I’ve mentioned before that the neighbor cat comes over every time you guys are at the mobile home. It’s clear that the cat loves your family but like many outdoor cats has adopted you as a second family. It’s funny how such an independent natured animal obviously still craves more interaction and love from available humans. I don’t blame the cat, if I were your neighbor I would come hang out with you too. Come to think of it , you make that possible by posting videos of your life and I’m eager to join you from a far. Along with all your other fans. Take care ❤

I installed a Villeroy&Boch shower base last year (in The Netherlands) and the instructions were to have a level floor (by using self levelling concrete) then spray expanding foam on the floor in the places indicated by the installation manual. Plonk in the shower base and put buckets of water in the shower base to prevent it being lifted. Worked like a charm. Really solid too

You did two things really well:
    1. You kept your cool. It's tough not to get frustrated when things go wrong. You keeping your cool means your wife keeps her cool, which means your son doesn't worry about Mommy and Daddy having a rage fest at having to undo and redo work that costs more money. Keeping calm allows you to think of solutions faster.
    2. You applied some critical thinking and came up with a solution. The wetter mortar was a perfect start - it's more malleable, easier to maneuver and force down into the areas you need. Drier mortar just doesn't have the flexibility. So that was a great first step. Setting blocks to level the sides and corners was also a good decision, allows you to be forceful in maneuvering the base down without going too far and breaking a piece off. Third, you put the walls in before anything dried, allowing you to see how everything will sit once it dries, so you can readjust (change out blocks) if necessary. And I think floor leveler in the bathroom will be a nice finish before tiling, it ensures the tile can be laid perfectly level without having to over-mortar the low areas to accomplish that - definitely a good decision.
The only thing I would have done different is to reuse your shower base first, before buying another one. You were able to chip away the mortar without damaging the underside, so I think you could have made your solution work with the same base, eliminating the possibility of having to fight with Home Depot or Lowes, wherever you bought it, to get a refund on a, what, probably $400-500 base? You may have not thought of the solution before replacing the base, but knowing your solution worked means it's something you can refer back to in the future.
But I applaud your calm and determination to fix the problem. No better confidence booster in DIY projects than a solution to a problem working almost exactly how you hoped. Well done, sir. 👍👍

Doug & Eevee I really love how you tackle problems as they arise- it sets such an important example for your kids, but you know that!! Especially the age Maverick is, he takes mental notes of everything his parents do, so how you run into problems as is life, but you don’t give up, you don’t do the- “nothing ever goes my way!” thing. Your attitude is very much, “we’ve got a problem, how are we going to fix it? What are our options? Then you move forward & do it. Sometimes when I see a child or teenager have a meltdown when any little thing doesn’t go according to plan, I always wonder if they learned that at home. So well done. You guys are awesome parents ❤

Hi you’re doing a wonderful job on your mobile home but let me give you a little bit of advice I am 68 just had knee replacement and when you put in your shower stall you might want to support the wall behind it so you can put a grab bar just in case in the future whoever buys it or rents it will have that option to have it if they need help getting out . I amrenting and they were not able to put me a grab bar inside of the tub because there was no board behind it to mount it to so just a little device it is up to you have a blessed day

I would try to return it, but if they don't? I would use it as an outdoor shower base, I have one and it's great for rinsing off sand and mud, so you don't drag it in to the house, comes in handy cleaning shoes,. also use mine to pot and water plants.. mines set on a pad of first sand and then pea gravel.. we also use our outdoor shower on our RV a lot..

Sorry this job required a redo, but you would never have been satisfied with it the way it was. Makes you wonder what kind of quality control they have at the factory. Since you have had this problem before, it must be poor QC. It seems if they require such a minute gap on your install, they would be more mindful of the product they produce. Looks good though, now. Thanks for sharing the tips you used to make it right. Y'all have a Blessed day.

Sorry for your trouble yall, That was so cool where you went down the drain @ 17: 53
Glad you explained the protective covers and safety @ 20:00
Personally I like plastic boxes because you can't accidentally short the hot terminal to the box. Metal is best because it provides better safety for potential electrocution to the cover screw which is grounded in a metal box, even if the ground wire comes loose or breaks off the outlet. I used plastic "old work boxes" in my 90 year old home, except the basement, which is all open, I used metal there. Before re-wiring, I had zero grounds at all in my home and the whole house was on 2-50amp breakers with cloth wire. If you don't have proper grounds, you become the ground, and that will mess up your day.

Hi Doug, Are you worried about the plywood panels under the shower plate? Should you put a water proof mesh or plastic sheet or water proof drywall under the shower plate? To avoid water damage or mold in the future. I live in Florida and humidity or moisture are molds best friend. I am saying this respectfully. I don’t have as much experience and knowledge as you do. I am only wondering what would be best with our climate. Love the videos.

I grew up in the US and Europe. Some things are done better in the US, some are done better in Europe. One thing the Europeans do which is much better is to use styrofoam bases for shower pans. The base is installed and leveled out exactly. The pan is then mounted on top and fixed in place. Automatically level. So much easier when dealing with floors like these two very competent people are dealing with.
Good work and I'm impressed by your ability to focus on the important things and not on mucho-macho ego.

Doug ACTUALLY fell through the drain. I knew you were slim but that was AMAZING! You weren't hurt and were able to muscle through the replacement and it is right! Good job.

This video was cool. The electrical box was scary but you will make it functional again.
I am glad you will be able to return the shower base.

Glad you were able to get the shower pan figured out. It's always fun trying to fit 'new construction' items into old construction, isn't it‽
