    Hey Gary. After doing a lot of research on the best entry level mic I decided on Rode and I just got mine delivered. I was lucky enough to grab it as a boxing day special for only $120 so I'm well pleased. I'm impressed with the quality & overall packaging etc too. I wanted to make sure I was doing the right things with it so I popped online to see if anyone explained how to set it up to record on a laptop and found you after watching a couple of others that weren't explaining much beyond the obvious. Your video was terrific and covered everything I needed to know. Originally I only wanted to know about connecting to the computer and recording and thought I knew how to set it up physically but you gave me some useful pointers I was unaware of. Thank you so much! I'm heading off now to do a test run :D PS the tip about moisture was VERY important as I live in Tasmania and have a massive condensation issue in my home. I had no idea the crystal packet was for the mic pouch! I would have just left it in the box. Crucial info for me also so I know not to leave the mic/set up the studio in either of the two worst damp effected rooms.

      +Lucinda I am so pleased the video was of help to you. I'm sure you will enjoy using the mic. I appreciate the time you have taken out to let me know in your comments. My wife and I spent some time in Tassie in May this year 2016 and loved it. Looking forward to exploring the north east of the state in the near future.

    Thanks for this video. It really helps the rank newbie like me to get basic setup done right. Too many of this type of tutorial videos out there assume a basic knowledge of how to set up audio equipment, leaving those just entering this exciting world discouraged and doing things wrong from the get-go. Thanks, Gary, these Rode UT-NSB vids and keep them coming -- especially with a focus on the newbies out here!

    • @GaryDmedia
      @GaryDmedia  Před 6 lety

      That would be a difficult video to make because it’s not so much the Android Operating system that is the problem it is the hardware it is running on. For example each phone manufacturer deals with external digital devices differently. Even among Samsung phones, one model works with external USB mics and another not. Explore some of the other comments as some have had success connecting to an android device.

    • @loislois6719
      @loislois6719 Před 6 lety +1

      Gary Davies - AudioTTR I hear the sound of working computer but in reality it's not so noisy( and The mic also recs the voice from another room, I'm so unhappy with this!( (sitting straight to wall but as this model is a cardioid it should't catch a sound on a back side). Using Windows 7

    • @GaryDmedia
      @GaryDmedia  Před 6 lety +1

      +Lois Lois I understand now, thanks. In a perfect world for cardioid microphones there would be no walls that reflect sound around the room. Sadly in our studios or living rooms there are a lot of reflective surfaces that bounce the sounds around into the front of the mic. This is why many people hang up soft materials like blankets or specially made panels to soak up these reflected noises. I have even opened up my cloths cupboard and faced the mic into it so no reflections of sound go into the front of the mic. Another way to reduce these unwanted room sounds is to talk/sing close to the mic (75mm/ 3in) away from the mic and turn down the sensitivity in the software program. Be sure to use the pop filter so there is no breath noise. Hope these tips help.

    • @loislois6719
      @loislois6719 Před 6 lety +1

      Gary Davies - AudioTTR which easy soft could you advice for that purpose? It'/s more preferable way out for me because I live with parents and they get mad if I put smth on walls :D and the room where I'm planning to stream is almost empty with an echo. Tried to use some noise deleting filters in OBS - it sounds weird is if I was under the water ( When it's low recording level it's okey but me too sounds very quietly. Thank you for the fast answer, have a nice day! Regards

    • @GaryDmedia
      @GaryDmedia  Před 6 lety

      +Gary Davies - AudioTTR I have used both the iPad and a PC. Both seem to work well. You just have to get used to adjusting the settings. Generally if you can hear other sounds in the room the mic will pick it up. Many CZcamsrs record their videos late at night when the house is quiet and little traffic noise outside.

    Hey Gary, does the mix control determine what is being recorded, or does it only determine what you hear in the headphone? Specifically, will the music get mixed into the recorded track? I'm asking this because I want the vocals on a track separate from the background music. Thanks in advance, I find your video very informative and I'm getting this mic.

    • @GaryDmedia
      @GaryDmedia  Před 7 lety +8

      +賴志偉 Thanks for asking. Glad you enjoyed the video. No the control has no effect on what is recorded. It just mixes the two together for the headphones. The mic will be totally recoded separately.

Thanks in advance!

    Hi Gary, I've just gotten a Rode NT-USB+ and I tried recording myself singing. I plugged it into my iPhone, and my headphones into the laptop that's just beside for the backing track. I then recorded myself singing using my phone's camera. However, when I played back, I'm not entirely sure if the audio I hear is actually from the mic, or my phone? I'm quite confused actually as to how mics work. I want to record a clean audio that I can manually add on to the backing tracks because I normally record a few takes, and so having a clean direct audio track will help when I piece together parts from different recordings. I'm not sure if this makes sense, but it does in my head. 😂
    I get quite frustrated when I don't know what's going on, and I wonder if I set it up wrongly or so. But according to this video, I believe I set it up the correct way as well. But something just feels wrong, but I can't tell what and where I went wrong. 🥲

    • @GaryDmedia
      @GaryDmedia  Před 6 lety

      No. The problem lies in its performance with moisture on the diaphragm. If you dry it out it would return to full performance. All of this of course is if your humidity in your region is above 70% or so. Most areas are generally 50 - 55%. Hope that helps.

    Maybe you can help 🤞🏼. Ive got this exact same mike. I use Logic in an iMac (M1 chip). My audio interface is a Focusrite Scarlet 2i4. Ive got the USB out from the Focusrite going into my USB hub which itself goes into the Mac.
    This is where Im stuck. Where do I put the mike ?
    If I connect it to the hub a message pops up in Logic asking me if I want to use the newly found audio interface/device. If I click No, Logic behaves as normal. I can play my music back BUT cant record any vocals. Theres not even any meter activity.
    If I choose Yes to the question,the light on the mike comes on and I can see input activity on my Logic input channel. However, if I press Play the song looks like its playing and I can record my vocals, but not hear any music 🤷‍♂️. Am totally stuck so if you do know what I’m doing wrong Id be grateful 🙏

    • @GaryDmedia
      @GaryDmedia  Před měsícem

      I can understand how confused you must be. The NT-USB Mic won't plug into your Focusrite interface cause the Rode mic has its own interface built in. You simply plug the USB lead into the hub and set the mic up as another audio interface. The microphone that would plug into the focusrite is has a XLR type lead. Like the RODE Podcaster mic or a Shure SM58. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the advice though. Appreciate that. Ive got an old Shure mike that I can record vocals on via my mixer so think Ill stick to that and sell the RODE 👍🏻

      @GaryDmedia  Před 8 lety

      Hi +Shola Eniobama You could use an adaptor to split your headphone feed from the mic like I did in the video, and run that to the camera but it would be far better quality to record your audio separately on your computer and match it up when you edit the video. Hope that helps.

    • @GaryDmedia
      @GaryDmedia  Před 8 lety

      +Shola Eniobamo Thanks for the link. The software Gina Pimentel is using is the MAC version of Garageband. She has prerecorded the piano track and while listening to via the RODE NT-USB she records her voice onto Garageband as another track. The computer speaker output can be run to the camera to add audio while recording but there would be a lot of delay called latency, and the voice would not exactly match the video. The best way to synchronize the audio and video after. Simply put, to get this quality of audio you would have to add the recorded track in your video editing stage. Hope this helps clear it up.

The same as if it was plugged into an iPad with the assistance of a USB adapter as highlighted in the video.
