      Canon Dooku is better than Legends dooku

    • @austinkersey2445
      @austinkersey2445 Před měsícem +2

      @@C-3POsolosinvci They have their merits. Both have sympathetic goals and aspirations, and both saw the corruption of the Republic and the stagnation of the Jedi Order. The difference is that Legends Dooku was basically a high-functioning psychopath whose only meaningful connections were Yoda and Qui-Gon, and sought to undermine the Sith after his apprentice's demise. Unfortunately for him, Sidious knew of his plans, influenced him, and corrupted him into becoming a monster. Canon Dooku, on the other hand, was a more well-adjusted person and remained more grounded as a person due to his more numerous support network. Until the moment where he just immediately fell off the deep end. They also set up Dooku's darkness earlier with Canon Dooku with his interest in the holocrons and his obsession with the Sith.
      That said, I generally prefer Legends Dooku over Canon, primarily because the Clone Wars (2008) mischaracterizes him (as it does with most of its established characters) and because the only meaningful additions they have made were the "Dooku: Jedi Lost" book and the "Tales of the Jedi" show. The book was definitely good, and the show was alright, but he just doesn't have enough new material to sway me.
      P.S. A major part of why I like Dooku in Legends more is his presence in the "Republic" comic series (which is what the 2008 cartoon tried to be) where he does make the Separatists seem appealing by actually making systems better with greater living conditions and helping the people, which leads into another big reason I like Dooku in this series. His relationship and conflict with Quinlan Vos, who is undoubtedly way fucking better in Legends. The less said of "Dark Disciple" and its poor treatment of Ventress, the better. I mean, Dave Filoni and co. never knew how to write Ventress, but that book was criminal.

    Yes, Sidious did see Qui-Gon as an obstacle to turning Anakin to the dark side due to the fact he would've taken the role of a father figure and mentor who truly could've understood and guided him. But imo the reason he *feared* him is because he was probably the only being in the galaxy that could've seen through his plans and wouldn't have fallen for it like every other jedi and the entire Republic did. He indeed wasn't afraid of Qui-Gon's skill with a lightsaber, yet he was afraid that he would be the one threat that could have foiled his plans. He feared the combination of his intelligence, independent-mindedness, stubbornness and most of all, his profound connection, understanding and trust in the Force.

    42:40 The video simplifies what happened. The interaction is from the Tarkin novel, one of the best pieces of Disney Canon currently (which makes sense since the guy who wrote it also wrote Plagueis' backstory in the Plagueis novel). Tarkin understood that the Separatist Crisis isn't what it seemed and knew that someone was controlling things behind the scenes.
    The book says that Dooku approached Tarkin multiple times, the last time being very shortly before he went to Geonosis and thus the beginning of the war. Tarkin voices his opinion to Dooku after Dooku's sales pitch to him, after which Dooku all but confirms that Tarkin's suspicion was correct when he said that the CIS would not target Eriadu in the upcoming war and that he looked forward to working with him in the future.
    Tarkin was never sure what exactly went wrong with Dooku's plan, but he did *suspected that Vader was Anakin* based on their shared combat styles and also that *Palpatine may have been the Sith Lord* the Jedi had been concerned about. However, Tarkin *didn't actually care* that that was the case.

All local defence forces have to comply with Republic laws on weapon systems to prevent them from having too powerful of ships, but most worlds, even ones that were economically doing well like Naboo, would only have a few starfighter squadrons. The megacorporations were allowed to fit their large hauler craft with military grade weapons and security droids due to the threats of piracy and terrorism. This gave them a huge advantage.

Revan, Malik, Dooku, and even Exar Kun are all examples of jedi who fell to the dark side ultimately because of the complicated times they lived in and how the code could only guide them so much before they would ultimately have to come to their own conclusions and make their own decisions sadly in those cases not for the betterment of the galaxy at large

      @Necroscat Před měsícem +1

      @@ragingrat7670 Yeah I see your point there & it's right.
      I guess my points just more broad on how they both saw the flaws in the methods of Jedi & choose to disobey their rule & go on their "Own Paths" of solving things.
      Qui-Gon did choose to connect with The Force more directly (The Force is a sentient thing) rather than interpret it's will through set rules.
      Dooku saw the flaws in the Republic & the way it was ruled as a whole & wanted to forcefully impose a different order to rule, because to him Jedi weren't just Peace Keepers they also controlled the Galaxy. I also agree that The Jedi did rule the Galaxy & attacking Palpatine was Treason.
      If a Sith is legally rallying votes to rule over The Republic, you can't just try to assassinated him right before he goes into office...(sound familiar?)

    The Revenge of the Sith novelization added two very fun details involving Count Dooku. Firstly, it revealed that he can see peoples' "auras". Obi-Wan's aura was like a peaceful meadow, Anakin's was like a raging storm, and Palpatine's was a void that sucked in everything like the event horizon of a black hole.
    Secondly, the brief meaningful glance Dooku gave when Palpatine urged Anakin to kill him was expanded upon. To quote:
    "And he knows, then, that all has indeed been going according to plan. Sidious’s plan, not his own. This had been a Jedi trap indeed, but Jedi were not the quarry. They were the bait
    As he looks up into the eyes of Anakin Skywalker for the final time, Count Dooku knows that he has been deceived not just today, but for many, many years. That he has never been the true apprentice. That he has never been the heir to the power of the Sith. He has been only a tool.
    His whole life-all his victories, all his struggles, all his heritage, all his principles and his sacrifices, everything he’s done, everything he owns, everything he’s been, all his dreams and grand vision for the future Empire and the Army of Sith-have been only a pathetic sham, because all of them, all of him, add up only to this.
    He has existed only for this. This.
    To be the victim of Anakin Skywalker’s first cold-blooded murder.
    First but not, he knows, the last.
    Then the blades crossed at his throat uncross like scissors.
    Snip.
    And all of him becomes nothing at all."

I’m sorry, but explain to me how going this far down the path of the dark side doesn’t lead to sith eyes? What made Dooku so unique was that he still maintained his tether to his remaining humanity. Having him kill Sifo Dyas and his sister yet feel grief over Qui-Gon being killed makes no logical sense. Edit: While Dooku making an offshoot order would've been interesting, I think it's been stated before (at least in Legends) that the Jedi viewed all non-Jedi Order "Jedi" as basically equivalent to the Sith.
