 😂 I looked it up and the spark arrestor is actually only like $45, which isn’t bad if I ever want to swap it to be quieter for any reason!
@@LifeOfBurch I’ve only ever seen spark arrestors required if you’re riding on public lands during high fire season. It was super common when I lived out west.
@LifeOfBurch ⬆️⬆️⬆️
Turn signal mod: Take 'em off.
Would be super curious to see you do a comparison of the TW200 and this new xr150!
I definitely would love to get my hands on a TW200 soon!
I've got a 2020 just come to Denver
I can feel this kids, giddy excitement channel through the camera. I feel like his giddiness is palpable. I love when you first get another motorcycle when you cannot wait to wake up and go look at it some more.
Looking at that end cap I bet my 230cc or I think it’s same for most Hondas but the crf stock end cap thing that holds the baffle in would fit I bet
Rad thanks!👍
Arrow exhausts sound really nice on the xr, not too loud but not quiet
Just got my XR150 yesterday and put 100 miles on it. I'm mostly on the road and was planning to replace the exhaust with an aftermarket setup from amazon. Maybe this is a better and less expensive option.
Congrats on the new bike!! I was considering one of the Amazon ones too, but after doing this there’s definitely no need to. This is the perfect volume for me and I’m sure the Amazon one would be MUCH louder, plus I’ve heard the Amazon one needs some bending to fit anyway.
@@LifeOfBurch the Amazon ones are super loud. But the good thing is they drop a lot of weight, compared to the stock heavy pipe.
This bike has been popping upnin my feed and dammit, i want one now. Been 20 years since i had one. Perfect machine to take back and forth to my camp 20 miles away from home. 3k doesn't even get a new sled anymore.
You should have an affiliate I can use when I go to buy one because damn it you and that price tag convinced me
Dude if only I was that cool!! 😂
Love the way you crap up every bike you get your hands on! LOL
The foot-peg modification was my favorite.
It’s a game changer for sure!!
I definitely like the new sound.
Did removing spark arrester increase fuel mileage?
Awesome!
With having that flat plate for the end cap, you could clamp in some stainless screening across the exhaust opening to act as a spark arrestor now too.
Placing the screen(s) behind the washer/gasket also works.
Does this bike have shim over bucket or lock nut and screw type valves ?
You could have just sprayed the oem turn signals with the smoked spray paint for that and made it as dark or light as you wanted
They cost me $10 per lens including shipping. I have a bottle or two of the spray tint in my laundry room that’s never been used because it just makes WAY more sense to not waste my time on prep, paint, making sure they’re all the same shade, etc. when the entire turn signal is THAT cheap. I didn’t explain it in this video assuming people had seen the last, but that’s why I chose these over wasting my life painting the stock ones.
Oh man, I want one so bad and they are so cheap. Great video
I would love to tool around on this bike around town or take it down to the beach! So cool!
It’s literally the perfect bike for that!! That’s pretty much what I plan to use it for 🤘🏻
I live close to the bay and not far from the beach. I wish I could haul my longboard with my XR but don't think it would be smart with a 10ft longboard. I need a sidecar for that!
That 150 is SWEET 👀 someday I'll have one!
Let’s gooo!! You’ll have one before you know it! 😎🤘🏻
Since I only ride bikes with abs brake system, is this bike will be dangerous?
This bike is similar to a dr200 handling and power wise?
Since this is a carbureted bike don't you need to re-jet because you've lost exhaust back pressure?
With the exhaust mod will it go over 62 mph?
