Feeling like you got a gig coz you're a bird, and not because you are good enough to be on that line up, is a cringe position to be put in, that is likely to bring resentment that isn't nice either.
Some people are shameless egotists who think they are owed everything and will bring up anything that helps them get ahead.
I personally just find it awkward, but it does kick me up the arse to put on the best show possible if I think I am in that position. 🤷
