    • @DavesWreaths
      @DavesWreaths  Před rokem

      Hi Bernadette, thank you so much. I am soooo happy to hear your first wreath come out looking good. YAY!!! Congrats on your first one!!! I showed how to do the twist as some people do like the twist to hold the burlap in place. Personally, I twist on the first and last ones, and that is it. I find that when the burlap is squished together tightly, like I have in my wreaths, it doesn't move or come out. If you do a looser ruffle, then I would suggest adding the twist. Hope that helps.

  • @kimberlysnell724
    @kimberlysnell724 Před rokem +1

    Can you use burlap for an outdoor wreath for cemetery decor? If so would a UV resistant spray work for weather proofing in addition to fade protection? And would you treat the burlap before making the wreath or after it’s completed? Thank you! I’m excited to try the ruffle method.

    • @DavesWreaths
      @DavesWreaths  Před rokem +1

      Hi Kimberly, thank you so much. I have not tried using UV resistant spray on burlap wreaths before. Sorry, I'm not sure how that would react/work. I usually only put my burlap wreaths on my front door, which is under a porch and no sunlight directly hits it. So it's been safe. However, I am not sure whether burlap would be able to withstand the elements in a cemetery. Burlap does fade with sunlight. I haven't tested it outside yet. If you're going to use a UV resistant spray, I would maybe contact the manufacturer and see if it has any effects on the burlap, or do a test piece and see how that works. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Take care.

    Hi Dave loving your tutorials . Question please how do u stop the poly mesh form fraying when you wind round your 7 inch cutting board and cut all together . It certainly would be a great time saver

    • @DavesWreaths
      @DavesWreaths  Před rokem

      Hi Clarissa. Thank you so much. I am so glad to hear your are liking my videos. Deco mesh tends to fray, that is the nature of the beast when working with deco mesh. That is just something that will always happen. When I do my little "trick" to cutting, it does fray, it's not a perfect method of cutting, but it does cut down on time. Usually I do this trick when I'm doing a curly loop wreath, that way the frayed edges are concealed when you roll up the mesh to make the curls. Other ways that you can reduce the amount of fraying is to use a burning tool when you cut your mesh - this comes with some warning though, best in a well ventilated area and use extreme caution as this is a hot tool. Some people use hairspray or a spray varathane to hold the mesh in place - I have never done this as I would think this may add a yellow hue to the finished product. For me, the best way is to use a base wreath method that hides the fraying, like he curly loop, ruffle, or bubble methods all work really well. I don't mind the fraying, it's something I just got used to when working with deco mesh. I hope that helps a bit....thanks so much and take care.

      Thankyou Dave yes I do have a wood burning pen . But burning through that much I’m a bit nervous I will burn myself . Thankyou for the tip for good ventilation . I used yesterday for 4 hours and didn’t realise I needed well ventilation .it was the curly loop one I wanted to have a crack at. I’m in New Zealand and don’t have access to a lot of the materials needed so it’s challenging .But I am enjoying your tutorials and very easy to understand . So Thankyou

    You make this look so easy. I watched another video on ho to make th bubble look and I wish I had seen yours first. It was much easier to follow because she seemed to make it a little more difficult than ho you explained it. She used wire and y burlap just wouldn’t hold that well. Mine didn’t look right, I seemed to have it a little tighter and fuller in different areas. I am going to follow your video when I make my next one and I’m so excited to try to make the ruffle one. I’m going to try that one before I do another bubble one. Thank you for your video. I can’t wait to try it.

    • @DavesWreaths
      @DavesWreaths  Před 2 lety

      Hi Nancy...I had used 5" width by 10yrd rolls for these burlap wreaths. You should be totally fine with your couple of 5 yards rolls. Plus, if the burlap is fairly thick, you can get away with doing a looser ruffle or bubble and use less. 🤗 The yellow sounds amazing...I'm jealous!! LOL. Thank you so much and have a great day.

    What are the measurements for the roll of burlap you use in this video?

    • @DavesWreaths
      @DavesWreaths  Před 2 lety

      Hi Felicia....for each roll of burlap it is 5" wide and 10 yards long. I usually have two bundles on hand just in case I need it. I tend to use about one and a half rolls to make the wreath full. If you wanted to make the wreath less dense, then one roll would work. It's a personal preference. Hope that helps. 😁

    Did you twist the burlap just that one time?

    • @DavesWreaths
      @DavesWreaths  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Hi Laurel, yes, I twisted it the once to show that method. I don't twist my burlap usually for this method as I find it adds a lot of bulk to the back of the wreath and when I do mine, I fill it to capacity so the bundles don't fall out. If you're doing less bundles, then I would twist at each turn to make sure it stays put. 😊
