Rarran, RegisKillbin, Zeddy, trump, thijs and other hearthstone youtubers all play different hs gamemodes. Duels, Battlegrounds, Standard, Arena and Wild are in the game that can new cards from new expansions to climb and win HS games.
Hearthstone is a card game based on WOW, it is also a digital card game.
Legends of Runeterra is a 2020 digital collectible card game developed and published by Riot Games. Inspired by the physical collectible card game Magic: The Gathering, the developers sought to create a game within the same genre that significantly lowered the barrier to entry.
"they kinda did this guy dirty"
They sure did. It was called the "War of the Spark"
That's nothing compared to how they treated Chandra and nissa
@@akselhansen304 How because Chandra is a joke
@@jutton11 chandra and nissa were in a relationship up until war of the spark;and then all the sudden they were just both magically made straight
Like theres a line where chandra thinks to herself about how she could never be in a relationship with nissa because she only likes big burly buff guys, i think it even mentions her being attracted to gideon (which is shown a total of 0 times before and after that is written).
Litterally undid years worth of storytelling and characterization because gay people were in it
And WOTC kept it! No revisions, no dropping the books from lore and redoing it. The whole books is awful and the C+N thing was only the cherry on the shit pie.
@@7fatrats if you're more worried about gay relationships in a fictional universe than the rest of the issues with this game then I feel bad for you.
@@7fatrats dude go outside
I never thought it would be so interesting to see someone play through the tutorial
It's so fascinating to watch new players learn the mechanics.
The tutorial is unironically the best part of Arena.
Haha I know it's fun
@@DankAudioStash24The real ironic part is the tutorial doesn't even teach you how to play. There's so many more mechanics that the game just says good luck for. Im still new and I saw someone just do an absurd amount of stuff not even learned in the tutorial especially the play styles.
Magic is quite a fun and deep game, I alternate between it and Hearthstone depending on the meta, and would love to see you play more of it. Here's a tip tho, if you right click a card, it gets frozen on the screen so you can take your time reading it.
Hmm is there not a log / spell log like hearthstone has in case you missed an effect?
@@nZifnab No, and I really wish there were. Though unlike hearthstone you can always look into your opponent's graveyard to see what he casted.
I switch between yugioh and mtg for fresh air. Absolutely love both, maybe a little more mtg at the moment
I really hope we'll see more MTG content :3
would be super cool
:3
I agree. I play a lot of Hearthstone, but MTG is definitely my choice game
I'll be adding some algorithm engagement to this
Yesssss
I've played Magic for almost 10 years and I don't play Magic anymore, but something that never stops bringing me joy is seeing other people try it out and having fun with it.
@@1tolightradius you should just hop on arena for about ten minutes a day and complete challenges, then you can save up free currency to draft from time to time
That's a really well designed tutorial. At first all of your moves are essentially forced but it still feels exciting to see it all executed and it teaches you how the basic card types and mechanics work.
As a new player it didn't help me. It gives a bare minimum and doesn't cover how tons of mechanics work, deck building, win conditions, or even give recommendations for mixing stuff. I'm new and I had to enlist outside resources just to understand it😭
starting tips from this video:
1) you can set speed of text/animation in options
2) as a HS player you really should learn how to use Instants in opponents turns
3) you dont cast things before your attack to have free mana and (at least) bait enemy you have something in your hand. after attack there is second main phase when you cast your things
Unless it's something with haste or an activated ability you can threaten activation with
@@brendaneichler5480 Sure thing, i didnt want to make it too complicated ;)
point 2 is very important. Let the opponets buff his creature and then murder it
I want more MTG content! ;d
Also - Murder is an instant - you can use it in your opponent's turn, that way you can trick him into buffing a creature and as a response to his action to kill it. That alone makes the game so much deeper. Being able to respond to an action rather than having a passive board state is the magic of MAGIC.
Favorte part was when the Tutorial was ready to play cardss to win and our boy Rarran wasn't having it
Rarran,
You can activate Full Control by holding CTRL or toggle it by SHIFT+CTRL it makes it so that most game actions pause the game until you pass back priority to your opponent. This is part of a larger Magic mechanic called the stack. This is the in-progress part of most spells and actions played. Certain archetypes of decks are entirely played during the stack, and if you have possible game actions during the stack the program automatically pauses for you.
Arena is designed to use turn timers, it's very similar to chess, where each player gets a certain amount of time each turn. Full control or the deck archetypes that play on the stack, use your time bank for the turn. - it's also the reason why it moves so fast on your opponent's turn, it's using their time bank, and magic assumes each player knows their own deck.
Edit: Good Video Fun content!
Please dont go around telling people to play with full control. While it has its benefits sometimes(ex. Scry instants before draw steps) its totally pointless to hold it up all the time. Also magic gives you the option to have certain aspects of full control turned on without needing to press resolve at each step.
He can right click any card if he wants to read what they do.
@@meszarosmate4629 but he can not click on the opponents card while it is still thier turn oddly. He has to do so during his turn.
@@loganshaw4527 he can.
Rarran, you can look opponents graveyards by clicking it.
Hell yeah. Was waiting for this video. Now I’m waiting for you to play yu-gi-oh
Team APS crossover episode when?
It would be really cool to have idk one day a week where you play or do content for mtg/runeterra - just as a side thing. You bringing people on from those communities has been super cool to see and the interactions have been great, and I think videos like this are a really good way to get people from those communities to get exposed to stuff you're making about hearthstone which might get some of them involved if they enjoy it. It's win win win really
Try the draft mode(basically the hs arena),you have no idea the kind of games that can happen in magic, draft mode will help you appreciate their complexity and depth of mechanics.
ooo, also wrings a little bit more of that wonderful content juice we got from the pvddr video. I'd love to see Rarran thrown into the deep end of card evaluation while he still doesn't have his feet fully under him
@@jobobrien1420 I unironically got into magic because of the pvddr video
Man I'd love to see more MTG content here. I'd watch every damn video twice over.
You learning and having your personality shine through is so entertaining
as a magic player of over 20 years, this was genuinely entertaining :)
welcome to the fold.
I really want to see him get the actual mtg experience, especially counterspells
I really hope you end up playing more, this was entertaining. It took me a while as well to get into MTG and now I'm addicted :')
Rarran you can direct challenge people if you want to 1 v 1 viewers and check out their cards without spending money
Excellent. Love MTG.
As a player thats played both games a bunch this is so damn funny
I'd definitely like to see more MtG content! Perhaps once a week if it works! Loved the video!
Imo, magic is fun. I think it takes more to get into than hearthstone, both money and time-wise, but also offers more interaction and in my opinion, more in-depth gameplay.
Hearthstone's representation is so much better, and I know some people shit on the hearthstone client a lot, but the MTG clients are even worse xD
Imo LoR is the balance between hs and mtg, but LoRs meta is arms race atm :'(
yep, everything in HS is designed to be immediate to understand
@@christopherIF Magic used to have that, but -simple- boring cards didn't sell well, so now everything has at least a paragraph of text
How can you say that MTG clients are worse? We had sounds bugged for just 3 weeks.
@@TheLangenator Magic just evolved. And there was always more to it than Hearthstone, which is why HS is really hard to enjoy for a lot of Magic players.
So something that I noticed quickly with you in this video. In the options gor arena you can change the settings which has the game auto through abilities and spells you can't react to so that you can read stuff as well as having key binding to change it as needed. This is something I wish the game told you about.
As a magic the gathering player and Rarrans #1 fan I approve of this video
Wow! Amazing content! I love it! Seeing you go outside of your realm with your humor is amazing 😭
7:12 Ah yes, the classic "Hearthstone Player Tries to Guess How Good Magic Cards Are" experience LUL
Why is it bad in MTG? In HS, Backfire (3 mana draw 3, deal 3 to self) is good and sees alot of plays
@@RickyMuzakki Backfire would be a lot worse at 4 mana, which is basically the reason Ambition's Cost isn't very good. It's not as bad as the comment made it sound but it never sees Constructed play.
"what if I get rid of some lands? We don't need that many"
We have all done that at first, don't lie
Lol right when poeple do not know how many lands they really need. Just do not be crying when only 2 or 3 lands show up the while game.
The only issue with arena compared to other big online card games is that arena is super super predatory and it’s basically impossible to finish a competent deck without spending a ton of money or playing the game religiously
I have been able to and do not. You get alot of wild cards from opening all the promo codes
the client is also soooooo unpolished compared to hs or runeterra
It's easier to get a deck f2p on arena than it is on hearthstone
Yeah I picked up MTG 2 months ago and I'm still missing rare lands from my deck, I picked up Runeterra and by the end of week 1 I had 37/40 cards and week 2 it was done
Pretty sure I'm dropping magic after I finish my one deck, tbh I probably would've bought a deck if I could but I'll never buy packs
im f2p and got multiple competitive decls stfu
If you need a standard coach I am your man. Seeing new players having fun in magic is something special. It is fullfilling with joy and hapiness.
You can read the card or effect they're using if you click it. Just hovering over it doesn't stop the timer on it.
well, you did pretty good for your first time, i think
ill watch a draft if you ever do one, those are fun.
Hey, Rarran, I've heard that the MTG is more complicated than HS, so I have a question, does it make throwing for content easier or harder?
Asking for a friend
I have no idea haha
The first steps in MTG-Arena do not reflect the real experience that the game can offer. This allows you to take control of the interface and understand the basic mechanics (phase, mana, combat, capacity, type of spell) and therefore remains simple (see disappointing).
If MTG is considered more complex, it comes from the possibilities of card associations like all TCGs. On this point MTG has a pool of unique edited cards unmatched (22,630). Certain combinations can make useless cards devastating in the appropriate game in a way that is perhaps more pronounced than in other games, because the cards can affect the structuring rules of the game (game phases, win conditions, etc.)
For a beginner player, this complexity is not accessible at first sight, because hidden by the formats. Each format allowing more or less extension (nothing unique), this virtually reduces the number of possible associations. There is a real power gap between each format (Draft, Standard, Historic), but there is also a power gap between MTG-Arena and the "paper" version of the game.
To conclude, MTG is a game: "Easy to Learn, hard to master", the first steps are no more complicated than elsewhere, widely accessible to a child.
I hope this will have answered your question.
@Rarran : Continu like it, I realy enjoy your video ;)
It is super annoying how the cards disappear when you’re trying to read. Right clicking the card keeps it on screen though. Found that out later.
Actually would love to see a draft. They are so fun.
I started playing MTG like 10 years ago and you reminded me of how I used to get excited about this game. It's fun to see how a new player to the game has so much fun. Nice vid! :)
Im a huge mtg fan and id love to See more magic content on your chanel ❤️
OMG, I'm so glad someone other than me hates how fast the text disappears! AND they don't have a timeline of cards played to look at - it's so frustrating!
Just right click the card, it shows description indefinitely until you move your mouse away
Imagine Rarran facing real opponents and the first deck he comes across is a tibalts trickery lmao.
or you know any tribal or aggro decks
@@wowguy1243 ehhhh, way funnier to see him face a Tibalts trickery and the player manages to pull off a turn two Ugin
@@shade3385 that sounds terrifying
7:11 My man wasn't even playing "Do you know" and still got a card so wrong xD
Why is it bad in MTG? In HS, Backfire (3 mana draw 3, deal 3 to self) is good and sees alot of plays
@@RickyMuzakki
3 damage is a lot in mtg, expecially versus burn and aggro decks
Also, that's a sorcery spell, that means you can only cast it in your main phase, if you play it on curve you don't have open mana to play instants in your opponent's turn.
Decks the would want to play a card that does nothing but draw and pass are slow control decks that want to be reactive but turn 4 it's usually when you want to cast your aoe.
Blue cards does the same or better for the same cost and rarely you want to build a control without blue.
4 mana draws that saw play in standard are chemister's insight and behold the multiverse which are first of all instants and offer even better card advantage that drawing 3.
The real fun of magic is in person. I love the game but the social interaction is where it’s at.
I've never had a time where I went to a fnm where there either wasn't a sign/announcement or both that all participants must wear deodorant and so... So... SO many intentional slow players, doing the obscene in hand card shuffle on turn 2 with 1 land. YOU HAVE 1 FUCKING ISLAND IN PLAY
I’ve never been to fnm, and that sounds like a good thing.
@@christopherbronson3275 On the other hand, I've never seen any signs about that, and I go to FNM weekly. I suppose it varies by area.
@@simonteesdale9752 very likely
Can't wait to see if you do end up doing a draft. It's my favorite way to play as a long time player, and while the information load can be tough for new players it's typically one of the best and more fair ways to play since everyone is having to build their deck from the same resources.
So nice to see Rarran playing magic! I play Hearthstone since 2014, and past week I started to play MTG Arena, now I play waymore than I play Hearthstone. I reeally hope that you bring more contend about MTG to the channel xD
MTG is imo the best card game in paper or online. Would love to see more mtg content from you
it was not designed for online which bites them in the ass sometimes, but i think arena presents the game really well nonetheless.
Yessss, definitly want more of this content
Magic player here. Was very entertaining! Would 100% watch a part 2
With the time bank, it used to not be a thing, and there was a terror. That terror is called Nexus of Fate.

Shadowverse has REALLY nice pack opening animations
Love this series Rannon. Mtg player here
“Oh my God, relax!”
Ah yes, the classic response to a mono red player. You sir, are a natural.
Tip for the future, right click a card to get an enlarged version to read
Nice, doood. This is awesome, I went to Twitch just to see VOD of this. Hope that after Murder in HS you gonna stream MTG some more, this content is pretty POGGERS
The reason chat was pressuring you to attack that last turn againnst Bolas was because you had Tactical Advantage in hand. It's +2/+2 to target ATTACKING or blocking creature. You could swing, he can't block, pump one of yours to take it to lethal damage.
As a Yu-Gi-Oh player I enjoyed the top deck comment lol. Great content as usual!
Not sure if you read comments on videos that are multiple days old, but just in case, here's a heads up: The way WotC makes money with Magic is by releasing new decks/cards every 3 months or so, while phasing out the cards that came out (I think it was) two years prior. The reason you could not do standard play is because the mono-Black deck you got out of the Colour Challenge is about five years old by now, hence why you had to play Alchemy instead of Standard.
The Colour Challenge is basically the second part of the tutorial. You have to finish all 25 pre-scripted matches to unlock all five (now defunct) mono-coloured decks. The reason you want to do that anyways is that once you have done all of them, the game gives you 10 free dual-coloured "preconstructed decks" that do a good job of showing you what any given colour pairing does and are actually pretty good even if you don't modify them.
My recommendation? Do the remaining four Colour Challenges off-stream (may want to consult a walkthrough for one of the blue ones; if I remember correctly one of them is closer to a puzzle than anything) and do your first "proper" Standard match with one newly unlocked legal Standard deck of your choice the next time you stream this and get the gold you need for Quick Drafts from that. That way chat can help you get familiar with some mechanics of other colours than black as well.
It’s been so long since I played arena. I was just enjoying my king ghidora deck when it was top of standard. Then I needed to update and just never got around to doing that.
There is a keybind for holding the gamestate until you let go so you can read things, but I guess chat doesn't know that.
It always makes me happy to see players pick up better card games!
@@HighLanderPonyYT MtG is super expensive and predatory compared to HS tbh, especially if you start very late
I love this. So cool to see new players entering the game and seeing their impressions and how they think
I remember the OG MTGA infinite "roping". also there was a point in the match screen where you didn't have the timer and people would try to farm wins by making you wait unreasonable times before the match started. those problems got patched out quick.
You can right click on cards to bring up a big one that stays in place.
its very fun watching someone learn MTG.
good stuff
"one of us, one of us.." but nah seriously you gotta a funny attitude and I'd stick around to watch more magic. I subscribed when you put the identifying magic cards because I thought you had good energy. Peace ✌️
Magic is so fun < played hearthstone back in MoP while waiting for arena queues
From the prospective of someone who's played magic since 2005 these people play the game fast, loose, and wild. Using instant speed effects as fast as possible instead of waiting for a better timing, just jamming cards, running into removal. etc etc. Gotta love it
Ty for this a lot Rarran, this makes me want to jump back into MTGA even though there's a new HS expac lol
That was actually super fun to watch & sincerely hope you play more!
Always happy to see MTG content cross over to your channel :)
I'd love to watch that draft in the future.
This is awesome. I'm subbing in case he makes more honestly.
At this point I'm genuinely surprised you haven't played Eternal yet. I guess now it's a bit less popular than it used to be but still pretty solid! It feels like MTG that was streamlined for digital format with a bit of Hearthstone here and there. Definitely worth a shot, one of the more underrated CCGs out there
Hearthstone takes some interesting things from magic but it's sorta a "Once you understand the differences between them it's a lot easier for players of ether game to pick up the other". Glad to see you're starting to try and are even enjoying playing MTG.
Magic the Gathering will be good for your soul.
I don’t play Hearthstone, but I love Magic, so I’m excited to see you pick it up! Let me info-dump a little bit to show you some of the cool stuff.
You like Warlock in Hearthstone, so you’d probably feel at home using black cards. Black is really good at hard-killing creatures, and they focus on using alternative resources like health (and your own minions) to get extra value like Warlock does. There’s way more opportunities to get sacrifice value since Magic has no limit to the number of minions that can be on the board at once, so you can spam fodder to your heart’s content.
Also, don’t underestimate the power of Instant cards! They can be played *any* time you get priority, even if it’s not your turn! A classic Black trick is declaring a disposable minion as a blocker and using a card like Deadly Dispute to sacrifice it before damage is dealt. Weird Magic Shit means that the minion is still blocked (unless it has Trample) and you got extra value for free. Even without all the tricks, it’s generally best to avoid activating effects at “sorcery speed” (on your main phase) unless you absolutely have to. No need to reveal your hand until your opponent falls into your trap.
As a long time mtg player my frustrations learning the Arena client mirror yours. I just went back to paper lol.
I was thinking of getting into mtg, so it would be great to have a creator to follow the journey along!
Yay, glad to find out Rarran is just as slow a reader as I am
Rarran, if you complete at least 4 of the 5 color challenges, you unlock all the pvp gamemodes. One of these is jump in, where you can spend 1k gold to form a deck made of 2 half decks, its a very interesting sealed format and for new player can both teach you how to play certain colors/tribes and gives you a ton of cards, by far the most efficient way to obtain common and uncommon cards. I hope you keep it up with the mtg content
You can click the card being played (right click if I remember correctly) to see it better.
It would be really cool to see a Sealed Event of Dominaria United when it gets released.
Now we just got to get him into the vest format of all, commander
This is probably my favorite of your videos.
Why not do a collab with PVDDR again? Have him coach you through the game.
Imagine being that lucky
@@chuckwagon3718 I agree, one of the GOATs coaching you is a privilege. Also slightly overkill for a complete beginner. Still, it'd be a learning experince even for us in the audience who have been playing Magic for a while.
Rarran you HAVE to check out DUELYST 2
It just had its open server test this weekend and will have another one soon again.
Its a GEM of a Card/Strategy Game. Highly recommend trying out.
You playing magic with kibler would be good
This was both frustrating and funny. Please do this again, I’m begging you
Mtg is sick, happy you had fun trying it out.
Hexproof is actually the better version of the Faerie Dragon effect from HS, since Hexproof creatures can be targeted by friendly effects.
I'd recommend getting all 5 single color decks, and then if you do the daily challenges you get (on the home screen), you can unlock 10 dual colored decks (which are all for Alchemy)
Please please PLEASE play more Magic the Gathering, Rarran!!! By the way, you look fantastic today! ;)
Dude you should try commander sometime. It is a tabletop only format (I think?) your deck is basically a highlander deck with 100 cards, including a commander. This is a special creature and your deck revolves around it. Can also be played with up to 4 people at once!
Great seeing more people play mtg 😁
i love that they have you beat what is basically mtg's bbeg in the fucking tutorial. like going day one of pastor school and you have to fist fight satan.
also jace with a creature deck lol.
I feel like realistically he should just infinite by turn 2.
