  • In 1985, the most damaging flood in West Virginia's history destroyed many of the towns, roadways, railways, and bridges that lay in its path. At Cass Scenic Railroad, a rail line along the Greenbrier River was decimated, washing much of the railroad and underlying land out completely. For 37 years, that line has remained out of service and in disrepair. Soon, upon completion of the Trout Run Bridge, that railway will reopen, and trains from Cass will once again have a scenic route to take tourists to the town of Durbin. Crews from the WV DOH, along with numerous contractors, generous businesses, and other organizations, all worked together tirelessly to complete this monumental task.
