Yeah I bought two Double Masters boxes when I got my tax returns just before the prices really blew up ($350 each) and as of right now one box is sitting at $680 and the other is worth $630, only counting the rares and mythics. It does help that I opened two force of wills, one of which was showcase, and a mana vault. I was contemplating between getting Ultimate Masters or Double Masters and only went with DM because there were more cards that I was personally interested in.
Just looked at the uncommon prices for Double Masters since I haven't checked them since before the prices skyrocketed, and didn't realize that I got over $100 worth of uncommons too (between both boxes).

I like how you started complaining about only 2 mythics literally 20 seconds after putting Ulamog in the rare pile.
Modern is like one of the most beloved formats in the game, and it hasn't really been allowed to exist much during the pandemic outside of MTGO due to lack of paper play and magic primarily being showcased on arena during this time. My guess is that everyone is just super excited to play modern in paper again and are optimistic about the future of paper play opening back up relatively soon, driving the prices back up as everyone is preparing and getting their decks for modern post pandemic, which probably draws people into speculating as they see price movements, just driving up the prices even higher. Demand is increasing on both ends, players and speculators. I know I personally bought into a couple modern decks during the pandemic that I always wanted to play because the price was so low and it was more accessible than ever. I'm sure others have done the same.

Most of the spiked uncommons and rares are EDH staple. Becuse of the corona virus, there are no live event for competitive formats, so most people have shifted to online. Casual player mostly play tabletop and commander, and since there is no online format for commander, people keep buying those cards, and thats why the prices are spiking.

Ultimate Masters will always be the most fun set to watch being opened. Also maybe the uptick in Modern could be from the hype of MH2.

Saw UM, clicked very fast. Looking forward to more UM videos like in the past.
I will say, when wizards stopped sanctioned events, Modern cards were at an all time low last summer. I was buying foil relic of progenitus for $1-$2 each. Double Masters also came out and dropped Modern's price point DRAMATICALLY. The cards reprinted in DM were in such high supply that now these cards reprinted in UM are having to go up due to being older now. Top that off with Wizards reopening in-person play and I think it makes sense to have prices going up
Picked up a box of UM about a month ago from my LGS after I got my fat tax return, paid 360$ for the box and pulled 400$-450$ worth of cards. Box topper Leovold, Kozilek Butcher of Truth, Bitterblossom and Snapcaster Mage were my mythic pulls. Gamble, Demonic Tutor, Entomb, Reanimate, Fauna Shaman, foil Fauna Shaman were the good rares. Plus LOADS of other cards that are going for around 3$-8$ a piece. By the time I was done with the box, I needed a new pair of shorts.....
On Noble Heirach; it has so many printings now that unless someone corners the market(which is a lot of Nobles now) there are too many. With the Judge Promo, box toppers, Originals, and Modern master, Ultimate masters.. It goes on. If one card has been slaughtered by supply, it's Noble Heirarch.

Weird, my LGS had a box of Ultimate Masters that they were selling individual packs from, so me and my friends bought a few. From them I got a Dark Depths and my friend got a Tarmogoyf and Ulamog
At $400 USD a box on TCGP and an EV of $407 USD (market) on Dawn Glare, that's pretty good ($465 USD mid)

Hey Rudy! Poking-your-mom has had the same thing recently where the secret rare versions of competitive cards has gone though the roof (or too the spoon as the kids say). See Quickball and switch. Both have doubled in the last 2 weeks.

FTP on Arena and just diving into Strix and would enjoy any NON netdeck ideas any of you have thought up. I enjoy Green, White and blue kinda but mainly green decks but don't mind mixing in a couple other colors. Only problem is I've only been playing Arena since Christmas so done have a pile of cards and would prefer to mainly only craft sets that will not be rotating out in Sept. Don't need or even want deck lists, more just ideas you've had that look like they could be turned into something with the right cards. :) played back when Homelands, Fallen first hit the market and the deck building was ABSOLUTELY my favorite aspect of it but now with most using the same deck lists makes it not as much fun getting beat down by the same Rogues, mono white/ red, and Ultimatum decks over and over. :/ just haven't learned all the Strix cards yet. So like i say, if you've noticed a killer green card that deserves a deck around it, let me know. I've opened a pile of green/ black cards so that's probably a direction I'll go in. Thank you

I am so happy that I bought some modern cards before this spike, but I hope I am ready for whatever is coming. We all know that MH2 is going to blow the shit out of modern! MH2 is so close, and with some new Strixhaven stuff making modern faster and more effeicent, modern is going to comeback with a vegence.

In Europe you can still find gigantic stockpiles of those boxes for less than a taco party pack, but Europe always takes 6 to 12 months before catching up with US prices... normal stuff.

I think that the cards aren't going up in value, the value of an individual US dollar is going down due to excess money printing. You can see it in housing prices and food prices as well.

Yea, I knew that was trash in 2020 and I went all in on Ultimate Masters... and then everyone was like you should stay away from dead modern Double Masters --- again, trash... great set gaining value both in singles and sealed. Double Masters and Ultimate Masters are fire. Glad I got a huge stock of it :D
