- Yesterday morning, even though Jackie and Shadow were not at the nest, they were obviously keeping a close eye on it. A neighborhood raven decided to stop by the nest tree and land on a limb above the nest…OOPS, wrong decision…
That poor raven probably did not realize that Jackie and Shadow now consider this to be nesting time, when visitors are not tolerated. As soon as the raven landed, one of our nest-owning pair swooped in behind the raven so close that the raven got completely startled and crashed down from the limb…it quickly recovered and flew away. But that raven will probably think twice before deciding to land on Jackie and Shadow’s nest tree anytime soon.
Today, our protective pair spent time in the afternoon and evening visiting a few of their favorite perch trees in the area. Then they made a late-evening visit to the nest for a little housework before bedtime. Shadow left first and headed to their favorite nearby roost tree. Jackie joined him a few moments later for a lovely night of togetherness.
As fair warning to anyone who might have been thinking about landing on Jackie and Shadow’s nest tree…it’s time to rethink that planning to anyone who might have been thinking about landing on Jackie and Shadow’s nest tree…it’s time to rethink that plan!

BOY!😳 I think like what the lady Said in her comments about those other birds better think twice about ever going anywhere near or even on the nest of Jackie and Shadows cause they are two Eagles you do not want to get mad cause they can and will tear you up! I hope if that Raven is still able to talk and fly that he/she will tell the others and other birds too to not go to J&S’s territory cause they will mess you up. A Cali Condor--'Talons Up' Moment for one of our Eagles. Ravens are very smart and in most real life cases are able to 'Avoid' moments like these. An Eagle sitting in the Nest is a lot different than one on the Wing. Lesson Offered--Lesson learned.
Great move for our one half of our dynamic duo!🎉 who knows how much went on out of the camaras range. Those ravens love to harass these 2!
@@rebeccamartus5859 R5859---Any smaller bird in the air has the Adv. over larger one like an Eagle in 'Straight line' flight harassment. Seems likely the Eagle went on with what it was going to do before it spotted the Raven about to land on the nest tree, Like noted below--I've not seen this happen before either. Perhaps a Juv raven not following Raven 'Protocol for empty nest--(Call first, at a distance, then move in cautiously and if no other lands, it's safe for it to land)

wheelzh8242-- Crows are more an eastern USA bird. Ravens are more predominanly found in the West-- Crows don't have as many Call varieties as a Raven--Ravens about 32(per ptnickb)--they are also highly social,and very intelligent. Although all birds found in the Wild are illegal to own, i raised a Crow in HS(60's) as a Pet--Wonderful experience.

Ravens tend to be more of a pest to the Eagles. They are not usually a threat unless the eggs have been left unattended. Overall, Eagles are able to defend themselves against the ravens.
