This fly works for sure! Floats like a cork and yet it sits low in the film! Thanks for pulling out all the stops to make this one happen. Libby is stoked to get to the vice tonight!

So it worked? You got me on that one. Would have never thought CDC would float a #6 hook. I'm going to try it. On a golden. great vid Cheech.

Great pattern!! one little addition I will do is to build up an orange butt on it like the egg sacks on the female salmon flies I have seen in my area. Thank you for the video!!

very interesting pattern ... could do some green etc for variations and hook size. i was holding out hope that cheech would reach for his numbered swiss multitool loop when making that cdc loop :) ah smothered hope...

I saw the last few salmonflies around here yesterday while out climbing along the river. One was super orange, almost completely orange. The other was more typical red and black that I have seen before. Super cool seeing the variation. But fish around here eat the purple Chubby just fine. Not sure what I'd do if I found a purple salmonfly wandering around

Awesome looking fly. I want to tie some up for the Gunnison. Think it will float a perdigon?

Great fly tying up some for my first trip to Montana in two weeks. This is the most advanced fly I have done since I started tying in October. Since I don't have a clamp tool, I didn't know how to tie in the CDC in the dubbing loop so I just tied it in the feather with the tip (two feathers) and wrapped. Is this the only alternative? And I split the thread since I know how to do it but haven't worked with dubbing loop yet. Any tips on these workarounds? I may get the clamp but no time before trip.

Tying in by the tip might be your best bet. Have fun on your trip!

I know he didn't want foam, but wrapping the body in orange foam strip colored black with a sharpie would have been good, and some poly material would have been great for the underwing.

Taking a stab at this right now, hoping to catch the hatch in 10 days!
