In the Trunks special, at least in the manga, he was an entire year without fighting the androids probably because of his injuries, and considering there are no senzu beans anymore, he probably didn't get many zenkais or even fought the androids that many times, to begin with

Problem isn't that he didn't have any Zenkais. The problem is that his body had gotten so worn out that by the time of training Trunks, he was basically stuck.

@@brandenapexo604 Honestly he probably did get a zenkai boost but like you have to realize how STRONG the androids actually were. In the manga its mentioned that Future Gohan has only been able to force them to fight at half power despite everything. Future Trunks said before that the present androids were way stronger but its more likely that he has just never forced them to fight seriously in the future.
Gohan was foolish to rush in and fight those andriods. He should have let those people die that day...because reason 1 - gohan knew he was gonna die...meaning all those people were doomed anyway, if they didn't die today then they will be hunted down tomorrow.
Reason 2 - gohan still has a duty to protect and train trunks.
Reason 3 - gohan knew about bulma's time machine theory and should have stuck around to see that become a reality.

I always loved Future Gohan because of how cool he was, it didn't matter it was a losing fight he still didn't back down. A nice detail that made me like him even more was in one of the ps2 games(BT3 I think?) his moveset was various techniques from the Z warriors like the Special Beam Cannon, it made me feel like he was carrying the legacy of his dead friends.

In the anime version of the history of Trunks, future Gohan did seem more evenly matched with the androids individually by the time Trunks started fighting the androids. By the time of future Gohan's final battle, I would argue that Gohan was at least powerful enough to fight the androids individually, but not together.
Then Toriyama just had to rub some more salt in the wound when he wrote his excerpt on the History of Trunks in the manga, saying that the androids were fighting at half power the entire time

I like the idea that some fans have where Future Gohan first went super saiyan after Piccolo died, I think that makes the most sense.
Probably never even fought them as a kid. Likely trained as much as he could before he got old enough, then challenged them.
If he fought them as a kid I can't see him doing any worse than Krillin and Tien in terms of power.

He then attempted to quickly collect the dragon balls to save the Earth before Piccolo was killed by the andriods, but then the pilaf gang used the dragon balls instead and wished for their youth, putting the eternal dragon to rest for a year. Before the Dragon Balls could be used again, Piccolo was killed. So in other words, the pilaf gang screwed the ENTIRE future timeline. (Also, this bonus chapter is when Baby Future Trunks first meets Future Mai. They are both babies after the pilaf gang wishes for their youth).

I’ve always theorized that most warriors hit a power limit and their growth will plateau at many points.
Power level is derived from Ki, and Ki is an aspect of the mind and the spirit just as much as the body.
Gohan’s power reached an impassable wall because he lacked the guidance of his mentors, and lost hope or belief in himself.
I'm glad Dokkan took wind of this and was like "Hold up lemme cook real quick with this new LR Future Gohan (Super Saiyan)"

To the point on a super Saiyan getting affected by glass I’ve always considered the barrier they put around themself to be more of a defense against ki than the physical damage. Ones ki can be “flexed” to enhance their durrability Al especially against substantially weaker opponents. So like tanking 20 punches from someone is feasible due to the attacks being expected and therefore defended, but being sent flying through a building and through glass hurts more because the attack was fast and strong enough to catch them off guard. This is disproven all the time but like my mind has to explain this bs somehow
I have a similar head cannon but also chalk it up to Gohan’s main motivation for fighting is cause there’s no one else he’s so out of his element and still steps up 😤

In the manga, it was even more unfair for gohan. When Gohan knocks out trunks for his final battle against 17 and 18, they only show 17 charging forward before cutting back to trunks waking up to find his body later. The anime really did tell the story of trunks better than the manga, which is wild to me.

Another thing to mention is that in this timeline he probably never learned super Saiyan from goku and probably had to learn it himself also in general Gohan has always fought slightly blind because he needs glasses, and on top of all that he was fighting with one arm. He's badass but I think what was his downfall was that he never tried training trunks. If you're fighting 2 people and keeping up with super Saiyan. Trunks and him probably could've beaten them.

Outside the manga and games, anime Future Gohan was putting in the work against the androids during that final fight.
Notice how every fight 17 is involved with, the fiercest ones are always ran. Piccolo, the 1v1 and 2v1 against Gohan, bro's always cooking. The screen shakes and heavy hits before 18 jumped in was clean.
17 was low key a mvp in the tournament of power too lol. 17 just got that dawg in him 💪🏿
My headcanon is that Gohan at some point knew he could reach a higher level of power. He was scared of that power though like original timeliness. So it was a mental battle on his part.

Lots of people are saying "but zenkai boosts!" to which I say that zenkai only applies when the saiyan is beaten to *near death* - the show often makes it seem fairly common but it's not unlikely that Future Gohan only ever got beaten unconscious by the Androids i.e. he didn't get many (or even any) boosts bc the Androids never tried to kill him.
Which makes sense because... if the Androids *had* beaten him to *near death*, there wouldn't have been anyone to save him and make sure he recovered. It would actually make *less* canonical sense for Gohan to get zenkais simply because he doesn't have anyone looking after him or tagging in when he gets beaten. If the Androids ever beat him to near death and left him alive, he'd probably die from his injuries not long after that.

My personal theory is that Gohan didn't fought that many times. In no point it's suggested that he fought against them in regular basis, I think he calculated carefully when to face them. Bringging a kid to the fight was the error that finished him. Altought, It's not easy being a Sayan and having to hide from machinery.
