Move to Mexico to Make the Next 20 Years Count
I absolutely love your opening statement!!! That is exactly why I am moving to La Cruz in two weeks because I don't want to keep living the same life for the next 20 years!!
That's awesome! Here's a toast to your next 20 years!
Brighton, thanks for not making me nearly as cringe as i thought I'd be. And thanks for having me on the best channel for moving to Mexico and contemplating the big life questions.
Thank you Matthew! We failed to mention your street dog vision. Next time :-)
Hard to fault a dog lover. I think your calm demeaner is a large reason for this well made video. Brighton may have had something to do with that too though.
@@davebaker489 Oh - this is "AI" Matthew. He was a raging lunatic when I filmed the video. But then I put it into ChatGPT and told the AI to make Matthew look calm and helpful and this is what came out...
@@AlmostRetiredinMexico SSsssure you did. I guess all of the Tube is now AI generated by now. They don't need you contributors anymore . Like politicians they'll just make it up as they go.
@@AlmostRetiredinMexico SSsssure it was.
We met Mark last week and viewed his lovely home with our agent Ian. Very nice guy and beautiful home. We are currently purchasing another home in Lomas. Been visiting Mexico for the past 33 years and now want to make it a permanent home in El Centenario.
Oh, you can tell by looking at him that Matthew has embraced the more chill lifestyle of Mexico! I wish we all could be as astute as he was about changing our way of living as early as he did!
Thank you, Cindy! The secret is all the vitamin D here. I will probably look like a raisin in a couple more years, but a happy raisin!
Cheers to becoming a raisin!
This was really enjoyable to watch Brighton. Lovely home and agreeable guest. Nice to see people happy and healthy!
Thanks for the feedback Kate! I haven't published an interview in a bit. More to come!
I’ve watched so many of your videos but rarely comment. Thanks for all the great content! I’m a fellow Oregonian and have dreamed of moving to Mexico for years. Have you considered more meet ups or seminars in Portland for those interested in relocating to Mexico?
Thanks for reaching out. Can you email me (brighton@gen-mex.com) and I'll put you on a list to notify when I do something in Portland this summer? I'll probably have a few meetups. Where in Oregon are you?
Thanks for responding! I’m in the Tillamook area. I’ll drop you an email 😊
I added your book to my Libby app asking the library to obtain so I can read it
I love this important question. Great interview! Looking forward to the next one about moving with kids.
Yes! The kid one will come soon, but it’s gonna be a monster to edit, so it will take some time to finish.
Great question, my husband and I are working diligently to get to our goal of spending this coming winter in La Paz. Loved this interview. Thank you Brighton!😃
That's a great goal! I hope to meet you next winter!
@@AlmostRetiredinMexico We hope to meet you as well!
Great interview and a great person to interview. Nice House too. Funny thing Pam has written a book and a half. However unpublished so far. It seems before they will publish you have to find a publisher that can and will read. Until that happens they don't even reject it they just stay silent. Let me repeat another grrrrrrr8 interview. 👍👍👍
Thanks Dave. And best to luck to Pam finding a publisher!
@@AlmostRetiredinMexico Thanks and She'll need it.
Wow, that book....he sure nailed down his niche. I am trying hard to figure out what my best niche is for a book.
You never disappoint brighton, I met Mattew a couple years ago just cruising up the street in my s x s, he was in the state of moving if I remeber correctly, super engaging, glad things worked out
That's great - so I assume you live up on the hill in El Centenario?
I ❤ the question you are posing here. Is my life really what I want it to be? We so rarely stop and ask that because we are too busy immersed in the day to day of what we do to survive.
Yes Lynn! I'm starting to consider asking myself if I want the next hour of my life to be like the last hour!
$430K??? Premium price for standard gringo hacienda! Green friendly homes reduce waste, costs, pollution, environment impact, etc. Solar and water distribution systems are basic starting points. Unless you love hot weather, lose the six burner stove, which only serves to increase cooling costs. Induction stoves are cool to touch and do not add heat and pollution to the area, again basic knowledge, unless you like paying high AC Bills to compensate for gas! Think people! Buenos Dias!
Congrats on your book. I’ll look for it Sounds good
I need to do the same. Especially because I’m from Milwaukee!
Thank you! I promise it's a good read! Or your money back.😂
Hi from Oaxaca Mexico 🇲🇽 ❤😊
Hello - I may make it to Oaxaca this summer. It’s been on my “places to visit” list for a while now.
The low maintenance yard is nice!
Definitely! Thanks for watching
GRrrr8 interview. Must have been easy to do with such a clear forthcoming guest. Really nice house too. Keep em coming Mr B. P n D
Thanks Dave!
@@AlmostRetiredinMexico PS The other comment disappeared this morning so I added this 1.
I'm so sorry I cant come to see Morelia. I don't make the monetary statutes. My heart is ready.
Do you mean the income requirements for residency? They have really increased recently. You can be a tourist for up yo 6 months at a time tho!
I had planned to go south with my TT and then they raised the income level past my SS level...just under $1300mo.
So I've decided to go solar first and off-grid living later.
@@AlmostRetiredinMexico That's what we are doing. There is an RNE program you can possibly qualify for after some time in Mex.
As someone thinking about moving to la Paz with my 7 year old daughter, I’m very interested in the family moving video
Very good. I’ve interviewed 3 families, so that video is gonna take some time to edit! But you can expect it this summer.
@@AlmostRetiredinMexico sounds great I hope it comes before I go down there in June for a couple weeks with the family
@@jacobsavage563let me see what I can do. Reach out to Matthew at @streetdogsofbaja on CZcams. And check out the Mamas Group La Paz BCS on Facebook.
OMG, I so need this! I work in a well paid management position. We are waiting for our small condo in La Paz to get built, but I’ve been actively thinking about how I can pretire…. Well timed! 😊
Definitely get down to enjoy that condo sooner rather than later! Which development is it?
We’ll be in Vista Los Suenos. Thanks to your videos, we met Chanel Graham and, like you and Kat, decided to buy on our first trip down. Can’t wait to see videos about Kay’s garden in Portland. Am very jealous!
@@katdat1I went to a party at Vista Los Sueños - amazing sunset views! And it’s so close to the malecón. A lot of places on that hill are really disconnected because of the streets, but the one you’re in is perfect!
I’ll be sure to tour Kat’s garden at its peak!
I’m not seeing the video mentioned about moving to Mexico with children. If anyone can find it and tell me the title or link it, I’d greatly appreciate! 🙏
Can you tell me what the water situation is in La Paz? I was going to Mexico City but they are very low or in some places, don't have any.
Water situation isn’t good here either. The aquifer is shrinking. And development continues. The good news is that La Paz can desal ocean water in the future…
@@AlmostRetiredinMexico Thx for your quick reply. Love the channel.
@@AlmostRetiredinMexico Water desal is a grrrr8 option I F someone is willing to spend the money and the problem of what to do with the excess salt. There are only so many tequila glasses you can coat the rims of with salt.
Jajajaja.... We are living, working and traveling central Mexico in our little 28' RV to experience all the towns to decide where we'd like to call "home base".... On a very small budget. This guy has way more pesos than we do!
To be honest, LaPaz really accommodates any budget. My next-door neighbor and friend Kody rented his house with a huge yard for 12,000 pesos a month. The beauty of LaPaz is whatever your lifestyle and the WMI (what's most important) fits here. The mostly free outdoor experiences here are second to none. If you want to spend 1000 pesos on a meal here you can. You can also spend 75 pesos for an equally good meal. Come hang out in LaPaz during your travels. You will love it!
I agree with Matthew - you can find something to fit any budget in La Paz. Just depends on what's important. The further from other expats, the lower the price will be. You could even just buy a piece of land and build a small addition to your RV.
That said, the mainland is definitely more affordable overall.
Gorgeous house. Can any of haters reference something equal for half the price
Thank you!!!
Thanks for informative video. Brighton, I mentioned in one of your previous videos if you would consider doing a video on what are the costs associated with selling a home in Mexico.
Great video idea! I'll add it to the list - and connect with a realtor o made that video. I know there are capital gains taxes if you don't have an exemption. And I've heard about capital loss taxes (some kind of anti-fraud tactic.)
Where is he moving?
About a mile further up the hill in the same town
Something to consider: when ur kids graduate they will hit a wall. Will they work in mexico for 400 pesos a month? How will they afford a car? The expat children suffer for years to come.
Really? Do you have experience with someone this happened to?
@@AlmostRetiredinMexico yep, or else i wouldnt say it. Its hard enough for gen z in america to get a job. Is your teenage kid going to work at a taco stand after high school?
I would say it really depends on how you measure success. I personally know architects, bankers, lawyers, builders, and marine biologists who were all educated here in BCS and have very successful careers. No, they don't make as much as their counterparts in the US, but the costs aren't even close. Mexico is a growing economy and has a noticeable emerging middle-class. Not to mention, expat kids are usually fully bilingual , something most US kids are not. I think they have a bright future. If they work for it. As it should be for all children.
Nepotism is crushing the American work ethic, but what else would you expect from the tiktok generation supported with baby boomers unlimited funding?
Public college is free in Mexico, and yes, while salaries are low compared to the US, and the vast majority of Mexicans don't live in $430K USD homes, you can live a very nice life in Mexico on a professional Mexican salary.
Let's see the other home! 😂
Sorry - his family and dogs were there, so filming would have been rough. And I’m back in the US now. :-(
Is this click bait?😮
How?
