    Have you familiarized yourself with history of Estonia? We have been constantly invaded, enslaved and bullied. People here have always been simple living and not wanting to poke their noses into others business nor theirs into ours. So in part this is almost genetic and collective memory. There's a healthy dose of "trust has to be earned" kind of thinking widely, nothing is granted.
    We are very individualistic, there is a function and a place for this kind of living in this world, not all must be open and accepting to everything new and exotic, that includes human relations.
    And take note that i'm not trying to justify downright bad behavior or racism. I'm an Estonian myself, in my 30s and only have a couple true friends. I have absolutely no need for more or feel sad in that regard. I've never dated with strangers, met my partner and got to know her before making the big step. I was raised in a way that nothing has to be forced upon myself unless i really want it. We are a forest people and in the forest everything you do has to be thought through as not to disturb others around you. We absolutely hate being a burden to others and have a deep need of independence. Hope this describes Estonians to you a little bit more.
    Tallinn is wholly another concrete jungle though! :D It does not carry the true Estonian spirit. I've lived in the capital 10+ years and am planning to go back to inland.

      @@JesuChristus And how can you be sure of that? I mean, it is what it is, you cant prove it to be either true or false and that is the core of religion, its a matter of faith. And who am i to judge someone whos moral compass or sense of self is rooted in their faith.
      That being said, if you have a bone to pick then institutions tied to various religions is another story. They are afterall run by people and people are not perfect. I would argue that nobody is ''elevated'' to a position where they have the authority to say ''I know what happens after death'' -that is a bunch of hogwash! • @haanjamiis

    As an atheist (coming from mildly religious family), I don't get the need for religion. If you crave for some kind of community, you'll IMO better off searching for a community connected to you hobbies. Ofc if you don't have any hobbies, then it's harder. THere's a good quote about religion that I like.
    “That's what the gods are! An answer that will do! Please give us a simple answer, so that we don't have to think, because if we think, we might find answers that don't fit the way we want the world to be.”
    ― Terry Pratchett, Nation
    But I want the interesting answers. I wan't to say honestly to some things that: "Yes we don't have definite answer to that. Yet.". Also I don't want to live in a world were "god" is inflicting such suffering to people. Killing people, children slowly. Cancer, freaking worms coming out from eyeballs etc. If there is a god, it's freacking psychopath. Religion has been and still is used for controlling masses. For pitting "us vs them". Reason for killing "them" because "they" don't believe in the same imaginary friend. It's used for suppressing women and LGBT.

      Also, realize God didn’t cause suffering and evil in the world, in Christianity it’s blatantly clear humans have caused this disaster, this is why Jesus is even important in theology. And I wonder how a group of 12 people wanted to control masses when they were each getting jailed, executed, and shunned from society?

    • @ingelkringel

      I was an Atheist and very much against religion and Christianity. I was thinking similarly to you. Never even had read the bible, never had been to church.
      However, I ended up finding God through searching for the truth, without any agenda but trying to simply find if truth even existed and if my life has any meaning. And also trying to prove a close relative that God does not exist. I realised how little I know about how the world works, and started thinking deeply about particle- and astrophysics. Also asked questions about the nature of language, concepts like love, justice, etc from various philosophical and scientific angles... Asked why there is something rather than nothing, etc.
      One night as I was thinking again about particle spins and the Universe... It was like a click. In less than a a blink of a second I knew that God existed and that He is a person (not just some energy), holding the Universe together, through Him and towards Him everything is. I didn't know what kind of God it is, so after I calmed down from the shock a bit, I asked "But how do I know what kind of God you are?" In my heart I heard a silent answer "It is the God X believes in, the God the bible talks about". A few days later I opened the bible for the first time in my life and it was like alive... Every page I turned to. It was only after that that I started to get to know Jesus and eventually made the decision to accept Him into my life.
      Science and faith have never since that time conflicted for me.
      I needed to make sense of things for myself, inquire, start trusting logical thinking, and have 'proof'. God knew this is what I needed in order to believe in Him. God knows what each person needs, that is why there are so many different stories of why people come to believe in God.
      Also, there is no use in pitting science against religion, or calling the religious books "fairy tales". If you look at the history of religions, you will see most world religions have at least some basis in reality / real lived experiences of people and historical happenings/events. But you will also soon see not all their claims can be true at the same time, despite similarities in certain principles. We need to look at ALL the evidence and make sense of ALL the information together - from hard sciences and social science, and all of human experience, and history. However, even then, it is wise to accept that human mind/intellect is limited, and ultimately, a lot of faith is based on revelation on the spiritual level (btw, the bible says God is a Spirit).
      In line with these thoughts, I would like to share one of my favorite passages from the bible, which explains this line of thoughts.
      1 Corinthians chpt. 1:18-25:
      18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written:
      “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise;
      the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”
      20 Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 22 Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24 but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.
      Final thoughts on suffering - God is not causing suffering. It's our sin that is. We live in a fallen world, where humans have crowned their own self and their own mind above God. It's our rebellion against God and us giving room to the enemy of our souls - the Satan, a fallen angel and his demons. God gives us free will! Love cannot exist without freedom and God is love (1 John 4:16).
      If you want to see demons being kicked out of people by the name of Jesus and in His power (just like Jesus did in the bible, and just like His followers did then and are doing now), there are thousands of videos on CZcams and many books you could read and just talk to real Christians who know God.

    Religion is a strange aspect of human psychology. I actually managed to grow up believing that religions went extinct during the age of Enlightenment and steam engines. How is it possible to grow up believing something like that? Well, of course, I knew that different religions existed and I considered myself to be a Christian as well. The difference is, that i assumed that when people say that they are religious( Christian, Muslim, Hindu etc ) they mean that they follow those traditions( like Christmas, burial/wedding practices and so on). I never thought that anyone in the 21st century would believe the actual fairy tales in the books. I mean, you can just read the books yourself and see that they are... let's put it nicely...very primitive. Usually 7-8 year old will already see through the deception in the books. So, for me, it was quite a shock when I started to explore this topic on CZcams and found out that when people say that they are Christians, they actually believe all the crazy stuff from the ancient cult leaders.(check out westbro baptist church) It took a years to start to understand how religions work and why grownups can't get out once they have been indoctrinated into some religion. Even if they know that their religion is a lie, they still feel the need to stick with it. Religions have many built in psychological firewalls and defenses that it's very difficult to even think about leaving your religion. On top of that, religions build a web of "OCD" like behaviors based on incessant repetition of some action or phrase. On top of that, is a layer of guilt and under that is a threat of hell. On top of that, religions fuse with people's personal relations, so that when you give up religion, you must also give up many of your best friends( or even your parents/children). Mormons take the cake in this category. In addition to all that, religions rely on and encourage self-isolation from everyone else. I.e you can be a Christian and never really have to deal with other religions or atheists. You have your own Christian schools, your own Christian bands, your own Christian tv shows, your own Christian neighborhoods, Christian politicians and so on and on. If you come to Estonia, take the time to revisit your prior beliefs about everything. Imagine you were born here and have never heard of your religion before. Just play this mind game. Imagine that someone knocks on your door and starts to sell you the old testament. "hey, you know this guy who lived 2000 years ago? No? Well, there was this guy and he saw visions after climbing on top of a mountain and he believed that someone was talking to him. Anyways, hundreds of years after he died, someone wrote down stories about stories about that guy and i want you to believe everything those guys wrote thousands of years ago. Also, i want some of your money and i also need to have some control over you. From now on, i will tell you with whom you can have sex with, when and how you can have sex with. I will also tell you what you can eat, drink and do with your free time. Sounds like a really good deal ... right?"
    Would you fall for the religion if it was delivered to you like this now....as an adult?

      And your reasons to deny 4 historical accounts are because they are old? I could say this about everything! Also Jesus is completely different from writing stories hundreds of years later. The 4 canon accounts were written in the same century that Jesus and eye witnesses lived, not after the generation had died giving chance to myths.

    • @UninstallingWindows
      @UninstallingWindows Před rokem

      @@bikesrcool_1958 The reason to deny 4 "historycal" accounts is that they are insane. Its that simple. Every culture has its own mythology. Christian mythology is nothing special. It just became more popular than others because it was useful to the ruling elites. The 4 canon accounts were written almost a century after jesus died. Noone wrote down anything while the guy was suposedly alive, meaning that his entire life could be made up...or be a composite of many people rolled into one. There is no way for anyone to verify anything miraculous in the bible and none of the biblical stuff is original either. Jesus was born of a virgin, like many mythological "god" characters before. He was a guy claiming to speak for god....like many before him, and countless after him. If jesus existed today, you would not believe him and you would tell him to go fuck himself. Why? Because there are hundreds of Jesus'es roaming the earth right now. Claiming to perform miracles. Some even had thousands of folowers...not just 12. It all boils down to the simple thins i mentioned in my original comment. God is not stupid. God would, by definition, have to be smarter than humans. If i ( or you ) can come up with a better way to spread a message than whispering it to 1 guy, in one language, in one tribe, and have it get translated and mangled through various interpretations, over 2000 years, then you would have disproved the bible( or quran, or the book of mormons ) . Give god some god damn credit. Dont treat him like a moron.

      Certainly have not changed. Some Christians don't think being gay is sin, but majority still hold the view that practicing homosexuality is sin and that sexual intercourse is sacred and reserved for marriage between one man and one woman. It is possible to be religious and not even know God. A lot of people hold on to religious traditions, maybe even believe something, but have never met God, repented from their sin and got the freedom God wants to give.
