    Anthony and Frances, Thanks for the articulate playthrough and post game insights. Frances is right, Anthony....With two catapult spaces covered, another Feudum would have greatly benefited you, although you did use the King Seal to score 7vp with your Royal Writ. : )

    Awesome review, I'm building up my hype before the 7 year anniversary crowdfunding, and your review helped feeling confident this is what I'm looking for: crunchy, low luck high strategy, take that, sandboxy,clicking awesome. All in one package. Epic.
    Thanks for your video!

    Many thanks for this, having played several games myself I have been saddened that there are so many haters. Yes it is deep and hard to learn but it is also great fun to play. So I was really please that you came to the same conclusion. Nice, light you both have too, I have now subscribed

    First huge thank you for the nice video. It is always a pleasure to watch you playing a game. I received a copy of the game last week. Haven't opened it yet. Maybe i wait until I receive the solo expansion , because I do not like take that elements in games but I like the art and design of the game.

    Very enjoyable video, you both also give good advice as to tackle learning this kind of game. It is pretty heavy at first but becomes much easier after actually playing it a couple of times. It is a daunting game to teach to people who have not looked at the rules or watched a learning video though. Their eyes sometimes just glaze over after a couple of minutes… I am hoping to play it again soon, it is a beautiful and weirdly intriguing game.

    You made quite a few errors during this game.
    1. When you repeat a guild action, you must take your second guild action in a different guild to the first one. So yellow could not have bought those 2 vessels with the first 2 actions.
    2. When you discard Royal Writ cards they should be discarded to the bottom of the deck - there is no discard pile.
    3. When replenishing the map at the dawn of Epoch 2, you got the wrong location for the Southernmost location of the Badlands.
    4. When performing the Alchemist's push action and inventing 2 Krud barrels, yellow could have invented a vessel at the same time to get the extra point for a 3rd invention.
    5. You forgot the 1 VP for playing the Harvest action a number of times.
    6. When you Improve a farm into a town, all goods on the farm must be returned to the haversack.
    7. When you Improve a location you score points based on the region TILE, not based on the current Epoch. So when yellow improved to a town in the Badlands during Epoch 2, taking an Epoch 1 tile, she should have score 3 points, not 4. (Again later, when she improves in the desert during Epoch 3, taking an Epoch 2 tile, she should have scored 4 points not 5).
    8. You made a number of mistakes when trading with the Farmer's guild.
    8.a) When you trade goods to the Farmer's guild, you leave any goods that were already in the guild there.
    8.b) ONLY from those you are sending there, you randomly select enough to fill the guild up to 10 goods.
    8.c) From any remaining, you randomly select as many as are showing on the chickens. You attempt to place ONLY those goods into the Merchant's guild. If any of those specific goods don't fit, you then attempt to fit them into the Alchemist's guild. If they still don't fit, you place them back into the haversack along with any other remaining goods EVEN IF different goods would have fitted.
    9. Blue's Noble moved on a Ferryboat route without paying 2 shillings to the bank.
    10. When you move, you complete all movement and then pilfer ONE good total from any ONE of the locations that you moved a pawn to. Yellow should not have pilfered more than one resource with one move.
    11. When you Harvest, Feudums also add to your total, so 1 farm + 1 Feudum generates 6 goods (5 for the farm and 1 kickback), not 5.
    12. When yellow influenced her 4th outpost (in the mountains) she then had 5 status stars in the Alchemist's guild. This overtook blue's 4 status stars, so she should have become guildmaster.
    13. Yellow didn't pay her wood to build her landscape.
    14. When blue traded with the noble guild he paid all of the money to the bank instead of distributing it correctly.
    15. Only ruled locations and landscape-tending serfs count towards active regions for epoch scoring. Yellow's serf in the forest region does not count, so she is not active in that region.
    16. When replenishing guilds, you also replenish vessels (so you needed 1 extra random vessel) and influence markers (so blue & yellow should both get 2 influence markers in their rows at the Knight's guild).
    17. In Epoch 3 yellow did a move action using 4 movement points when she only was allowed to use 3 (she miscounted).
    18. When yellow played her Defend card she should have earned 1 VP, and the protected serf should have had a (usable) King's Seal placed underneath it.
    19. The Starve The People attempt was defended against, so blue should not have gained a 2nd military service step.
    20. When yellow purchased a single food at the Merchant's guild, it only costs 2 shilling. She should not have paid 3 shillings.
    21. At the dawn of Epoch 5 (end of game) just like every other epoch, you first score landscapes then you get to replenish them, and have the option to collect resources from them as usual. So yellow first scored 4 points from a landscape with goods, then it replenishes with 3 extra shillings, then she can decide whether to collect them (paying 1 shilling to the ruler).
    22. At the end of the game you score 1 point for every THREE shillings, not 1 for every shilling.

      Doug Radcliffe The rulebook is essential, the player aids are not informative enough on their own. By the time you understand the game enough to ditch the rulebook, you won't need the player aid lol.

    Thanks a lot for this playthrough. It is amazing, fascinating, and convincing. Now I know what I want to get for my birthday in July. Fortunately the game should be available in Germany soon.
    In the past days I teached my wife Madeira which she did not want to play at first but now she loves it. I hope the same will happen with Feudum.
    I highly appreciate the content of your channel.

    So my friends and I have tried this four time…each ending with confusion. It both feels too complex and way too short for the complexity…and the complexity isn’t from the guilds or even the building and upgrading…it’s the damn travel! That and the military being so difficult to get going if you do go down Feudum alley…we must be missing something…

  • @Nain1982
    @Nain1982 Před 6 lety +3

    This game is so freaking terrible to digest. It takes like an hour alone to explain. There are plenty of games of that complexity that are so much easier to explain.

    • @Dometooplz
      @Dometooplz Před 6 lety +1

      Rules explanation takes about 40 minutes if you get better at it. But you don't have to go with that approach. You can omit explaining the guilds in depth, allowing players to use the player aids and answering questions as they come along. The first game is a learning game anyway so it's not like that explaining every little bit means the players will get to utilize everything efficiently . You can easily cut down the explanation to 20 minutes that way.

    • @Nain1982
      @Nain1982 Před 6 lety +1

      Dometooplz. A rules explanation of 40 min is still long enough. Even a game like Feast for Odin with 61 actions took me about 30 min to explain to people that were non-gamers. With even gamers, this game's rules are extremely extended. Yes, I have explained rules many times. I know that some things can be omitted and left for clarification during gameplay. This game is still very overwhelming and exhausting to teach. Other friends that also own the game have had the same complain. It's definitely a hard game to digest.

    • @Dometooplz
      @Dometooplz Před 6 lety +4

      Is it certainly a difficult game to grok, not saying otherwise. But it is doable, and in my mind: worth it.
      This is a very unique and fun game. And it is also not as long as you might expect. I guess that depends on the players but for my first game it took something like 45 minutes per player. Sure, not a short game in any means but not overwhelmingly long.
