Its good for people to have had their views and opinions of such an historic strike to be captured for people to listen to in the future.

Parkside wasn't the last pit in lancashire at all. Grimebridge worked on until 96 and Hill Top opened a year later.
The coal board and British coal were not the be all and end all of coal mining. Lancashire had it's fare share of private coal mines

I'm currently making a drama set during the strikes for a University project, and I'm hoping to include some archive footage in it. I wondered if you'd be able to tell me where you got yours, as I think it's fascinating.

Grimebridge was actualy closed twice under private ownership 90-92 then worked with 6 men till final closure summer 96, but the context of this video is the demise of a NATIONAL industry not private mines whos contribution is/was minimal.
Thatcher said ALL the pits where unprofitable then why is it some of the ex NCB collieries continued in private ownership untill this past few years and the fact we still have 4 deep mines and 4 surface mines being worked by uk coal.....

This is where people clash, yes it was sad that these family men was losing there job, yes it was a shame that the industry was shutting but the demand for coal had rapidly declined and most of the pits was costing way to much money to keep open when we didn't need them, plus people need to read into the history of pit closures and see that most pits was closed under labour and was still shutting under Blair

I understand how you feel, but pits had been shutting for years, under all government parties, and for all the years Tony Blair was in power, he never kept a pit open or opened any new ones.

I agree that the Tories don't value the working class. Good reason not to vote for them. And the same goes for Labour.

Stalinist Scargill began a fight he could not win, and in the process destroyed the NUM.
