  • Level Lock is a smart lock that remains entirely invisible and hidden within your door, bringing automation features and security while not adding bulbous and confusing hardware.

    i don’t know about housing the battery right on the deadbolt. if an intruder comes kicking in the door, that bolt will have battery leaking out of it. the deadbolt is supposed to be the physical deterrent in terms of brute force. that one is hollow, not solid steel.

    This lock is terrible if you're wanting to include it into automations or use it on any lock too remote from any Homekit hub. It was a nice experience to install and the engineering is impressive, regardless of the hollowed battery-bolt, but after 3 months of "No Response" unless I was standing less than 8 feet away within line-of-sight, I replaced it with a Yale-August Assure one.
    I really wanted this one to work so that I could return to something that didn't scream "Hey everyone, I am a smart lock," from either side of the door.

    So close. I’ve gone smart home except for smart lock because none are ready for prime time. I thought this was it. But the lack of Wifi is a deal breaker (does anyone even own a HomePod?). Also, as clever as it is to have the battery in the bolt, that seems like a really really weak bolt. @cameronno6039 Před 4 lety +1

      They need Z-wave, google assistant/ alexa access, Wi-fi, and actual strength for the lock. He didn't cover that the lock isn't strong. If you unlock or lock it too hard for the motor, it won't work. I.e, after a normal lock or unlock for me, I have to turn it back the other way just to ensure I can remotely lock it if I want to in the future. In all, it is a VERY limited device.

    • @wanaraz
      @wanaraz Před 4 lety +3

      @@cameronno6039 In an ordinary deadbolt like a one inch throw, the bolt goes in the jamb one inch and about one inch is in the body of the door. This creates a strong point of contention for a thief. This smart lock seems to throw it's whole bolt in the jamb and leaves nothing on the door side. This makes for a very weak connection. Especially if the door opens in as most front doors do. But if you are not too worried about security because of where you live this could be an answer, But Zwave would be the ticket for sure. Yale Nest has a beautiful one that I like that does everything FREE!

    hi, good review, thought I'd mention 2 other important points to consider for these kinda items: 1. battery low warning, to give advance headsup before battery depleates (around 10 or 20% maybe); 2. does it let you still use a key if your battery is dead, or your phone ran out of juice right before the door (slim but possible scenario for some people)

    Even though he says that the lock is solid, from a European point of view it looks like a padlock to me. Massive locks don't seem to help much with American doors. The lock may hold, but the door won't. Here the doors usually have several bolts all around and are operated by a Euro cylinder which does not determine the stability of the locking system and they are thicker (if they are outer doors). The important thing is that the Euro cylinder should be difficult to crack.

    Gee, I don't know about the idea to put the battery in the bolt. That bolt is now a fraction of the strength it would have been if it was solid. One or two kicks and it would probably snap.

    I really don't like mine. The touch is so finicky, the geofencing is too large to be able to leave my keys at home and rely on touch/Auto Unlock when I go for a walk. Basically, I have to unlock it from my phone to use the smart features reliably, and at that point I found it easier and quicker to just use my key. I got mine on sale and I still feel ripped off.

    Great review Andrew! I actually purchased this lock because I’ve had a few issues with my August lock. The only issue for me is that Level Lock doesn’t offer a keypad. I haven’t installed mine yet because I really love the push button lock feature of the August keypad. Great when you have your hands full. do you have any suggestions for me? Is there a universal homekit button I could mount outside my front door?
