  • China is known as the "country of jade" and has a history of making jade for more than 7,000 years. In ancient society, jade was not only used for decoration, but also a symbol of wealth and power, and a magical object for rulers to sacrifice to heaven and earth and communicate with gods.
The Ancient Chinese Jade Museum is located on the fourth floor of the Shanghai Museum. The exhibits in the museum are arranged in order of historical chronology and are divided into six parts: prehistoric, Xia, Shang and Zhou, Spring and Autumn and Warring States, Han and Jin, Tang, Song, Liao, Jin, Yuan, Ming and Qing. Mainly used for decoration and jade, it succinctly summarizes the development and artistic style of Chinese jade from ancient times to the late imperial period, and at the same time shows the ancient Chinese society behind the jade.
