SCX6 Can't Turn Right? Transformed With Easy Fix: Test Lap!

- Axial SCX6 can't turn right properly. Do we need to dump a bucket of dollars into new products or could there be a simpler fix? Good news, everyone! Full credit to Dan Weiss for the suggestion in last videos' comments: the radio could be the culprit! Specifically, steering end-points.

Note: Michael Stuart notes that you can configure end points manually for each end of the DX3 steering throw using the programming dial (it's the closest to the power button end) once you start up in programming mode (full right & full reverse when powering on). Details in manual.
I don't know if maximum percentage on full throw is enough - a quick test on mine suggests it isn't and that it was already at 100% on Right, but your mileage may vary. Can't hurt to give it a go before you change radios!

New radio system: Flysky GT5 transmitter (already have one) and FS-A3 (keep a few around generally). My immediate cost for this fix: $0. Your cost, if you have a GT5 but need an FS-A3 to pull this off: $8.

You can modify the endpoints with the stock system fairly easily, but it's hard to be precise. The flysky radio would make it much easier to do.
Is there a way to have different end points on each end of the one channel?? I didn't think so.. Do tell if you know the process, that's a big deal! Thanks
@@RCTNT yes, the spectrum procedure requires you to have the steering wheel full lock right and full reverse while turning on the remote. Then you can adjust each side independently using the steering percentage knob. It’s kind of a pain to get it just right using the knob but it works. The whole process can be found by searching for spectrum dx3 manual.
Just be careful with the rc your working with because full reverse while turning on the car could send your car through your wall lol.

My man, I just bought one of these (Honcho) after watching all the reviews. I love it, but no one could review this thing honestly without slamming the steering without them being shill, I'm sorry. The worst I saw (other than yours) is a casual mention that it browns out under heavy loads. Heavy loads my a$$. My kitchen floor? Axial should be ashamed to have releasee this with this steering. Anyway, thanks for the most honest reviews and some great tips to improve things without dumping big $$.
Pretty bad eh! I'm still actually running the stock servo but with the bec at 7.4v. Has been better, especially with the CNC upgrades courtesy of venka racing. However, last drive I noticed it's finally starting to properly fade. I'm going to replace it with a beefcake brushless unit at 8.4v I think.

@@RCTNT Yesssir! Just finished installing the BEC @7.2v and my own receiver (flysky g7p - also up to 120%) and it's looking good. Maybe 45 deg but consistent and reliable. I saw your venka vids (also like how your were clear about how you got them and questioning the usefulness of the horn etc... good man). So many shills in this game looking for free stuff out here. This is a huge improvement for now - so I'll try to hold off on the $$$$ for a bit while my wallet recovers from the purchase.
Awesome. It really doesn't need more than that until you wear out the stock one. That will eventually happen but I got a good 8 or 10 decent runs out of it first.
I had a feeling the end points were messed up, the "avc" knob changes dual rate but you don't necessarily want to increase left and right
You definitely want to increase rgt right end point, and you can do it with the original radio or by replacing it as I did (wanted the GT5 for convenience too).
But that's not enough. Oem plastics aren't firm enough. I replaced parts with CNC alu and it was better. I have a subsequent video that shows that:

Nice fix. Loving my Radiolink rc6gs for the inputs you can do. It chews through the batteries though. I will get a small 2s lipo for it eventually.

Oh this is clever! I never thought about using a 100+% end point adjustment for something like this. I had to replace the steering servo in my Sendero. It was absolutely cooked, nearly burned my finger it got so hot. I don't know why exactly but might have had to do with running on the carpet in this room or maybe got too wet the other day😬😂. I stuck an ecopower WP120T I had saved for another project and man I couldn't believe the difference. Never realized you could use the servo's power to find better traction in some situations. Also am trying an amazon/banggood SCX10 metal dig transmission. I have the bowhouseRC skid with spacer for the Sendero. I needed an Element front driveshaft in the rear + a cheap JX low profile servo and a little trimming on the truck cab. I'm using the 3rd channel on the stock radio because that channel has left/right EPA. Works really well and now the truck has 4WD/FWD/dig, but I did lose my overdrive. It's been a fun experiment!

Hi and welcome! Yep, stock servo. I've been using it a bunch and have put a bec at 7.4v in for it too. The servo is rated for that voltage and steers much better. There is fade in hard crawling but it's totally usable and I won't be replacing the servo until I kill this one, if that ever happens. With mechanical sympathy, it may just last. We'll see!

It's just a quick little course, this! But the truck is so big I wanted to iron out problems before I take it somewhere for a proper crawl! Nearly there now!
I drove it quite a few times off camera first before filming (the first video, not this one) so that there wasn't a learning curve disrupting the results. It still isn't scientific but it's indicative of performance, at least!

It still sucks at turning, especially during high grip descents. The tires just roll over. I’m new to crawlers and only have a trx4 ‘21 bronco. Other than a front diff locker, what else can be done? Stiffer foams? Seal the vents, making it a pneumatic tire? Anti-foams, whenever they come out and able to score a set? Overdrive the front? Surely, there’s gotta be something that can be done to make it turn worth a crap.

Stiffer foams with diy dual stage, your own harder inner and keep the stock foam as the outer.
I met someone at a group meet today who had done that and it improved the tire performance. Harder inner from hardware store. Can't recall what he used but I'm sure there'd be options at your average big hardware or plumbing warehouse.
The front diff lock makes it steer worse, not better, but can't do much about that.
Overdrive on the diffs could be pretty hard on the gears given its weight and power.
Really I'd like to see greater throw in the turning. A longer servo arm, perhaps, longer steering linkage and the bump stops shaved in half - as long as the unis are up to it.
Will keep experimenting!

I'm supprised the spektrum end point doesn't go far enough, they are a pain to adjust. The transmitter manual does show individual end point adjustments on the dx3 but most rtr manuals does not show you how to do it.
Mine didn't, but maybe moving the servo horn over one notch and resetting trim could work?
Great video, can these solutions be applied to fix the steering issues in the Redcat TC8 Marksman RC Crawler - 1:8?
I don't know specifically for that rig, but generally speaking, a BEC for steering servo and individual end point adjustment will help any rig, yep.
Nice vid, very informative.. I tried using a radiolink transmitter on my scx6 but it doesnt work, it blinks red light and it doesnt work at all. no str and thr. Any help will greatly appreciated
Happy to help. What receiver did you put in? You can't use the spektrum receiver with the radiolink transmitter, unless their protocols are the same (I don't know for sure but it's unlikely).
If you did replace it, you want to make sure it's the right type to match the transmitter. Not all radiolink receivers work with all radiolink transmitters, same with other brands. Sometimes they use different protocols. Check the manufacturer's site for the model if you're unsure.
Check the Rx is bound successfully to the radio.
Also check you connected the right plugs to the right ports - steering to channel 1, esc to channel 2, shift to channel 3.
Don't forget to check your end points for channel 3, once you get it going. Want to make sure that shifting servo isn't straining!
Well that's weird. My gray SCX III JLU RTR turns too far to the right. There's suppose to be a way with the transmitter off, pushing a button, and turning the steering you can set the end points on the servos. It might work on the 6, looks like the same transmitter.
The end point isn't enough on the stock system, at least not on mine. I did try that, yeah. Different radios have different maximums.
i have an issue with mine which lost my interest when i bought it :( servo doesnt turn to the right at all ! turning circle is bad to the right. straight out of the box ! cant find a fix. tried calibrating and everything.
Understandable that this was frustrating. Hopefully you got some ideas from this video.
My servo has since failed and I replaced it with a much stronger one, as you saw in the other, more recent video. Between it, strengthening the panhard mount and getting the radio end points improved, my Scx6 has been great. It's a shame it needed those fixes, but it was totally worth doing as it's my most used RC vehicle from a vast collection. Hope you can find a way through too!

@@RCTNT I tried the center calibration in the manual, no luck either, not sure what's going on, I put it back to original it's fine but I want more steering, so I guess I will keep trying, I never had issues swapping reciever

@@papazola5300 that's right, better than stock. Can't speak to radiolink, sorry. Haven't had one of those before. You want a radio with end points that go beyond 100%. Different brands vary, but 120% or more would be ideal.
