    Loved your review. Like the look of your layout. The 59s with sound were available direct from Dapol and I obtained three from them. I originally ordered the DB 59, but cancelled as I had so many Bachmann DB 66s. The next run of 59s with three new liveries will be available with sound from dealers. The sound versions are awesome with twin speakers and suggest you get one on the next run.

      Hi I'll definitely be looking at getting a sound fitted one, I do wish I went for one rather than the smoke fitted but, its one of those things I wanted to try it and apart from that it really is a smart loco, I did pick the dB livery because I didn't have a 66 in that livery only the older ews so I've got a bit of variety at the moment, glad you enjoyed the video and the layout, I'll hopefully get round to doing some more scenery soon, thanks for watching. Tom

    Just a quick check on the smoke - I haven't tried the Dapol one yet but It is easy to create an airlock when you fill these kind of units - I tend to blow down the exhaust to clear this. It may be more controllable to get a syringe for filling - you can also use the empty syringe to blow air through the unit to break any fluid bubbles that may form .
    I have also found that most smoke units need around 15-17v DCC to get the best out of them - I do not know if the instructions mention a minimum (Or maximum) track voltage.
    Cheers
    Chris

      Hi Chris if you skip to 17:35 on the video you can see the smoke unit does pump out quite strong there is alot of smoke coming out of the funnel i think the issue is its like water vapour and you can barely see it, against a dark background you could see it, in an ideal world it could do with being abit blacker, the more ive tried it ive realised the smoke unit is pretty powerful it is more so not being able to see the smoke when its coming out, thanks for watching and for the info. @@northwesttrainsmodels I did see it at the end but was more intrigued by the initial run problems - I would like to see a manufacturer explain the pros and cons of overfilling their units rather than just a cryptic comment in the manual (Well, what do you do if the unit is overfilled? - Manual - I've got nothing)
      Cheers

      Hi Nick glad you enjoyed the review, there was virtually nothing on dapols website about the current batch of 59s and only abit of info on the next batch which does mention sound fitted not coming out till 2024, I'll hopefully get mine sound fitted before then, I'll probably turn of the smoke unit as its abit pointless and not worth the extra money in my opinion, thanks for watching and for the info much appreciated. @@northwesttrainsmodels i know there are plenty of reviews on the sound version direct from the Dapol website as everyone has complained about the absence of a sound function sheet! As for the smoke version, i have it too and yes its very hit and miss! But at least its dcc fitted! I will order a couple from the next batch, heard Jan 2024?? As there will be more current liveries available. Am after the Freightliner Jaffa cake livery or as some say Tango livery, but the idiots have chosen a running number of 59206 the same as our db 59006, how stupid! Means i will have to renumber say the db schenker. Now i did order the one off GBRf 59003 "Yeoman Highlander" available soon. Its limited edition and only available through Gaugemaster stockists as my friend Jim at the Locoshed in Manchester is. Really enjoyedcyour detailed review and yes overall im vedy happy with it. All the best for the NewYear, tske care cheers Nick.

    You'll find out that if you put a Hornby Hook on the locomotive that it'll work better than dapol's hook because there is more space so the train can navigate curves better

    • @northwesttrainsmodels
      @northwesttrainsmodels  Před rokem

      Hi thanks for the advice I'll give it a try, I do find the magnetic couplings do the trick but on the hornby class 60 that still seems to derail bachmann wagons with the hook or magnetic on certain curves, thanks for watching and commenting. Tom

    Hi thanks for the review, waiting for my sound fitted from 'Rainbow railways' in ARC livery. My favourite loco waited along time for it to appear and not much info coming from Dapol as to how it was coming on. I use Kadees so hopefully i wont have the same problems with coupling up to stock. Very informative, smoke seems a bit disappointing hope they can improve it with the settings.

    • @northwesttrainsmodels
      @northwesttrainsmodels  Před rokem

      Hi glad you like the review, I was very disappointed with the smoke to be honest its like fine water vapour rather than black so you can't really see it and I think with the sound fitted the diesel fumes working with a cold start sound setting would be much more effective, the dapol website there was hardly any info on the class 59 seemed very strange, am sure rainbow railways will work there magic on yours I got some drs mk2 resprays a few years ago and they were really smart, I had the arc livery in an old Lima 59, also the kd couplers should be fine I was just also abit annoyed that they had this problem with the class 68 couplers and they haven't tried to rectify it, thanks very much for watching and hope your happy with your 59 when it arrives. Tom

    I wonder if the issue with the smoke is the generator on the loco or the fluid not making much clag?

    • @northwesttrainsmodels
      @northwesttrainsmodels  Před rokem

      If there was someway to make the fluid a blacky colour it would improve it alot, once I got it working its actually quite a powerful smoke flume coming out and in scale size it goes about 30 foot into the air 😂, but because it looks like water vapour it's so hard to see, it would certainly pass the emissions test 🤣, I think it would have been so much more effective if it could work in sink with sound fitted models like a cold start up or moving of it would add to the effect but am guessing there a way of getting to that , to be honest I would still have bought this model but I would have got the sound fitted version direct from dapol and not bothered with the smoke effect,

    Hi Tom, you don’t seem to pleased with your 59 I always use hunt elite couplings had no problems at all my 59 DC run’s lovely cheers Al still waiting for a Dapol chip nothing else fits according to Susannah

    • @northwesttrainsmodels
      @northwesttrainsmodels  Před rokem

      Hi Al i havent had any problems since changing to the hunt couplings either, it was fine with the dapol wagons just didnt seem to like bachmann wagons with standard couplers and i do think the couplers on the dapol diesels hang to low, overall am happy with it, i think the dissapointment first started when it wasnt made clear about dcc sound being only supplied from dapol and the day i picked mine up and realised it wasnt even my supplier went on there website and everything about the 59 was gone of the website apart from a new pre order page for the next batch, but i suppose paying extra for a smoke unit, i was originally excited about as i love the smoke effect on the steam locos but i should have nown it wasnt going to be as good as someone else stated on the comments dapol hadnt shown it of or publicised it much so that was a tell tail they mustnt have been to confident with it, nice idea but not well executed and the main dissapointment for me is you have to open up the loco and turn the smoke unit of manually, otherwise in terms of running quality and detail i cant fault it, it is a lovely powerful loco, glad your happy with yours and ill have to take a look at Susannahs video on it, thanks . Very good review, the smoke unit is an abysmal fail IMO and don't know why Dapol even bothered to be honest.
    Will consider the Freightliner G&W in the second run but DCC Ready only so I can put in my own LokPilot v5 chip, if you can't put in a EM2 inside that loco like the Hattons 66 then I won't bother with sound.
