2024 marks the 3rd year of operation of the super-discount ecommerce platform Temu. Temu is believed to be losing hundreds of millions of dollars per year. How much longer can they afford to sell extreme bargains with free shipping?

Your AI script sucks. Have a dislike.
I'm still waiting for the answer to the question in your video. 👎
The crybaby removed my comment about how his AI script sucks
YOU DO REALISE that free shipping is SUBSIDISED by the western postal services thru an international postal organisation in Switzerland RIGHT? It has been explained by Serpentza and basically all countries that are considered poor have their postal services SUBSIDISED by western postal services "for fairness". China has the largest trade in the world but is DESPERATELY hanging onto this status, to avoid their industries of small products being crippled.
Listen as far as that Ai sponsor thing goes, I write a lot and …yeah, I wouldn’t put too many eggs in that basket lol
I actually used AI to help write a gofundme for when I got scammed in a rental scheme. I told it what happened and it wrote up a nice summary, I edited it to make sure it stayed true to my experience and it really helped! I think AI can be really useful as long as it's used to _augment_ human capabilities, not do all the work for us.
@@o_o8203This is very well said. I agree with you. The fact that AI can save time but cutting out tedious work is helpful. I use it mostly to generate ideas and to proof read my work.
@@o_o8203 I can fully agree with that.
90% of Amazon is just Alibaba/1688 products with higher prices and better logistics.
Pretty much…
Like I found this faerie themed mug on Amazon for $20 and the same exact cup on Temu for $4
I work at the post office and a lot of times we charge the customer postage due because temu shorted the postage.
And I feel you guys get the blame
@@triadwarfare haha 100% but that's part of how they keep prices low
Thank you for your service!
Post office here uses any excuse not to deliver temu packages, the Pakistani postal carrier needs a reality check.

I would never use Temu. I'm half thinking about getting rid of Amazon Prime now that 90% of search results are all no name (all capital letters) Chinese knockoff brands. eBay is now a better marketplace for quality goods than Amazon. It is sad.
Yeah, Amazon is becoming a more expensive ali express with faster shipping
lol ebay is the worst, it’s a flee market
@@OnlineSupportTeam What do you think Temu is?
Temu's absolute trash. But meh, Amazon still have most big brands if you know what you're looking for. The generic versions are usually just cheaper stuff. What I found to be annoying is the insane price markups when stock gets low, which is taken advantage of way too often, pretty sure they just rig most of these just to mark it up all the time. I've seen a 6 pack of juice boxes go for $75 today. I also much rather get brand name items directly from the supplier if available, although warranty and shipping isn't always great or worth it. Does Ebay even sell new stuff? lol
It’s about setting expectations. One knows that the items bought of Temu is off brand & low quality, but cheap. For example I bought a 5 pack ski goggles cost me one good quality goggle, but I got my $ worths out of them. That’s what Temu & other online retailers offer.
I feel like Temu loses its edge after trying to become profitable, then it's just cheap crap that's too expensive with shipping
This guy is COMPLETELY LOST on the shipping. There's an international postal services organisation in Switzerland who subsidies ALL third world shipping from funds from western postal services. China IS IN this category. Serpentza done a video of it. It's SO BADLY researched that he's laughably clueless on how the chinese shipping works.
@@OffGridInvestorI think there is weight restriction.
@@OffGridInvestorit’s really sad, my taxes are essentially subsidizing Chinese c0ncentr@t¡on camps
@@OffGridInvestorit is ludicrous that China claims to be a third world country for postage, yet they boast about their high speed rail and hypersonic missiles. Let them deliver those temu packages with the largest navy in the world.
I think the short answer is, Temu will survive as long as Pinduoduo can and wants to subsidize it. I'm no longer confident that we can understand the motivation of big Chinese conglomerates purely through free market forces.
Their subsidized free shipping is part of the developing nations free shipping program, it cost them nothing we are paying for it!
China: developing nation or developed nation, depending on which is expedient for the CCP at the time
Look a stupid policy europe could have made
@@kphaxx they keep the peasants poor so they can pretend the CCP doesnt have trillions
No. We delivered for temu for them. We work uniuni logistics. When started we get $3 per package but now it’s only $2 on average because they uniuni was losing but I can’t deliver for them at that price and they deduct pay if package get lost or stolen if our proof of deliveries are invalid
That's only if it's normal mail, which they don't use.
The irony that CZcams showed me a TEMU add right before this video is fantastic
The overseas shipping wasnt subsidies the shipment from Temu, but by the subsidies from Chinese govt's agreement from the WTO.
The items that you can find in Temu is basically almost the same that you can find in any Southeast asian website. The proces though is a bit more expensive.
And the quality is the same as those you find in Amazon (the ones that ship from China), but a lot cheaper.
The non-stop Superbowl ads were annoying as hell. All it did was make me 100% certain I'd never be a customer.
Sadly many people will still sign up
It's also Spyware and full of scams. If you value your privacy and / or work with valuable data / technology, you should not touch it with a 10 foot pole.
I wrote my MBA thesis on a platform like Temu in 2017. Just never found a Chinese sponsor. 😢😢😢
More cheap plastic bullshit that breaks after two uses and goes straight into a landfill
Sadly, maybe that's what consumers want. Cheap plastic that breaks just for people to try something new and move on. Most specialized kitchen gadgets anyway are only be going to be used once or twice in its lifetime, so why buy expensive sht?
Not true! It's three times. 😂😂😂
is Dolar General better? you need to set your expectations right dude!
I don't understand this criticism. First, you can buy pretty much anything of any material and it's the same cheap crap that Home Depot or Target charges 10x for from the same factories.
True, but hence the price points. 🤷🏻♂️
As long as there are stupid influencers that promote the junk they sell and stupid buyers who buy from there without knowing what temu truly is then its survival is prolonged.
Temu sells same items as Amazon but at the fraction of the cost
Say less

Yeah, the West really needs to get a handle on this issue. China, as usual, are just taking advantage of the rest of the world.
They don't use the postal service. It's DHL and UPS. I'm a regular shopper on Temu.
Serpentza is anti china propaganda channel
@@seokjin3000why do u shop on Temu lmao
I don't really understand the problem people have with Temu. It's basically dollar store stuff but for slightly cheaper. For example, I got double sided rug tape that Dollar General would charge maybe $5 for, for like $1.38. Don't buy knockoffs and high end stuff, just stick to basics that have huge uncesary markups in the US.
If the goods are that cheap, someone else is paying. Amazon is a scummy enough company with their labor exploitation, lack of concern for fraud and complete disregard for sustainability. But Temu take it up to a new level - their products may be produced by actual slaves.
It's because they're Chinese. Sinophobia's all the rage in the West.
I only learned about Temu and Shein because I kept getting bombarded with annoying ads
Few years ago I asked myself some serious questions about my shopping habits and dropped all China related shopping. Mostly all I ordered from China shops (Wish/Aliexpress and what else there was) was something I really didn't need in the first place or it wasn't what was in the product descriptions. Also with news I hear from China it feels like I'm handing a loaded gun to someone who has threatened on daily basis for years to cause me bodily harm so there is that.
Running a retail business is an extremely inefficient way for some evil regime that's raising fund in order to harm you, if for whatever reason they want to harm you.
@@xx765 yes, if the case was about the retail only. But it ain't.
I couldn't agree more.
Only thing Temu and it's competition is doing with these cheap product filling up the landfill.
You know the shit you find in Temu you also find on Amazon right…
They could probably save a lot of money if they cut down on advertising on social media. Most of the ads are so bad I highly doubt they generate sales.
They definitely generate sales as evidenced by the high revenue TEMU is having.

I’ve purchased things on Temu that were 5 to 6 times the amount on Amazon. I purchased some luggage organizers from Temu and travel weekly for work. Had them for a whole year and they never broke even after heavy use. I paid like 3 bucks for a 6 piece set. Sorry I’m shopping on Temu until the wheels fall off 😂😅
Same here😊
This is not about wether to shop there or not.
@@bogdanlevi Exactly, the real issues are far bigger but people can be so selfish as dumb sometimes.
@@stuartedwards6996 it's not about bigger issues either. If you want to shop there, why not. The video is about the company's financials, which are important to the investor not the customer.
Exactly. It's the same exact shit. People saying "oh quality sucks" are like expecting american made titanium and carbon fiber products for $2. It's absurd.
I've found more expensive items tend to be very overpriced whilst claiming to be discounted. As with anything you have to shop around to get the best deals.
There are 2 categories of goods they sell; the cheap stuff where it's almost meant for few time uses only and/or disposal goods, then there are goods where it's comparatively expensive as you were to buy from places like Amazon. The cheap good are concentrated in small plastic goods, the higher priced item tend to be bigger obviously and quality isn't bad at all.
I bought angle grinder from China for 15$ yesterday. And handheld drill with 2 batteries for 40$ before
Buying anything that is capable of setting itself on fire seems like a risky pick.
Just only charge that in the middle of a concrete pad with no combustible material around it.
got angle grinder for $10 from harbor freight (from china of course).
@@alexholker1309 that handheld drill from Onevan is working just fine for a year. IMO it's necessary to disassemble, to oil the reductor, check inside, as opposed to just pick up and work, but the price difference makes it worth it
@@alexholker1309 besides, with quality of brand tools we get nowadays, it's questionable
Clicked on the video and it was a temu commercial that greeted me first 😂😂😂
I’m not sure they’re losing as much on shipping as they claim. In the end it’s subsidized by American tax dollars. I guess the CCV is also subsidizing the shipping too but I haven’t checked on that.
Not just American Tax dollars, euros, Canadian dollar, Australian dollar, sterling, et al.
China is one of our largest US Bond holders if that matters.
No we delivered for temu because as DPS company under uniuni logistics. They don’t get subsidies. Maybe in the past and for small packages but not anymore. We got $3 before per package then it got reduced to $2. Then all drivers quit due to lower pay.
@@joefer53602nd highest and dropping every year, they will prob have around half of there peak holdings in 2025. At there highest they held around 17% of total federal debt but are around 9% now with domestic ownership of the debt still around 75%, largest atm is Japan at 18%.
Yes. Serpentza has a whole video on it as other channels do. It's so INCREDIBLY BADLY researched to make a whole video on how they're going broke over shipping without even KNOWING HOW their stuff, including stuff on ebay ALL HAS free shipping. A guy I knew in upstate NY was saying that the cost of a mini camping stove with free shipping from china was cheaper than JUST THE SHIPPING if he bought it online from California.
Got a temu Xmas ad right before this 😂
Imagine seeing ads.
In February
Temu spent money to advertise to me. Good for them! There is no chance that I would ever get something from them.
I used Aliexpress once. Got a high powered quantum board LED for a little over $300 all in. The "made in the USA" version with all the same components would have been over $800, but would have allegedly had a "lifetime warranty" but I wanted to run a head to head between an old school HPS rig vs a new QB, so I wasn't super concerned about longevity. 4 years later, it's still running 12 hours per day.
Temu is a Chinese dollar store and I will never buy anything from them specifically because of their marketing campaign. "Shop like a billionaire" huh? Anyone ever see Bill or Melinda Gates buying shampoo at Dollar General?
Temu and similar, combined with the "instant gratification" and short time to landfill... Are some of the worst things to happen with regard to the sustainability of consumer behavior
Honestly, I'm wooting for Temu. Amazon has been sucking for a while now, they need some serious competition to whip them back in shape.
If you haven't actually shopped on Temu, you can't credibly sneer about the stuff that's sold on Temu.
The price of goods can be related to it's quality and with extra discount on it's basically close to free.
Unlike the other commenters, I'll happily buy from temu as long as it makes sense for me. I don't need everything with next day delivery and will gladly save money on stuff that I would have bought elsewhere anyways
genuinely i only use temu because of these type of videos, i always thought it was a scam website lol but i buy like 2 orders a month its fun, you can get like 20 things for £12
@@zKseryTemu will always work for me as the prices you can't beat else where. So Temu will always work, until it won't. Will continue using Temu until it don't look like I'm saving any money buying from Temu.

Things like kitchen scissors for £1. Yoga / pressure balls for £1
Boxing training equipment for £1
Fruity/ veg peelers 4 for £1
100 hair bands for £1
Light up dog collar for £1 (would cost 15 on amazon)
20 little zip up bags for miscellaneous sorting for 80 pence
It's fun too to spend £13 and get a package with 20+ items a week later.
Even a pair of slider slippers was only £1 , a torch to go wit my other £100 torch for only £2.
I even bought some wireless earphones for literally £2 so I don't always have to wear my £400 beats headphones and I've already spent £700+ on AirPods replacing them over the years and guess what AirPods aren't 60x better than these cheap earphones and if it does break idgaf it cost £2. The £200 AirPods still break so it's not like you always get better when you spend more.
Trust me check it out, put stuff in your basket and they give you discounts anyways.
I've actually gotten a bunch of kitchen equipment for 1/5 the price it costs in shops / amazon.
For example those kitchen scissors are 10/10 they would've cost £7-12 in a shop and were £1.20 on temu I even use it for reselling
Takes close to a month to receive any product. Most of the products are cheep and break. Not all products are low cost so you have to be cautious.
At some point hopefully people will clue in and realize that 90% of the stuff ordered online is utter crap.
With popular channels like Why Files having no qualms or shame being sponsored by Temu, they may hold on more than we expect.
One of the craziest things they do is no return refunds. Take a guess how this is respected by the public. Bad time to be a online retailered.
I know someone who returned a lot to abuse this and they no longer get the no return option. So it's likely automated to disable that perk if it looks like you're abusing it.
@@altkev well when you say return, you mean a traditional return. You hand back your purchase and get money back? Or this no return refund? Like amazon and Walmart will shut dudes down returning stuff a ton, used for a bit then returning etc. They at least possibly get something back, could refurbish, resell, send back to the mfg to absorb, or bulk returns resale/auction. The temu things just a loss, no product back, plus the shipping cost.

The answer to your question: As long as the CCP wants it to
Can you make a video on Chinese live selling and how the US hasn’t really adopted it? I would love to hear your take on that
As a temu customer, it's obvious that temu can't continue with the low prices but I'll continue to shop with them because I don't want to buy the exact same products at 2-3x markup (sometimes up to 10x depending on the wholesale price) from Amazon or ebay. I literally see temu items for sale at local shops for the same markup! I wouldn't be shopping on temu if the cost of living & economy weren't what they are 🤷🏽
You do know that's what caused the economy to tank at first right? Walmart and Amazon finishing off all local businesses to save a few dollars which wound up costing us way more
@@backlogbuddies I mean those local stores aren't going to come back from the dead, all things are from china now, it depends on who you want as the middleman and how much of a cut you want to give to walmart/amazon

IMHO This doesn't cover the most important aspect of this platform: That it often, maybe in most cases, sells goods not approved for any western markets. Often dangerous (electrical appliences) with fire or electrical shock hazards, or good containing toxic or other harmful substances, especially toys, clothes and any goods that come into contact with human skin. Majority of goods on Chinese market have issues, many of them are outright dangerous. And that is, if you even get the product you've purchased, since fake products and conning practices is very common. Just do your research..

With child labour you can have some serious low prices...
Good vid. I hate Temu but I like money so calls on PDD ahead of earnings (Q4 come out on March 13th 2024). They beat every quarter last year, no reason they won't do so again and the guidance should be positive. The only thing that could screw their business model is if the US customs changes it's order value minimum rule. But that is a big policy change and I doubt they would do it this year.
There's nothing I need or want that Temu sells. End discussion.
