I'm a trainer and that was possibly the BEST explanation of how and why it's important to get contact when driving to the basket. I'm stealing this drill. Great video.
@@amritdhaliwal4271 Pinning down is legal if you square your opposite shoulder up with your defender's side you're attacking; because when you tightly lock your shoulder with his, both of your bodies are very close to each other to a point where there is not enough room for you to over extend or elongate your off arm. In other words, if you don't outright push off then pinning down is legal. If you try to dribble around your defender and attempt the pin down move you're likely to get called for an offensive foul because his hips are still mobile enough to freely open up and slide back in front of you; and in order for you to prevent the defender from cutting off your drive, you have placed yourself in a situation where you will over extend your off arm because there is too much space between you and your defender. From this position you really have to go out of your way to make effective bodily contact with him, which would lead to pushing off.
If I am wrong or what I say does not make sense someone who understand s pinning down better than I please feel free to correct me. In the meantime I hope what i said helps.
kyleiskooking no, it's only a foul if you grab their arm, moving it is fine. When initiating contact, you must also remember to hit them in the side, as this way you are not the definition of a charge and it is not a foul
This is amazing. What I can never understand was how to use my big body in getting past players. I have no speed at all. I'm 6'2" 220lbs with no athleticism but I have a wide body and pretty strong. I always wanted to learn how to be physical when driving to beat my defender and this has been my answer.
Absolutely one of the hardest things to teach young players. Fantastic video. Would love more on contact!!! Thank you! Your videos are always clear, concise and educational, sharing with my players.
this is great. i always avoided the contact. but this may be one of the best vids out right now because everyone in my generation just wants to dribble. thanks bro!
Been coaching for 20 yrs in my country. All levels. Coaching is a patchwork, and we all steal like from each other, which I'm all for Gonna steal this! :D blatantly, but as the guy says below; it's a goldmine. Great work, coach The phrase you were looking for is: you play "chess", and he be playing checkers, once you master this ;)
What if you don't have a partner? This is literally a treasure beneath a bunch of wacks. No fancy moves, just "veteran moves" (separates good to great). I've always been the athletic guy, but I can't utilize it because I avoid contact. I'll use this. Shoulder, arm, footwork, physical. Got it.
Man I wish we had CZcams when I was growing up. You get access to the best coaches and drills. I had coaches that screamed a lot but didn't really teach us much. `
Coach you have any links on how this looks live.....I am going to watch this a few more times to understand it...........you have some great great work and you explain it VERY well.
Great video Homie! I'm a basketball trainer as well and I must say you are most definitely elite. I love your teaching method and I can tell you have a passion for this. Keep doing your thing man! God bless
im 14, 5”11, with lonnggggg arms my freinds say i have a build similar to kd. i just need to learn to play with contact because its part of the next leval pf basketball, if i start doing it now ill be one of the best in my age group. i can touch rim and finish with a soft touch once i learn to control my body with contact and if i dont get scared of other players i WILL be competeing at high levels
5:30 is there any good way to defend push off?. There is many offense videos but I can’t find any good info on how to play defense against push off. I played against a guy who was very active with off hand and push offs. It was difficult to guard.
i been looking for something like this for forever. everybody else gives me wack concepts but this advanced and i like it and can't wait to start using it, thank you my man!
So are u allowed to bump into the defender if you don't extend your arm or lower your shoulder? What's the difference between initiating contact and a charge?
im kind of new to ball so i don't know what counts as any offensive fouls or whatever but is using your arm to push away a defender or a defenders arm away a foul in anyway? not like use my hand to push but like my forearm or tricep area. Pls reply thanks! Great vid btw
Don't extend the forearm too far and always try to use it on a defender who's moving his feet. It's hard for a ref to claim that the defender had legal guarding position if they were still in motion.
Look man, I need some tips coz my defender is always at the paint. When I attack the basket, he moves backwards so I can't attack. I'm not a shooter so I can't shoot it while he's in the paint
This will not work if your defender is bigger or stronger. Great move , but I see this working only on a defender that's weaker then you. Its still an better option to shift your defender one direction and go the opposite direction.
Me Appear the move is bullet proof...it doesn't matter who the defender is...initiating contact...pinning the arm done and attacking the shoulder will work on all types of defenders if you master the technique....watch any pro guard and you'll see them use this technique....keep the questions coming and sorry for the late response
Most referees will allow it because once you get that close, you can argue that the locking of the arms is due to to you trying to swing your arms to gain speed but the defenders arm is there.
Attack the shoulder and your fine...either the defender will open up or the ref will have to call foul...watch guys like wade harden and cp3....they do this all the time..it's definitely a cheat move but everyone does it
Marv Fox Jr. i tried this and its real easy to drive now haha, no moves needed, like a simple jab and i can go. one thing i noticed though is what if the defenders arms are almost to you chest/head level? do you still try to bring it down?? anyways thanks a lot for the answer
+PUGE “PUGEPUGEPUGE” BUY what usually do if it's not a pick up game is rip through their arms, almost always draw a foul that way. but during pick up games don't really call fouls so just fight through the contact
try it man, most of the time they also open up so it doesn't really cause a charge. instead, its like a super straight/tight angle to the rim without no chance for the defender to get around. in my experience, it usually results to a contact layup so you have a chance of getting fouled while nullifying the shotblock cos they can't jump
Districtone_ swipe or pin down quickly...don’t grab...we grab in the video to train the off-hand to be active on the drive...plus in game time situations the action happens so quick you shouldn’t have time to really grab...makes sense....I’ll address this in my next video....
What happens when the defender is in a legal guarding position and the offensive makes or initiates contact. When the offensive player reaches and holds a defensive player's arm that is truly an offensive foul( player control).
remeber... youre not attacking the center of the body, you're attacking the shoulder and hips...attacking the hips and shoulder help you to avoid offensive fouls and the grab during the drill is only for drill purposes to help the offensive player become familiar with using thier off hand...in a game the grab is really just a quick swipe not a grab and hold...
Romans 10:9-10 "That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved."
Thanks for teaching how you get offensive fouls. Smacking and pinning arms with your off hand. Pushing/shoving the defender off. Might as well show them how to throw elbows and draymond nut shots lol. Terrible video.
Knowing how to play with contact is what separates average players to great players. Nice vid.
great fact
With every sport besides baseball and prolly soccer
I'm a trainer and that was possibly the BEST explanation of how and why it's important to get contact when driving to the basket. I'm stealing this drill. Great video.
Unlimited Range Productions take what you want... my goal is to produce content worth sharing
You are a basketball genius... And it doesn't go unnoticed that you don't waste our time with meaningless sentences and just cut to the chase. Thanks
Haseeb Kiani exactly man. I thought the same

Marv Fox Jr. is pinning down legal? Also what is legal for the defender as of contact, what contact is legal

This video even after all these years is still an amazing explanation of how beneficial playing on contact can be. Mad work

In my place , once u start a body contact it gets really physical to all of us LMFAO
One of the BEST Basketball channels on CZcams #HandsDown ......keep it coming Marv Fox (you went o a hiatus for a bit LOL)
This is real deal.

rslim5 thanks for the recognition...I’m working on finding cooler concepts to teach that are not only cool but fundamental and necessary to the game.
this was very helpful
great vid
Outstanding drill
Thank ya so much for this man. Finally, a genuine, knowledgeable and simple video that isn't just a promo! Thank you tons

Yessir.
thank you
So this is why i had trouble blowing by my defenders and why i always get cut off by a defender
Teach me ☺️👋🏾‼️
this a great vid!
Didn't expect that dunk lol
He’s 6’6 with descent size hands….dunked in me all the time…during drills!!! Lol
Better than shot mechanics
Look man, I need some tips coz my defender is always at the paint. When I attack the basket, he moves backwards so I can't attack. I'm not a shooter so I can't shoot it while he's in the paint
Lambo Guy get better at shooting
You need to get better shooting, when you got that, the defender is gonna step up to contest you shot, and you can attack
the problem is my defender does not want me to take the contact
This will not work if your defender is bigger or stronger. Great move , but I see this working only on a defender that's weaker then you. Its still an better option to shift your defender one direction and go the opposite direction.
Hey Life ? You should watch the nba more...it works ...trust...but I appreciate your critique...thanks for he comment
Thanks Man Iwill continue to add this to my game

Both of those moves are offensive player control fouls. First one is a hook and the second one is a push off.
I love this video!! But aren't some of these move technically fouls? 😛
❤❤🙏🤤😲🇩🇴🇺🇲
are you allowed to grab the defender's arm?
Most referees will allow it because once you get that close, you can argue that the locking of the arms is due to to you trying to swing your arms to gain speed but the defenders arm is there.
it's not cheating if they don't call the foul right?
Nope. James Harden and multiple others do it all the time.
alright thanks
Great video, but why the white boy looks so nervous? ahaha
Fire🔥
No one does this better Steph Curry
are u dum look at kyrie
dumb* stupid shit. theyre both great at it, think kyries a lot better at it, simply because that's his specialty.
I don’t understand what he’s trying to mean at his first drill
Push off???
louiv santana yes....but it’s legal because I didn’t extend 😉
wont you get called for a charge though?? im worried defenders might fall on their backs and you get called for a foul

Lix Domingo naw....it’s 10ft...my guy tree is 6’6....so it looks real easy
Marv Fox Jr. Oh. Thought was 8 alright.
isn't it a foul if you smack away your opponent's hand with your off hand like that?
Sai Yan Cheng Yes, but sometimes basketball is less about what you're allowed to do and more about what you can get away with.
My man in the gray look constipated af lmao. But good vid tho
This is a good fucking video, tired of the videos trying to teach kids how to do the Kyrie and curry crossovers that don't get anyone better.
Thanks fam...I'm gonna get back to filming soon

So... this is a foul, hooking your opponent and getting an illegal advantage. You can play with no deffenders if you want to play like that.
