BABYMETAL's manager knew that they had to be the best at dancing, singing, and have the best band behind them to make sure people took them seriously and not just as some type of gimmick or comedy band who were caricatures of musicians in any way.
This was the exact same approach that Weird Al Yankovic took when he started out. He knew that he was doing parodies and that they would get some traction, but wouldn't necessarily be taken serious if he just had some guys who knew how to play instruments behind him. He needed THE BEST possible musicians and he sought them out and got them. Yes, he is known for being comedic, but his songs and reputation as a musician are legendary and new musicians say they know they made it when he parodies their stuff.
That's why BABYMETAL is on point with everything, including production. They are serious performers who want their fans to have the best possible experience and to be taken seriously by the music community at-large. There are still some people who will say they suck, Su doesn't have a good voice, and other things that are completely false and hateful, just because they aren't willing to open themselves up to new things and think all metal music HAS TO BE the way it was 40 years ago: completely angst-ridden and no fun.
However, the girls have been accepted in the metal community and in music in general because they ARE that good! They are the group that started this metal renaissance in Japan. Before them, metal performances were very sparsely attended, usually in very small clubs or "underground" venues not many people knew of or went to. Now, because of BABYMETAL, you have so many metal groups coming out of Japan, especially female metal groups. It's amazing and because they ran with it when they had the chance. They've performed with some of the biggest names in metal and music, opening for the likes of Korn, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Lady Gaga. They've collaborated with Tom Morello, Bring Me The Horizon, of course ECB most recently, DragonForce, and so many others. Corey Taylor of Slipknot, Rob Zombie, the guys in Metallica, etc. have all embraced them because they know talent when they see it. They have seen the commitment the girls put into everything they do.
It's amazing how far they've come, yet if you mention them to most people in the U.S. you will still get "who?" as a response, showing how far they can still go!

Great reaction - so many comments, you must have been told all about this performance (last song of a 90 minute concert, same energy and quality start to finish, over 20k people, Su 17, Yui and Moa still only 15, who was playing in the Kami Band that night etc etc).
Interesting fact, it was 2 years after BABYMETAL started that the Kami Band made their first appearance, it was another 18 months after that (in March 2014) when they became their full time support for all live shows.
The girls had to prove themselves and they had to find an audience nobody knew or even believed would exist for what they were doing before they got the funding for a live band, so yes the live band has legitimised what they do, but BABYMETAL is the girls - they put in the hard work and passion to make it all happen in the first place.
Good luck getting tickets to see them in Oklahoma - if you can go you will have the very best time.
'Road of Resistance' is a very positive song, it isn't the usual "resist the machine or the system etc" that we might expect from the title. It is about forging your own road even where a road doesn't already exist, not necessarily going the easy way or following the path already made by somebody else, so if the way you want to go has never been trodden you may have to get past the resistance of the undergrowth, obstacles, hurdles and things blocking your way etc to find your own way.
It could easily be used to describe BABYMETAL's own story - they could have followed the well trodden path of J-Pop and been very successful, but they chose to go with Metal ... but again they didn't just follow the same old format of every other metal band, they have done it their own way and it hasn't always been an easy route to follow.
Herman Li and Sam Totman from the British power/speed metal band DragonForce did the guitar arrangements for this song (it is the only one they were involved in) and recorded the guitars for the album version.

Definitely one of the best ever. That crowd control and stage presence reminded me on another group and it is so funny to me because today I found out that Stacy reacted to them last week - Queen at Live Aid and single song "Somebody to Love" live in Montreal.
And to be compared to these performances should be seen as a huge huge compliment.

First off, thanks for making these reaction videos!
Secondly, this live performance is, IMO, one of the best live musical performances of all time. Let me explain...
The premise of this song; this was Babymetal's "victory anthem". It was their celebration of becoming a full fledged musical group, no longer a sub-group under the shadow of a larger entity. They accomplished this in spite of a lot of doubters and negative comments that they had to endure in their early days. When they spike the flags at the beginning, it symbolizes a triumphant combatant declaring victory by planting their flag.
The background and symbolism aside, here are a few more reasons this performance demands so much respect.
    I. Energy, you commented on it because it is so clear. However, what is not immediately known is that this was the final song of a 16 song setlist and they had been going nonstop like this for over 90 minutes. Not only the girls, but the band too. Imagine that drummer's fatigue!
II. Command of the crowd. Sumetal has been compared to Freddy Mercury in her ability to direct 25,000+ people with simple hand motions. BUT, in this performance she was just barely SEVENTEEN years old (Yui and Moa were only 15). To have this much charisma, poise, and professionalism, not to mention pure talent at such a young age!
    Speaking of the crowd...
III. Possibly the most striking part of this entire performance is that this was only the THIRD time this song was performed live in front of a crowd! They mad it look like they had done this performance live 100 times! The first performance of this song was a few months prior in ENGLAND (there is a whole backstory/lore to that) and the crowd was like 4,000 people (like the small venues in the US you were talking about). The second time this song was performed was in Japan, but it was more or less a private show with 3,000 or so "Babymetal Apocalypse" members there.
The Satima Super Arena (where this video was recorded) has a max capacity of over 36,000 and every report indicates that there were over 22,000 in the main arena that night (SSA is the third largest indoor arena in the world). Here is the mind bending part of all of this. How did 20k+ people act like they had heard the song live dozens of times??? It is very easy to surmise that most of the crowd heard the song for the first time that night. The album that this song first appeared on would not be released for more than a year after this show. The song was not on iTiunes yet, it was 2015, so no fancams on CZcams or Instagram. The only official way to have gotten your hands on this song prior to this show was, if you bought a limited edition of a Live album (Live at Budokan: Red Night) you got a card with a code that allowed you to download this song. However, that live album came out just THREE days before this show.
I said all of that to drive home why this performance is so impactful to me.
A 17 yr old with two 15 yr olds, who many in the music world dismissed as a gimmick side act, are who you saw here controlling that crowd, even at the end of a 90+ minute performance, and they were leading them through a song that, I believe, most in attendance had no way of hearing before that night.
    It is truly something special!

This was a really joyous, enthusiastic, thoughtful reaction. You really get what an effort goes into a Babymetal performance. Singing, choreography, intruments, pyro, lighting all down to the second. I personally really appreciate when a reactor like yourself is getting the whole picture like that.
Su has said that to this day this remains perhaps her favorite vocal performance. Believe me when I tell you that Babymetal fans completely appreciate the incredible instrumentals from the original Kami Band here and their current touring band Kami Band West (both iterations with incredible drummers, beasts really).
Moa the girl predominately on the left was asked once what her fitness routine was. She said, "Being in Babymetal IS my fitness routine." Kinda says it all. Oh in this performance Su was 17 and Yui and Moa were both 15.

Babymetal only do these massive spectaculars in Japan. If you want to see them perform in their element, you have to make the trip to Japan to see them on home turf. Experiencing Babymetal in Japan in front of the home crowd who all know exactly what to do and know all the songs is the best way to see them. I've been to Japan four times to see them live, and it's been amazing each and every time.
This performance was at "Legend 2015 - The New Year's Fox Festival" in January 2015, so Su would have been 17, and Yui and Moa would have been 15. The concert was at Saitama Super Arena with a crowd of 20,000 people.
Not sure if it has been mentioned yet, but the Kami Band aren't considered to be part of Babymetal. Only the three young ladies up front are Babymetal. The Kami Band are session musicians that only play with Babymetal at live shows; they don't play on the albums. They are all amazing musicians, and you are right that they definitely contributed to Babymetal gaining legitimacy in the west, and the fans love them almost as much as we love Babymetal. The fans are often frustrated that the Kami Band are constantly put in the background, but Kobametal has, by his actions, made it very clear that he wants all attention to be on the girls and not on the band.

I'm fairly new to babymetal as well. About a year ago I saw the MV for "Gimme Chocolate". After the initial WTF moment, I was sold. It was brilliant. Then down the foxhole I went. Yes, the Kami band is made up of brilliant musicians and they do get the occasional spotlight. I saw BM in Los Angeles last year at a 6000 seat hall and, while not having the elaborate staging seen in the Japanese concerts, it was still an amazing show. Recommended.

It true that show out of Japan aren't exaclty the same. Not the same, they do not have the same budget (of course) but the spirit is still there and they ALWAYS gives their all in every performance. That's That's what makes them so special and loved.

I used a presale code and was able to snag VIP first entry tickets to Babymetal's show in Cincinnati. Remember the heart-shaped sunglasses Moa wears for a moment in the "RATATATA" video? I have a pair of those and I'm going to throw them on when they play that song. Who knows, maybe she'll notice and -take me back to Japan with her- borrow the sunglasses for the song. I'm also eager to see who the opening act will be. Babymetal is the third of three concerts I have left to go this year with Lindsey Stirling happening in August (now _that's_ who I want to see collab with Babymetal) and then KMFDM is coming to Columbus in October.

If you thought this was great. You should see when they opened with this song at Tokyo Dome - Red Night. A circular stage and another stage on top, about 100-ft above. Along with three catwalk coming out, shaped like coffins. Then during the Chant, the late guitarist Mikio Fujioka (not in the video) played the Chant with harmonics while the crowd replied chanting back. The use of the Kami band did definitely help with the popularity of Babymetal, especially overseas. Unfortunately the management and the J-pop Factory that runs Babymetal didn't think as much. At the end of 2017, (which were the first shows without Yui "glove right hand" and the last with Mikio) they took away solo intros address them in Black in 2019 they put mask on them to kind of hide their identities. Then they started using American players from the Star Wars band - Galactic Empire and a drummer who changes bands more than he changes underwear. The East Kamis would come back and play up until January 2023. Where in the released DVD, there is not one direct shot of a band member.. Since then it's been the West Kami band, who are not a bad band, but they're definitely not as tight as the original East Kami band. Shows now are not the same.

What I love about this performance is the professionalism at such a young age. And they've never strayed away from it. I mean I'm the same age as Su-metal and there's no way I'd ever think of getting on stage to a crowd that big when I was at the age of 15 😂
Their crowd control is insane. To have the chanting going to fast (8:57) only to have Su-chan correct them and bring them back on tempo for the band to come back in on.
They work so damn hard on everything and metal "gatekeepers" love to ignore that because at face value all they see is 3 cute girls dancing to metal and think it's a gimmick. It's no gimmick if they've been doing this for close to 15 years now and are a massive global phenomenon.

The crowd involvement (circle pit, call & response, chant etc.) occurs wherever they go on this planet. This anthemic song was played in almost every show (either in their headline or in huge festival) The audience reaction is always similar to it in this video. You said the audience was organized. I believe we are tamed and trained by the young girls 🤣.
In your video, Su shouted some words at 10:24 meaning "Bring them on!". Fans analyzed that the provocative shout was thrown at people who had been ignoring, underrating, mocking, hating and even trying to discredit BABYMETAL. That shout may have been necessary in 2015 but not any longer. She has shouted it occasionally since then and when she does, it is with her friendly smile and matured mild voice that I love 😄

Perfect response (Jan 10 2015) to the metal gatekeepers who dismissed their 2014 feats (Sonisphere UK, viral 'Gimme Choco' MV) as gimmicky. This particular performance would also earn BM a lot of defenders among vet rock musicians, & left many jaded CZcams reactors in tears during the second half of last decade.
Crazier thing is RoR itself wasn't even officially released yet at that time. But the 20,000 crowd somehow worked out how to participate en masse after watching fancams of its live debut (under the provisional song title 'The One'; CZcams has the clip) in London about two months earlier, & the audio track dropping as a limited downloadable bonus a few days before the Saitama gig.
The concert itself ('Legend 2015'), with RoR as the finale, was basically lightning in a bottle. BM had switched to a live band (the brilliant Kami Band East) in mid-2013, started playing bigger gigs (1k-2k) instead of showcases (300-700), culminating in a sold-out 10,000 show at the start of 2014. They then audaciously took on the big bad world of heavy metal overseas (50k at Sonisphere UK, 40k at HeavyMTL Canada, 20k during the Lady Gaga tour), met with harsh blowback (the BM girls were only 15-17 years old) while diligently honing their stagecraft, & finally countered with their stunning homecoming gig at Saitama.
For many netizens, this was the first glimpse of the optimal 'Team Babymetal' live spectacle: Su's vocals & uncharted showmanship; Moa/Yui exhilaratingly working the crowd; the BM trio's energy & stamina; the Kamis' dazzling musicianship; Mikikometal's vibrant choreography; Kobametal & his team's musical explorations (RoR was the bridge between the more juvenile-themed debut album & the kawaii metal-consolidating second album); Hidefumi Usami's live sound engineering; along most crucially with (& something overseas gigs like even Sonisphere UK didn't have): tens of thousands of Japanese attendees actively involving in the many call-&-response, crowd-participation parts.
The only thing lacking was English subtitles, since RoR's lyrics (& most of BM's repertoire) are very positive & uplifting. Check out the Budokan 2021 or PIA Arena 2023 versions to understand what the song is about.
Best thing is BM kept getting better, literally gig after gig, during this classic era (2014-2016). Look up the full 7-song daytime set at 'MetRock 2015' on Dailymotion, which took place a few months after this Saitama gig, for how manical they were (BM, Kamis, crowd).
As for truly special, jawdropping BM highlights, I recommend 'Moabanger 2019' (the earlier & later 'Headbanger' birthday versions with Su, Yui & Momo are also impressive, but Moa's take is an absolute delight) or 'Monochrome 2023' (all 3 versions, namely lyric video, First Take piano take, & PIA Arena live, each deeply resonating in its own way) next.

And if she orders Sing, they will do it as good as they can and as loud as they can. No. Under the current conditions it is pretty expensive. I am going to the Hollywood, FL show for my second live experience. I am totally with you about wanting to learn the choreography, if only for their song "Headbanger". I love to dance, and have held a little grudge ever since school dances, and then through adulthood, when girls/women did not consider rock music danceable! Upon discovery, Babymetal reminded me that there is so much fun to be had in the rock realm!

With the recent metal bands i have listened to and listening to BABYMETAL for a while, i like the critisism and speaking of hardships in life and very heavy focused sound of some western bands.
But the positivity of BABYMETAL songs has helped me to get through my issues more than any metal songs that i really identified with the lyrics, and thats without even understanding BABMYMETAL lyrics themselves (only after looking at the translation).
The positivity with metal imo is one of the reasons ppl have love/hate issues with BABYMETAL, metal should be more positive, its nice to confront a problem but even more to know how to move on and overcome it.
For some ppl Metal is still about hate, critisism, rebelion, anti-___, we need some more positivity in life, i mean in metal lol :)
Also the old kami band had a tone i love more than the western (both slap hard but i like the former better).

Nice reaction! The most impressive performance of this song, IMHO. Su-Metal does the "Split!" just in case, nowadays. Most of the time the Wall of Death is ready to go already! And even if it´s a small venue, the Wall of Death is HUGE 😄You said "squeeze their cheeks"? You had Yuimetal in mind while saying this, right? 🤣 Yep, that stage and the crowd were breathtaking! Everybody wants to see such a concert (me too!), I know. BUT... if you get to the front rows, you´ll get something, the Japanese crowd won´t ever get... possibly personal interaction! I still dream about being at a concert in Japan, but I saw them last year in Cologne, Germany, 4k people venue... it was AMAZING! No Hedoban battle with Moametal for me, but they were just a few meters away! It feels unreal for the first few minutes, but they are damn real and they are damn amazing! Get your ticket ASAP! 😉
P.S.: Su-Metal was still 17 years old at that performance, Yuimetal and Moametal were still 15.

"Road OF Resistance", not Road TO Resistance. A common mistake and for two reasons: first, people tend to understand that roads lead TO somewhere so they subconsciously substitute the preposition "of" with the preposition "to", and they do that for the second reason: they are reading what they want it to say, not what it does say - in short, they're not paying attention. 😁 But you did get it right the second time, and the thumbnail title is spot on! 👍

one thing i have to say is that The Band behind them The Kami Band is a group of session Musicians, they are absolutley amazing at what they do! there are now 2 different bands the Eastern and Western Kamis (the Western is newer and has done most of the touring with them recently)
if you want some good songs to show off the Kamis
Catch me if you Can (With Kami Intro)
Rondo of Nightmare with mischifs of metal gods intro

Nice reaction to the incredible musical experience know as BabyMetal. You should definitely go to see them in Oklahoma City. I have seen them three times, including at Fox Fest 2024 in Japan last month, where they first performed “Ratatata” live with Nico & Kevin, and I am going to see them in Albuquerque on November 30. They are always a joy to behold. While the venues they play in the states are not as grand as the ones in Japan, you will still experience their talent and energy; and the quality of their performance is the same. They give their all at every show for every crowd, large or small. At this 2015 performance in the Saitama Super Arena, Suzuka had just turned 17, while Moa and Yui were 15½. I hope you will continue with your BabyMetal reaction journey. To see them attack & conquer 65K metalheads at a metal festival in the UK, you should definitely react to “Ijime, Dame, Zettai, Live at Sonisphere 2014.” For a more recent example of BabyMetal magic, check out “Monochrome (PIA Arena 2023 Live).”
