  • ▶▬ ABOUT THIS VIDEO▬
We love sitting in our double rocker on our porch at the off grid cabin, but the late afternoon sun hits the end of the porch for an hour. We chose a roll up blind from Alpha Mart to block that intense heat. This shade cloth works well for protecting us from the sun and will also work for providing shade for plants on the porch in the future.

Y'all are dang lucky to have this blind. It stop the sun but allows you to see thru. Y'all have a great weekend.

Another very nice feature to the blind is the fact that you can still see through it and enjoy the scenery or whats behind it. Its not a solid piece where if you heard something you would have to look around it but with this shade you can see right through it and block the sun at the same time !!!

It’s nice that even though it blocks the sun, you can still see through it.

I made something similar for our back porch. I used a tension rod between the post with a canvas awning curtain attached. It is about 50 inches wide and four feet long. I ran a small cord through the hem and tied off each end to each post. My porch is five steps high so the curtain doesn't block our few. I like your curtain because it can go up if a blowing rain comes. Thanks for the video.

I made curtains for my porch with painters drop cloth. I used a roll of oil lamp wick for the tab on the top and put up some pretty hooks to hang them. A dowel thru the bottom hem and some jute to tie them to the porch post so the won’t blow away... cost effective and pretty.....

H-D big box stores have them in their blinds catalog section. I installed 5 units sized to length in a friends restaurant with SWS exposure and it reduced sunlight by 75% (you could get different blocking ratings and material colors) and you could still see folks and environment. Used material that made it look like bamboo blinds in Thai/asian decor in S.C. about 3 years ago.
Just have to think outside the big box stores 🔨👏😎

About 8 years ago, I bought and used a bunch of those cheap mylar survival blankets as curtains during the heat of summer, you will not believe the difference in temperature that makes. I had full on sun in the morning on one side of my living/dining room kitchen in the morning, and in the afternoon, the other side. I was on an extremely tight budget, airconditioning was too expensive to run. I taped the top edge of the mylar with duct tape and punched holes, through wich I put shower curtain rings and hung it. the temperature dropped from 96.8F to 82F. The additional benefit was that it didn't make the room dark. I did leave windows open sometimes and they do crackle in the breeze, but that was a minor inconvenience. They have lasted until now, although I have had to retape the tops a few times as the tape would loosen. I now don't really need them any more as I have more trees on either side of the house, this too makes a huge difference. So for those on a budget, I can't recommend this highly enough.
Note: I bought extra packs of them and kept them in the cellar, they did not do well, the shiny stuff let go on the folds.
I bought mine very cheap from Ebay I got 2 packs of 6 for not much money at all. (ordered mine from China, and they were fine, that's where they all seem to come from anyway.
Hope this helps some of you.

My daughter and son-in-law screened in the outside half of my carport for me and my two cats. I bought 100% tan shade cloth for them to use on it. Keeps out the most of the sun and the bugs. Nice in the afternoon/evening. A fan on the hottest days kept the cats comfortable. That roll up feature across one outside wall would be even nicer!

'That' is AWESOME, Danny! I have a 3-sided glass SUNporch, with limited sit time due to the captured sun. I do have Venetian blinds, but that's a BUNCH of slats to keep clean, and sadly, they're not. They're there, also, for privacy. But on both counts, they just don't do the trick like I 'believe' your screen does! I may have to check this out. Thanks for sharing your solution to an annoying issue. : )

The East side of my covered porch gets blasted by morning sun. I'm considering making my own blind. I prefer to hem it at the top rail. My dogs enjoy their view and I enjoy the breeze. So I need 7 feet wide by 5 feet high. I'm looking at shower curtains by Ambesonne. They do photoprinting on 100% polyester cloth. The selection is staggering, over 45000 choices, landscapes, waterfalls, florals, seascapes, etc. Their largest size is 105 inch wide by 69 inch high for under $60. The design problem of the moment is what to do about the sides of the blind. Everywhere I read, they say do not stitch a turned hem at the sides because that creates an uneven bulk on the roller. One possible alternative is a "stop fraying" product that paints on as a liquid and dries clear.

You mean if you pull a shade down when the sun is out, it gets cooler? Amazing. Who knew?

That shade cloth easily block 50% or more of the sun ... very nice set up ... you need something like that for over your greenhouse for those intense Summer sunny days.
How is your indoor growing going??? Start small and learn from your successes and failures.
    Praying for your success.

I don't know what's going on with that. I need to check all of the channels I have subbed to and make sure I get notified when you put out a video.

Crstobal Pacheco that was a rude and even ignorant comment. Danny clearly noted being the HONEST man he is, that they had been asked to use and review a shade clothe item. He could have lied and not noted it was sent to him to use and talk about. Did you notice he noted a concern of the chain set up was a concern to him? As it is for most people with young children.
When they do videos using their pressure canners which they love and we can see the make and model of the pressure canner are those commercials to you? If a family member of friend is given or buys something they like, and they tell you about it, are they doing a commercial too?
