My grandpa had a post-war WC that he used on his apple orchard, and it used to run the sprayer when he applied chemical onto his apples. Seeing this tractor reminds me of him.
A friend of the family once told us about during the war years he worked helping a guy who had an Allis Chalmers set up like this. He said most farmers in that area still shucked corn by hand but the labor shortage gave that guy a lot of business. That was almost all check wire planted rows back then.

Nice video once again, l run a lot of older equipment just because l get enjoyment out of it. It's extremely difficult to find a mounted picker in remotely decent shape in my part of Ontario so for now watching you guys pick is the best substitute.
It's fun playing with the picker, wish we had some properly spaced rows so we could do 2 at a time
My family has always run allis chalmers my great grandad owned a allis chalmers dealer and i am a gen Z and it makes me sad i cant see allis chalmers in its hayday so that makes me like ur vids

1:37 You answered the question I had for a long time. When I looked at the picker grandpa mounted on his WD-45, I could never tell what was the best way to get on.
The step seems like it was an afterthought when they designed it, it's not much fun getting on or off!
@@JandLVideos Ours was an earlier model, and I don't know if it had that step. Unlike the 33 that I think you have, instead of a squirrel cage fan in front of each foot, ours had a single fan mounted on the elevator. Never saw it connected, too much cold blasting on the driver's back.
Maybe get an old wd planter set at 40-48 rows, cultivate with a c, and only plant 2 or 3 acres to demonstrate circa 1948 corn farming, it would give you a lot of seasonal video content. Then maybe set a all crop 60 up stationary to shell the corn after dry-down.

I’ve often wondered about using a all crop as a stationary sheller. Wonder how many guys might of done this back in the day? There was a corn head option for the 66 but it was not very popular at all.

You had mentioned that back in the day they were planting on 38"-40" row spacing. Do you know the population spacing within the rows? 7"-10" apart maybe?
Probably still 6-8 inches. Depending on population. So his comment on too many plants is slightly wrong. The main issue would be the longer heavier ears of corn.
