  • Sir Cliff Richard is leading calls for those accused of sex offences to be granted anonymity until they're charged. The singer, who was never arrested or found guilty and strongly denied the claims, was publicly named in a child sex allegation after a televised police raid on his home in 2014.
The music star talked to Sky's Mark Austin, along with Daniel Janner QC , founder of the campaign group 'Falsely Accused Individuals for Reform' and the broadcaster and critic Paul Gambaccini, who was also falsely accused.

Not only for those accused of sexual crimes, but for those accused of any type of crime, confidentiality in the process must be guaranteed until the verdict is reached, because the media destroys a person accused of anything long before he is judged.

He wasn't found innocent, the reports went back 40+ years and there was "lack of evidence".
My Dad used to be a Teddy Boy and ran in the same circles and milk bars. The police were always after Cliff for interfering with young boys. This was before he became a huge star but was on his way so had some clout.
These cases go back as far as the late 1950's so of course there was a lack of evidence.
      It doesn't make him innocent.

Remember the person that accused Edward Heath Leon Britain and the army person, that turned out to be false, it later turned out he was a abuser himself and was imprisoned for his crimes, the most sickening thing was that he was encouraged to make those false allegations by a certain Tom Watson deputy leader of Labour Party who at the time believed him.

False accusations are far more common that people realize. Women will accuse fellow male co workers, or ex boyfriends of things because they were dumped by that boyfriend, or for work place vindictiveness.
Those who falsely accuse should face prosecution. Those accused should not be named until proven guilty.

Statistically speaking it's VERY rare for these kinds of accusations to be falsified. That being said, anonymity is still necessary for a fair trial. The second a matter becomes public opinion, the jury will inevitably be swayed by it.

9 people laid accusations on him. I find it very hard to believe that every single one of them was a false accuser. 1 or 2 people sure, but not 9 different people. The fact the CROWN prosecution service made the decision not to act on the claims (remember, the police didnt clear him of anything, and must have thought there was some merit to the charges or they wouldnt have even investigated) probably has more to do with old Cliffs friends pulling some strings than him actually being innocent. No doubt the truth will out after he kicks the bucket like his pal Jimmy.

  • @ajsctech8249

Cliff is correct here. Regardless of guilt then those accused of any crime must be given the benefit of anonymity to enable true justice as that's the only way to actually execute a fair and proper legal trial. Sex accusations really linger and destroy people even when someone is exonerated. It cannot be fair that people can bring accusations knowing that even if their case fails that the person they accused has their life and career destroyed.

Why is this, all of a sudden, being discussed in the U.K.?
Does it have anything to do with a certain county sheriff in the U.S. conducting an investigation in to certain heinous crimes? An investigation, by the way, in which NO INDIVIDUALS have been named, yet the county prosecutor (of the same county as the sheriff) held a press conference calling for the ouster of the county sheriff, because as the county prosecutor (erroneously) claims the county sheriff named the county prosecutor (by name) as being among those being investigated?
FACT: That county prosecutor has not been named in that investigation.
Yet that county prosecutor holds a press conference calling for the ouster of the county sheriff?
    Hmmm? Coincidental?
Oh, and a not so minor detail: that county sheriff's investigation appears to have developing leads reaching the U.K., several countries in Europe and Ukraine.
