Eberlestock Switchblade Backpack: An EDC Hidden Gem?

  • Thanks for watching.. In this video I share with you the Eberlestock Switchblade. Eberlestock is not a company that I am familiar with. After wearing this pack for the last week I'm proud to report that Eberlestock makes solid gear. No pack is perfect and this one is no exception. If this pack is every redesigned it needs better padding for the shoulder straps, better water bottle holders and a redesigned carry handle. I found this pack to be highly functional during my time with it.

Eberlestock and Arc'teryx reside in the top echelon of hunting, camping, and military backpacks. That's a very interesting take on a, "not an operator's, operator pack." Thanks for sharing. One.

@@nathankeel4308 MR makes very purpose built packs. If you're a medic or carrying some specific type of equipment MR is probably your best bet. If you want an all around pack or an assault pack eberlestock smokes them. Only been using both for 17 years though :D biased towards the j51 Warhammer and will never forget that time I had to carry 200lbs in it o.o

GREAT REVIEW! GREAT PACK! One thing I have not seen mentioned in comments yet but what sold me on the Eberlestock F5 Switchblade vs other packs like 5.11 and the little trick pack is that it is compatible with Eberlestock's modular systems. It seems this channel is geared toward EDC but with the Switchblade you can pair it with Eberlestock carrier frames (F1 or M1) and modular attachment packs and turn this EDC pack into the core of an aluminum framed, waist belted, BEAST of a camping/hiking/SHTF pack system with nearly limitless size, volume and application combinations. So you can haul this little guy around for EDC and then strap it into the carrier frame and slap on your camping pack or trauma kit or whatever the situation may be into a load bearing and ergonomic modular pack system. So I think is an excellent choice for EDC especially if you wanna still get value from the pack for hunting, camping or prepping.

Great video! The SwitchB is an excellent EDC, easily carries all necessary equipment for up to a 6 day GHB. I keep it in the back of my car, holds first aid kit, food, water straws, tarp/poncho, hygiene pack, lightweight net hammock, has a concealed carry section that is completely unobservable, etc., total loadout is 21 pounds, excellent piece of equipment.

Elastic for the water bottles wear out. Draw string lasts forever. I have the bag and it is well engineered and constructed with quality material. The shoulder straps are perfect and I wouldn't change anything. The bag is not dope, I don't like the saying 😒. It is a great bag though with a lifetime warranty. The bag is priced fairly compared to 511 and first tactical. Like the Clay shirt though!

Mystery Ranch, Eberlestock and Arc'teryx aren't really hidden gems, they're the lambo/ferrari/koenigsegg of the pack world....they don't have to advertise because it's necessity that will drive their customers to them. Ah... Eberlestock. Yeah, that's one of my go-to brands for load bearing backpacks. I have this backpack. It's great if you need CCW capabilities, and it's generally a good all-purpose EDC bag. For my purposes, though, the back panel was not ideal. When this bag came out, I was hoping for an EDC bag that would seamlessly transition to a load bearing bag with a hip belt (the capabilities which it has, but I don't think you mentioned). The back panel just wasn't stiff enough to do that properly, and it just ended up deforming to the shape of my lower back.
In any event, it's a really good bag. Bonus, is that you can attach it to their external frame pack (M1 Mainframe), but I found the G hook attachment system kinda loosey goosey as well.
In the end, I went to using a Vanquest IBEX 35 without a hip belt for EDC, with hip belt for heavy load bearing. Slightly larger bag, very similar in design, but a bit more versatile in terms of flexibility and storage compartments. And... a stiffer back panel, so ended up being pretty ideal.

Eberlestock can thank you for the shout out as I never heard of them before. The compartments are well laid out. I'm more of a travel, airport commando and see the great uses for it. The compartments are great for battery charger, ear buds, magazine access at the airport without exposing all your contents. The top flap that exposed the molle when open is only good for attaching a bag like you said. I would have preferred to have a zip up pocket with translucent material that is waterproof instead of a flap with molle. It's a lazy use of space that could have been exploited. I'd consider this bag. It would hold enough clothes and my fishing reels for the travel that I do when i'm able to escape for a long weekend fishing trip when I fly. I don't think it's worth $200 though. Great review George, thank you.

Nice choice. They are well known for their quality. I haven't tried their low key line. Being more rural, I can get away with things looking military surplus. I have their Low Drag pack. Which has served me well. Got it on the used (once then sat in their closet) market for a lower price. From an overnight stay to a carry on for a flight. This thing is a beast.
I haven't needed to use the rifle scabbard for it's intended use. But it makes for a perfect laptop or jacket pouch. Also the most comfortable pack I've used. Great video, and always honest.
This was almost the PERFECT bag to go for, the only thing to let the bag down was the water pockets on the side and no compression straps.
At 3.58 in the video when loaded with the plastic water bottle it looked as if the bottom of the bottle wouldn’t take long to rub or puncture through the pocket :( I feel if elastic was used to expand the bottom of that pouch the bottle would sit more cleanly and less prone to rubbing a hole in the bottle pocket when climbing between rocks or trees.
    Such a shame....

      @williamgollatz1911 Před 2 lety

Eberlestock only advertises them as "cupholders." Theya re not tall. If there were taller, they would interfere with the side molle. I don't even consider them bottle holders. I have used the predecessor of the Bandit (H3 Sawed-Off Hydro) to hold the base of trekking poles, and even a small tripod. The strap is to keep small items from falling out. Anything larger than a cup will fallout. I lash the top of water bottles (or anything else tall) to the molle loops because if you swing the bag down, a tall item would fall out. On my bag, the pockets are very durable. I'd lash anything to be honest to deter theft.

Eberlestock makes the very best “Operator’s” backpack. It truly is the highest recommended and used by all Spec-Ops military and private contractors for observer/shooter teams. It is called the “G4” and I know first hand ... it is truly a masterpiece of efficiency. Don’t choke and gag when you see the price ... this is not a toy, wanna be pack. This unit is entirely civilian tech, but as they have never compromised durability... it should out perform most packs in it’s class. From insertion to evac, the high end military models are as good as they get !

Another great video. I really enjoy your approach and the use of the bottle and training weapon. Now that I have been watching more and more videos, I wish you had more of a scoring system for your final "grade." Like you, I carry a larger water bottle, so that can make or break a decision for me. I also do not carry a CCW, but can appreciate the untility of such compartments. Can I suggest a series of categories with your honest score in each, then if its between 8/10 and 10/10 it's great, 6/10 - 8/10 it's good, and so on. For your consideration! Please keep the great videos coming...I'm going back to watching more!

It very much resembles the Vanquest IBEX... the IBEX always seemed kinda “plain” to me, that’s actually why I don’t have one. This has more organization to it so now I’m debating on getting one.

The problem with the top main opening is those zips will 100% ride down with a heavey load beca theres nothing stopping them. They needed some compression straps, just bellow the corner of the zip line so you could open the top without the zips slowly working down as you rummage around. This is one of the reasons I don't like zips. Give me a buckle flap and draw string pull any day especially for mil gear!

hey friend just wanted to say eberlestock is one of my most favorite companies.. their packs are designed for both hunting and military and law enforcement. they make the strongest bags ive seen. bags holding up to 700 and some pounds before malfunction. i own alot of their products. spendy but if you buy them you wont regret. most of their packs are tactical looking. about 95% of them even the so called hunting gear. its all tactial. they are a hidden gem but if you like their looks buy them cuz youll never be sorry. go see their website and look at all of them. you might want more!!! be well!!
