The Doctor's journey up and down his own timeline continues in the latest adventure of Big Finish’s 60th anniversary series with Once and Future: A Genius for War.
Sylvester McCoy stars as the Seventh Doctor in a battle of wits with his greatest enemy, in a full-cast Doctor Who audio drama released today.
Davros (Terry Molloy), the General (Ken Bones) and Veklin (Beth Chalmers) are just some of the familiar faces encountered as the Doctor tries to find out more about the mysterious weapon which injured him during the Time War.
Doctor Who - Once and Future: A Genius for War, written by Jonathan Morris, is now available to own as a single-disc collector’s edition CD (+ download for just £10.99), or digital download only (for just £8.99), exclusively from www.bigfinish.com.
In the midst of the Time War, the Time Lords have received a communication from Falkus, the prison moon of Skaro. Its sole inmate, Davros, wishes to make them an offer.
He will help them win the Time War… but only if the Doctor comes to his rescue.
Writer Jonathan Morris said: “I was thrilled to be asked to write for the 60th anniversary audio series. Working on other Big Finish things, I’d occasionally caught a tantalising glimpse of a page of script or overheard actors in the studio recording a scene which I didn’t know about. And I was all, ‘Oh, that sounds terribly exciting, I wish they’d ask me to do something’. And then, out of the blue, they did!
“I had two main thoughts, though, which you could consider part of my ‘brief to self’. It needed to deal with a significant part of the series mythology - it couldn’t be ‘just another Doctor Who story’. And rather than being written in the style of the Seventh Doctor’s era it had to be a contemporary piece because it’s not only a celebration of the past, it’s a celebration of the fact that it’s still going.”
Actor Sylvester McCoy added: “Doctor Who was only supposed to last for six weeks and it's now sixty years! It's astonishing.
“I'm sure the other Doctors and companions will tell you, when they meet people throughout the world, many of them say 'Doctor Who inspired me to become a doctor', 'Doctor Who inspired me to become a scientist', or 'Doctor Who inspired me and helped me to get through life'. It's extraordinary. What a blessing to be in such a wonderful programme.”

The hybrid emperor dalek mixing the original 60s emperor and the time war emperor is something I didn’t know I wanted until now
The 7th doctor was always known as the chess master. Brilliant trailer.
Which Doctor was cheeky enough to respond to this request? None other than the Chess Master - Seven - who destroyed Skaro via one of the largest Time-War-instigating moves in the show's history. If you're going to make a deal with a devil, it may as well be a devil you know. "Oh, Davros. I am FAR more than JUST another Time Lord!"

Seeing Davros playing Chess i could just watch for hours listening to him talk about his life on Skaro & the creation of the DALEKS
Like how the trailer employs the use of miniatures similar to the eaglemoss and that Timelords are Silver and Daleks are gold.
This implies that the Time Lords are the white side in chess, further implying that they started the time war.

This trailer is perfect the 7th Doctor is a master strategist if he had joined the time war they probably would’ve won
But how much of the universe(s) would actually be left standing if Seven had been the one going through the Time War instead of Nine/the Warrior?

I think all my fellow Doctor Who fans will agree - we've come a long way since 1989.
Even before then, Briggs and co, were creating new Doctor Who audios. Little did Nick know how far his love of Doctor Who would take him and us?
My ONLY gripe? Every time I see a Big Finish trailer like this, it makes me annoyed the BBC aren't making spin offs like this? I think the next show runners SHOULD BE Briggs and gang.
Because I now see the Big Finish audios as part of the Whoniverse? Along with the books and DWN universes?
And one final question: When are we seeing Nick Brigg's version of the Doctor, as seen in the original audios and once or twice in Doctor Who Magazine's comic strip?
I still remember the wonderful story "Emperor of the Daleks" from issues 197-202.
The TV show still has so many fantastic ideas from Doctor Who Magazine and Big Finish which would be PERFECT for the television universe.
And since a certain fury psycho villain, who pretends to be cute, is appearing soon in the 60th anniversary specials isn't time the DWM and Big FInish universes were treated as one?
After all, the 8th did name check his audio companions before becoming the War Doctor?
Exciting times could be at hand if the right creative minds prevailed and gave the fans what they wanted.
THANK YOU Nick and everyone at Big Finish for making my life more bearable. Because despite all my problems I KNOW I can always travel with the Doctor to a place where good defeats evil.

Absolutely. Also we had the one Michael Wisher trailer which, I think I read, was his first time voicing the character since the 70s. Let's get him back into it as well. Actually let's just get every Davros.

Davros has perhaps a plan to kill the Doctor?
Of course. But then, Davros can't know how he fits into this Doctor's plan, can he?
He's lying about the dalek emprisonment and since daleks were a pain in the brain for the time lords they would gadly make the Doctor go to Skaro to save Escrow and this is where Favors would kill the Doctor!
