Everyone knows Bob Marley but Jimmy Cliff is just as important. Wonderful voice. The soundtrack to The Harder They Come is amazing.
His songs have deep meaning...
Very much so.
Jimmy cliff has one of the greatest reggae albums ever made “Power and Glory” that whole album is legendary from the first track to the last
I saw him in concert in the 70s..he was great.
So well said!!!
The iconic moment of the movie *Harder They Come* starring *Jimmy Cliff* was when he was walking through rich neighborhoods looking for work and no one would hire him to cut their grass, and lawns etc... This part today brings onions tears😭 down my face each time..... *Jimmy Cliff* legendary👍
One of the greatest songs of all-time!!! It's been covered by so many artists such as Joe Cocker, UB40, Linda Ronstadt, Harry Nilsson, Cher, and Annie Lennox (to name a few).
This is my favorite Jimmy Cliff song!
Check out "The harder they come" by Jimmy cliff. He's a legend!

Jimmy Cliff OG Raggae artist
This song always gives me hope for the future. Beautiful song and voice.Thank you for reacting. And Jimmy made a great version of Cat Stevens' Wild World. Also, please try his "You can get it you really want", which DOES have a rocksteady beat. Another great song with a similar style, ska, is Bob and Marcia singing "Young gifted and black". Also, UB40 did a great version of "Many Rivers To Cross". Ali Campbells voice suits the song so well. (1983 version)
My Favorite Reggae artist.
This one was powerful, right to your guts. The first word that came to my mind when it started was "churchy." It feels like soul to me, but with a certain Caribbean tinge to it. Really good stuff.
Jimmy has a catalogue of songs the equal to anyone....................................anyone.
The part in this song where the backup singers finally come in always gets me. Wow! Yeah, this song evokes gospel and soul more than reggae. I rank it with "Bridge Over Troubled Water" in that regard. Other tunes from Jimmy Cliff to check out are "The Harder They Come," "You Can Get It If You Really Want," "Vietnam," and his version of "I Can See Clearly Now." When it comes to "roots" reggae, you've got to listen to Toots & The Maytals -- "Pressure Drop," "Sweet and Dandy," "Funky Kingston," "Monkey Man," "Got To Be There" among others.
One of my favorite tracks of all time. You should check out anything from 'The harder they come' album.
His voice calls to my soul.
The movie is INCREDIBLE.
MUST. SEE!!!!!!!!!!! The harder they come😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
I saw it in santa cruz, ca 1977 or 8 in the movie theater and that was all she wrote!!!!!!!! Reggae forever!!!!!!!!
Over the years I've seen live jimmy cliff, toots and the maytals, alpha blondy (he was not in this movie...popular artist from ivory coast). 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
If you listen to alpha blondy, his song "Jerusalem" from his album (not a live show) is sooooooo so so beautiful.
Sitting in Limbo and The Harder The Come are also great songs by him
Particularly Sitting in Limbo.......................it moves me.
Here in the UK Jimmy Cliff is now revered as a true great. Funny that a song about failure can help make someone into a legend..
"The Harder They Come" was a movie too. In Cambridge Massachusetts Orson Wells Theater it played for a least 10 years. 1st Reggae I ever heard.
Richard Martin
I remember that well!...saw it many times there🙂
Saw it for the first time at midnight showings at the old Elgin theater in NYC. Hawkers selling joints in the balcony, USA!
Jimmy Cliff was a favorite of John F. Kennedy, Jr. This song was played at his memorial service. Very appropriate, that is when I first discovered it.
Great pick.Oh man, India. You're picking a lot of my favorites. This is another album I played over and over. I hope you'll play other songs of Jimmy Cliff too.
Jimmy Cliff- Vietnam An important protest song.
Please to Jimmy Cliff, Take a good look. Take a good look the greatest Jimmy Cliff song
I love this song. You should also check out the title song (also by Jimmy Cliff) from the movie this is from "The Harder They Come". For that matter, the whole soundtrack, which I still own on the original vinyl, is awesome.
Jimmy Cliff helped pave the way for a lot of Jamaican artists like Bob Marley,Peter Tosh,Third World,Shaggy,Shabba Ranks and Sean Paul among others.
LOVE Jimmy Cliff. You should see the movie The Harder They Come!
Yeah Jimmy is another of the Reggae greats!!! Peter Tosh is another as well. Love this version.
Shelter of your love is another great Jimmy Cliff tune
Jimmy Cliff - Icon.
Many Rivers to Cross - Iconic. Vibration levels - Extremely High.
I saw Jimmy in the seventies and he had such an impact on me. I got to get up close to his stage, no struggle, everyone was so respectful and adoring but not violent towards each other or semi violent the way seventies and early eighties rock crowds could sometimes be, maybe the amphetamines, but jimmy was so composed and self contained and everyone just coordinated around this, so I was able to get up close, me who tended to be self conscious and defensive, but the music drew the secrets out..
That is the highest tenor voice I've ever heard. Wow!
This song makes me cry - but for all the best reasons
Jimmy Cliff on Jools Holland live was great.
Best music.....by Jimmy Cliff
Salut Jimmy...grew up listening to him and Black Uhuru, Burning Spear, Third World, Steel Pulse and of course Bob, but I always loved this song and also UB40's version, outstanding.
Love this ❤
Jimmy Cliff - No justice classic 👌
The harder they come is brilliant.
Hi India, I subscribed about a week ago. I wanted to be sure this was the same song, and it is. There is a young Welsh girl that has done a partial cover because she did it on The Voice Kids U.K. and they have time constraints. Her name is Gracie-Jayne Fitzgerald. She was twelve when she sang this. She had only been singing for 17 months, by this I mean she has sung in her school talent show, she has entered a few competitions, but before that just around the house stuff. Anyway, it is amazing to hear her sing this song. She also does something near the end of the song that before being on this show she had no idea she could do. After listening to this(Jimmy's) version, I thought it might be fun to listen to Gracie's version. I hope you decide to react to it, Jessie J is one of the coaches and she has developed an honest respect for Gracie, even to go as far as saying Gracie is, "going to be a force to be reckoned with". Thank you so much for your reactions.
Jimmy Cliff is The Best!!!
Love ya for this one!!!
PLZ MORE: Jimmy Cliff - Bongo Man, Bob Marley - no woman no cry, redemption song

I grew up fan of Jimmy Cliff and sound of his words and music is in power of how he deliver with so much to ear as word flow as, many rivers one may cross in their life time to endless heaven which wait on soul to moment of peace. God Bless those who think they have all, only to find all is not all without faith.

Wow! Impressive! Reggae and it's history is my thing. Missing Belize. Jimmy Cliff and his music is so dear to me.
I have fond memories of this song. It was played at my dads funeral!
UB40 did a version of this too. It's how I know this beauty of a song.
I so love this man and the music this song has always been my song when i need a reason to keep pushing forward
For Black people in Britain back in the day (1970's) this song served as a metaphor for living in Britain, with the racialism, alienation and abuse : "No Blacks, No Dogs and No Irish." hanging on the Doors from Landlords.
The king of lovers rock reggae, Gregory Isaacs. "My only lover"
When the sisters kick in 💕💕
Beautiful song by Jimmy.
Hoping you can play another Jamaican born artist, Grace Jones. A great performance artist, diva and fashionista. Totally different vibe. Please react to

love Jimmy Cliff!!! great selection
UB40 done a cover in UK, 🎶🎸🎶🎶☀️🏴
Barbara Jones (Lewis) was a backup singer for Jimmy Cliff, and an excellent singer in her own right - RIP. Her version of Midnight Blue is still my favorite. Some of her work is here on YT.
Thank you India for taking us on your journey through the music.
When I was in high school there was a a movie theater that played "The Harder They Come" the movie every Friday night at midnight. We went for about 6 months. Never missed a show. Jimmy Cliff always brings back the great memories from that time. If you haven't seen it, try to. It is hilarious and the fantastic music is a character in the movie. "Many Rivers To Cross" was also covered by Annie Lennox who is simply amazing. @India Reacts, please check out that cover.
My woman left me, she didn't say why......That is Jimmy
Jimmy Cliff is great! Try The Melodians, Rivers of Babylon
One of the Best. Great song
Price of peace is beautiful, Jimmy cliff. The whole unlimited album is great.
Great song for sure.
I like the UB40 version alot also.
This was the original version. The best known version was done by UB40 (a band you should check out) and was featured on their legendary "Labour Of Love" album of 1983 and was one of the singles off that album.
Trailblazers seldom get the fame, he paved the road for all the Jamaican artists we have loved in the UK.
Hi! Love your reaction to this! A year later, have you done Jimmy Cliff's Hypocrites? The Best!
While this is a song about a personal struggle, through the years, I've heard it as a song for refuges-- crossing rivers, leaving home, extreme loss-------
Great song! Loved what you said!
The previous commenters suggested a lot of good songs by Cliff and others. I would recommend hearing his live version of the Jamaican national anthem at the World Cup.
What a beautiful woman
Ken Boothe - Be Thankful
Great song. Love the UB40 version too ❤️

Other noteworthy songs from the soundtrack include You Can Get It If You Really Want by Jimmy Cliff, Draw Your Brakes by Scotty, Rivers of Babylon by The Melodians, Johnny Too Bads by The Slickers and Pressure Drop by The Maytals. Let's face it: This is a great soundtrack.

Helloween - March Of Time (OFFICIAL LIVE VIDEO)
Check out Jimmy Cliff “John Crow”. It from the movie Marked for Death. Great song. It’ll put you in the zone....
Jimmy Cliff/ Bob Marley are both magnificent. Please India check out U-Roy, the Jamaican legend that many say is the originator of rpa and hip hop [Jamaica style]. Song you'd want to check out is called Natty Rebel. It's amazing. The CZcams version that is 4 minutes & 13 seconds is the best. Blow your mind beautiful music. If you can't dance to that one, you're not alive!
Request: React to "Into the Mystic" by Van Morrison. That is all.
Oh, we definitely need Van the Man here. You're right.
Absolutely van the man into the mystic
Oh absolutely!!!! 😁
there is a school of thought, that says Jimmy Cliff is the coolest person in the world, and labi siffre is the most emotional.
