Having lived in the Virgin Islands for 20+ years, I was much inspired by the designs of Dick Newick and good friend Roger Hatfield. Have sailed on quite a few and eventually decided to build a Lock Crowther Twiggy Mk IIB up in the hills of Tortola. Couldn't do that with Roger or Dick's designs, cos "Wingover" was built in separate units and assembled on the beach. (Now that Launch Party was a PARTY !!) She took me 4 years to build, she sailed beautifully and was very easy on the eye, with wingmast, mast lowering struts, water ballasting, spade rudder assy., whipstaff steering, etc. I sold her some time ago and since she like us, has sailed to Europe and completed many of the intensely gruelling Round Britain and Ireland Race, winning her class in one. She was last seen in Isle de Oleron (near La Rochelle) in France. Roger Hatfield was incredibly helpful and I do miss that 'island style' way of life. Fair winds and broad reaches to y'all ! Bill
Dick Newick showed his genius with this pretty little thing. Natural aero and hydro dynamics like this appearing in an era of hard sharp flat surfaces is very soothing to the eyes. Thank you guys, a true restoration in many ways.
One of the best trimaran designs ever. love newick's simplicity and sweet lines. She moves through the water so unruffled. Great job on the paint and restoration. I own a 30 foot condor trimaran that is trailerable. But what a job to take her apart and put her together. Wishing you all the best from us Yanks.
She loved so graceful sailing back to the mooring. So nice she'll be in the same location of Camara. Your son is so fortune to be sailing her on future episodes. Thanks for sharing this refit and pray for all safe passages afloat.
Many thanks for the finale in the "Little Wing" restoration saga. She is such an attractive trimaran. I'm sure she will provide your Son and his chosen crew mate with endless enjoyment. Also, congratulations on the excellent camera footage from the chase-dinghy, clearly showing Lttle Wing "leaning" on her starboard out-rigger whilst the port out-rigger was fully clear of the water. I will now subscribe to Camerons channel for more updates on the newly restored Little Wing. Very much looking forward to the upcoming "Big adventure" on board S/Y Camara.
Congratulations on the litany of minor and not so minor repairs, and a beautiful paint job. The interior shows it is well found, all shipshape and Bristol fashion, obviously benefitting from experienced sailors.😀⛵️
Great video series of Little Wing. I'm looking forward to watching Cameron's adventures. Good luck! Aloha, Cullen Corsair F-31R "Delta Vee" Honolulu, Hawaii
She Looks beautiful in the water. Surprised when you showed her flying a hull in such light winds. Everything about her lines says, "Go Fast". I have really enjoyed watching you get her ready to launch and sail. Now What? 😉😃😁
Thank you ☺️ our son is finishing off some jobs on the inside and he’s earning money so he can finish changing the standing rigging and he’s got a few more of the running rigging to replace as well along with a few other upgrades. The plan is that she will sail in tandem with our boat up to the islands but realistically it won’t be this year unless he wins lotto, so he’s aiming for next year 😉
@@Camarasailing Thank you for your reply. I subscribed to your son's new CZcams Channel. Looking forward to seeing what Cameron will develop his channel. give him my best.
So nice to see Little Wing afloat and sailing again, and with my solid dodger still there! Make sure the top of the rudder cassette is well sealed with goop, it was always prone to leaking a lot of water in rough sea conditions.
your dodger was WAY nicer than that PoS one I left on it for you. It's still got my solar panels though. LOL I had a 300 lb Tongan customs guy playing Ukelele and drinking my hooch on the stern until I realized he'd immersed the stern so far that water was coming in around the rudder box in the chop. Good times, had to bail about 6" of water.
@@Sugarsail1 classic 😂 we are actually off to Tonga as soon as we get a good gap in the weather. Not in Little Wing though, just taking our big boat up this year and hoping to sail in tandem with Little Wing to the islands next season 🤞 we want to change her standing rigging and finish a few things off before she’s ready for another offshore adventure…maybe you should come and sail her up with our son 😉
@@Camarasailing So glad you guys saved this boat. I've been sending your video to all my friends here in California. I took a good beating sailing from Tonga to NZ, had a close lightning strike that blew out the radar detector. I noticed that you still had the bracket and antenna for that radar detector on the mast....surprised no one took that off since the detector didn't seem to work anymore.
@@Sugarsail1 yeah her refit isn’t finished yet. Lots of systems to inspect, upgrade and service yet. The first priority was to get her repaired and painted. As our son is still young and paying for things as he earns it’s a slow progress and we got our own boat to maintain…but we will get there. We reckon she will be such a cool boat for the islands and what a wicked first boat for him!
Oh cool! Will have to look the T-Gull up. Quite a few different Newick designs around. We still have a bit of fine tuning to do on her sail set up but we are already impressed with her sailing performance!!
Hello, what a wonderful rebuild. Little Wing is a beauty. Can you remember the material thicknesses of Hull, Wingdeck (bottom and top) and the Bulkheads? I'am thinking of designing a replica. Many thanks, Michel
Thank you. We can’t quite remember but tend to think it was two layers of 6mm and the bulkheads were also 12mm. There is a website about dick newick’s designs and if I remember correctly there were plans to purchase as well. Perhaps Google search and you may find a big step towards building your dream boat 😉 Good luck with the project - exciting!
@@Camarasailing I love how trimarans look hope one day I will own one before I die I'm 62 now my health is not too good but I love the style of those boats. @@Camarasailing Where can one find out more about the passage from San Diego to NZ? I built her 35’ brother FinePitch in strip planked Kalantas but Little Wing appears to be cold moulded. Yep, the grey and white scheme suits Newicks so well. I briefly sailed Rogue Wave and therefore went with the same colour scheme on FP Pre pandemic would I have seen LW moored off Te Kouma - certainly looked like her in yellow? Subscribed with much interest to your son’s channel
@@Kathikas1 Thank you so much! We definitely prefer the new colour to the yellow 😉 I don’t know if there is an a blog or anything like that of the passage from the US to NZ? She had a few owners in NZ and I believe was kept in various places so there’s a good chance you could have seen her somewhere on anchor or on a mooring over the years!
I’d have to measure it. You can stand up if you are short but not if you are tall, hence the fold down bench for taller people you can sit on there while you cook etc.
@@Camarasailing Thanks for reply. Looks like a comfortable enough boat for long passages if you are shorter person. Have she done long passages with a crew?
