- Today we are playing as the most doomed country in the hoi4 millennium dawn mod. Chechnya is a rather horrible place, as if the horrible economics and low population weren't enough. It starts at war with russia, so as the best hoi4 player I must destroy them for you ;))))

Seeing how Chechenya survived much longer in history than is possible in this game makes me think that Russia is a bit too strong in this mod- or Chechens are too weak.
Especially considering the fact that the first war between them was won by Chechnya.
I think both. There needs to be a massive debuff to Russia for how corruption is eating their military alive, and Chechnya needs a spirit like Finland did at release that gives them a chance

The second chechen war ended in 2009.
It took russia 9 years to be able to defeat chechnya, and they managed by using treason by kadirov and previous to him his father to assist russia.
Same with how they targeted the leaders of the resistance, the assassinations were done by traitors.
Intresting thing though that many fighters and commanders in chechnya were originally from saudi arabia and other arab countries and from dagistan and bosnia as well.
In every war muslims flock and send volunteers for war though it happens without approval of their governments.
For instance one of the most important commanders in chechnya was sayf al islam khattab, his real name salim al souleim, originally a saudi who fought in afghanistan and first chechen war and bosnia and in second chechen war, he is considered a role model in our society.
He was assassinated in 2008 by a traitor who was paid to do it by a poisonous letter.

I did see somebody take over dagestan and lower his war support enough that he could white peace and he kept dagestan so that's kind of a win.
@@mappingshaman5280 if you're talking about Mate he could only peace out because he used the console to change his war support so he could get a white peace and he was able to occupy the land because the Russian army hadn't arrived yet

Fun fact: before millenium dawn and modern day 4 united, Chechnya started at peace with Russia, and as you have the same outlook (emerging, basically ideology in MD) you could join their faction and they'd bypass the focus to war you

Playing Chechnya in this mod is like continuously running into a brick wall and expecting to be able to run through walls eventually, 3 months in is a testament, even with the 'weaken Russia' modifier.
From a comment explanation. Most of the reasons was because of the traitor causing problems.
Funny to think this country delivered the most embarrassing military failure in modern Russian history, if only the start date was a few years earlier...

@@Litium_Greinder Not even comparable, Ukraine has close to a million active personnel and is supplied by NATO with modern weaponry and has been planning for this eventuality for close to a decade now, or more. Chechnya's peak strength during the First Chechen War was 6000 men fighting 250,000 Russian soldiers using nothing but Soviet stockpiles as a country that had barely existed for two years when hostilities began. Russia's loss against Chechnya is so utterly horrific that the struggle in Ukraine is Childs play by comparison.
@@jackthetimberlog7023That's now, at the start of the conflict Ukraine had but a fraction of the promised military aid and were facing the most organized advance Russia has executed in modern history. Chechnya is definitely more embarassing for Russia but we can definitely see they didn't learn their lesson

Chechyna should atleast be given a high defense modifier at the cost of attack, they basically held for 10 years until they were betrayed in the end

They not held for 10 years. Grozny was liberated from terrorists in february 2000. Organaized chechen defence ended in 2000. After 2000 they used partisan tactics.

Partisan tactics could be used by anyone, from terrorists to revolutionaries, or government agents and mercenaries. Hell, the country that pioneered modern guerilla war was a kingdom, that hasn't capitulated yet, that being Spain. So losing your capital sucks, but it still took Russia 9 years to basically pacify their formal army and force a real surrender.

well thats because the goal of the chechen wars was never to capitulate them. Chechnya is still de facto independent to this day, they arent the same as the other federal republic in Russia they have their own special status. The reason the Chechen wars started was because of terrorism. It was never that Maskhadov wanted Chechnya to be independent, it was because Maskhadov wasnt doing anything to stop the Jihadists from massacring non-muslims in Chechnya (mainly because he saw it as an internal issue and didnt want Russian troops in Chechnya).
Anti-Terrorism campaigns always take forever, and rarely work.

To those who want a basic sum up of the history behind the event, the two Chechen wars were a series of Islamic themed rebellions against the Russian state to form Chechnya as an independent sovereign state, in the first war Russia lost pretty badly to a bunch of militiamen an insurgents, They then became such a big thing in Russian politics it would allow Putin the current leader of Russia to make his political power grab and make him look like a hero of the people by winning the second conflict, though he would brutally put down the Chechnyas once and for all but at a pretty bad price as the Islamic fighters refused to give up a inch of land without blood,During the conflicts though the war on terror would begin and Russia would actually try to get sympathy from the United States by talking about how Chechnya was just in Islamic terrorist state And they were somewhat right as Chechnya did involve itself in multiple acts of terrorism and many of its political elite had very strong tendencies to support certain groups of people

Two key factors that catered toward the Chechen defeat during the "Second" Chechen war was a very brief civil unrest that took place after the "First" Chechen War between the more secular Ichkerian government and the majority Muslim population who had done numbers for Ichkeria and were responsible for their strategic victories during the preceding conflict who sought Chechnya to be governed under stricter Sharia policies, which Ichkeria did employ at the time but there wasn't enough to convince most of the population that they were living in an Islamic State. The second reason was that Akhmad Kadyrov and several other influential pro-Ichkerian military leaders at the time betrayed the people of Chechnya out of greed and corruption as they were (and the majority of the Chechen fighters who pledged allegiance to Kadyrov do to the immense amounts of wealth that would eventually seep their way) bought out by Russia and fought under their flag during the succeeding conflict.

There is actually a reason why russia would want Chechnya dead so bad apparently. Much like America they were afraid of a domino effect of areas declaring independence along with Chechnya so rolling them quickly was of utmost importance if they didn't want to lose even more territory in the caucuses then they already did. That's what I heard anyway. Also winning as Chechnya is literally impossible because you have no focus tree as independent Chechnya so its no surprise it cant be beat

here's some info about real life chechen wars:
chechen rebels have garnered a lot of hatred by the Russian public due to a number of terrorist attacks in russian civilians (some of which may or may not have been instigated by Putin) which then in tern garnered Putin a huge popularity boost as under his presidency Chechen wars (yes both of them) were more or less won by Russia
and the rebellion pacified
point is - Putin was quite literally a nobody before Chechen wars, he became a president at first without elections after Yeltsin resigned
and garnered the public support necessary to win his first elections while already being president

Fun fact: Chechenya won the first chechen war and lost the 2nded, and part of the reason they lost was arguably the inner instability within the nation at the time.
Before first war there was a civil war and warlords, but Russian army was at its lowest + chechens had more heavy weapons(Grad MLRS, tanks, etc.)there werr evn small airforce(decimated in one air raid bu russian Su-25. Actually in frontal battle for airbase of Grozny between tanks russian army won
@@Karton142 Russians won the battle of tanks in the first chechen war, because the number of armor the russians had outnumbered the ones from the chechens. Keep in mind Chechnya only had a population of about 1million. I have never heard of chechens actually having an airforce at that time. Small population means small manpower, which in turn means small amount of soldiers capable of handling aircraft and armor. During the first Chechen war, Chechnya was rallied under one banner and one leader by Dudayev, aside from a small number of corrupt Chechens loyal to the Kremlin. It was only after Dudayev's assassination and after the war ended that Warlords startet splitting the country. Part of the warlords were influenced externally with islamistic ideas, which led to the Chechen invasion of Dagestan under the command of a few islamistic Warlords. At this time the president Aslan Maskhadov offered cooperation to Russia, but Russia declined, wanting to use the invasion and the staged appartment bombings as an excuse to declare war on Chechnya again. Russia has taken our freedom once again after 300 years, but as we did before, we will rise up.

@@mago2267 and also about civil war before 1995 invasion, you can google November 1994 assault on Grozny when mixed force of Russian tankers and Dudaev's opposition forces tried to take city, but failed. And forces of chechnya were not united really, Dudaev had direct control of some units, but some were mercenaries(Khattab for example) and militia that only worked for themselves.

Dudayev was acknowledged as the leader of the nation by Chechens, when he fell, the Chechen soldiers placed their loyalty in their Commanders, like Rome's legions did with their generals. Those commanders are the Warlords you are talking about. Many of them disobeyed Dudayev's successor Aslan Mashkhadov. After the first war there was anarchy in Chechnya

Chechnya was not a ”little rebellion” and it was a real country, much like Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. Just because Russia brutally conquered them doesn’t mean Chechnya or other Caucasian Russian republics like Dagestan and many others aren’t deserving of nationhood for those who want. Dagestan is very much autonomous as well.
