She is here to help SEAL Calamity Ganon, eh?
Truly a pun worthy of Riju's Seal of Approval.
She did when she 1st appears in age of calamity lol
To Seal the Deal
Remember to get those dash attack seals to help!
Seal the Deal, kid!
We don’t have all day to sign this contract!
*Your Contract Has Expired intensifies*
other characters: *normal combos*
Riju: *Enraged screaming*
Patricia: I am speed.
While riju isn't my favourite character to play as (sidon and hestu have that spot covered), i do think that it is very funny how she just thought "i need a weapon to fight... i'll just run over everyone with my pet, that'll work"
The Gerudo are master crafters of weapons that are elegant and powerful
And then Riju is just like: seal
Part of me feels bad for Patrica. In one of her WPS attacks, Riju straight up launches Patrica out of the ground to hit the target with her face. That can’t feel nice...
@@failure4452 She heard weapon seals are important for building a strong fighter. 😝
@@EpsilonRosePersonal hahaha. So stupid it’s funny
The seal is the character, and Riju is the weapon
Just like with the Great Faries, as soon as I was using Riju I knew I was doing something wrong.
Damn, glad I'm not the only one came to that instant realization that I'm messing sh- up with these characters 😂
Sameee lol
Great fairy and riju was the only two characters I dident want to learn
Ahh, Cotera ZR combo goes brrrr
He’s showing all the characters we put as bottom tier when the game came out first lmao
Generally cuz they are pretty good just no one knew how to play them
Feels a bit weird to Tier list for a single player game anyways
@@TheJayCrow
I’ve just reached the point where I’ve started pulling my hair out in frustration at these missions. I will take any advice that will make my life easier.
You say bottom tier, I say playstyles that take time to master. Game's only been out for a little over a month.
I feel every carachter is broken on their own way
Only real thing I can think of to note for miscellaneous info is that one of Riju's idle animations has her pull out a Hearty Durian to give to Patricia. Unlike Fire Emblem Warriors, little details like that don't really show up in too many moves, so I... Will definitely not have to make detailed lists for these videos.
Play Yunobo, I found by messing around that his third hit (the one where he slams the ground) if you stop the string there he shakes his hands in recoil. In fact just about every one of his Y attacks have a little animation if you cancel the string there. Very cute.
I'm more so noting things like items that appear in animations than little things like that.
King Rhoam’s apple eating animation heals him
Can’t thank you enough for starting this series with the weird and complicated characters. I really want to make good use of all of them and this helps a lot!
I absolutely agree. If it wasn't for these videos, I'd have never known about Cia's redead immunity, or the deal with Medli's unique action guage flight thing, or even how overpowered the battle tested guardian could truly be. I mean, I knew he was strong, but... now he's one of my main characters. There are a lot of missions, challenges, things like that, that lock you into a specific character/weapon. If that ever fell on Wizzro, or Riju before, I'd be so screwed. Now I know that their strength isn't in the usual place of combos. Sure, I'm not particularly great with Wizzro now, but I'm a lot better than I was. And then Young Link's spamming of magic. I'm glad these videos are here to show me the true potential of each of these characters. Use them at their peak. :)
The future characters are all so fun and unique XD
Teba is an absolute beast and Sidon's very fun too. Riju's alright, but I really don't know how to use Yunobo effectively : /
I hate yunobo... But the others are good and fun
Yunobo is a beast once you get his mechanic. Why wait for the weak point bar when you can just force it to come out with Yunobo? ;)
@@highinquisitordarkblaw4868 I played a little bit with him and found out that you can do exactly that with the green shield and his strong attack, the rocket stone fist thing. You can immediately use Stasis after that to get more time to deplete it. He's not that bad once you learn his gimmick.
@@chrisjackson6149 I've found a lot of value in Yunobo's C5 and C6. Use the orange shield on C5 or the Yellow (or I guess you put it as Green) shield on C6. The C6 will have Yunobo fire out of a cannon, and with the Yellow Shield, it will force the enemy into weakpoint and then deal a ton of damage to that weakpoint.
Yunobo turns into a force to be reckoned with when you just continue destroying weak point gauges with his C6. I use C3 and C4 with Red shield for crowd control.
So, Riju is just basically:
*Gotta go fast.*
Please make Hestu, I need to fully understand him. He's one of my favorites.
Hope this comment of my observations will suffice until we get a real episode:
Hestu's real power comes from making sure as many koroks are on the field as possible, so be sure his special action is refreshed whenever possible. His C1 (with koroks) can be dodge cancelled (like Riju's C2 and C6) for basically free extra focus damage while Hestu is free to attack so this should likewise be refreshed on every boss you encounter. Otherwise, his C4 and C6 combos are pretty spectacular damage. In particular, going C4 directly into C1 with koroks out causes them to do a different attack that absolutely melts weak points.
His top-tier weapon has "damage per 100 KOs" on it, so if you get to the late game, definitely take him along for large battles and watch him decimate mobs.
I love how this game got even more creative with their characters, especially the 4 "future" characters, although Sidon was the only one I immediately understood. Even without optimizing Riju, I still liked the idea of a "utility" character as it was pretty obvious she's the best for gathering Korok seeds.
I appreciate that you're knocking out the hardest and weirdest characters first!
This guide 10000% has made her make more sense to me, thanks!
Well this changes a lot about how I saw Riju. I wasn't a fan of her attack strings and found her tedious to play. But, this changes a lot. I've come to rely on hit and run tactics for a very hard playthrough I'm attempting.
Yesss Riju is my fave character to play!
Same here! Love her so much and ahe is so fun!
Same but I suck with her, lol. Hopefully not anymore
Riju is easily my favourite character to play with. There are a few things I noticed while playing.
1. Her Strong Dash Attack is an even safer option to attack than mentioned in the video. Most enemies can't even hit you when you circle around them while using it. Furthermore you can always Stasis while using it, even mid attack, which is super crazy and adds to her Guardian killer Title.
2. Speaking of her Dash, you can start her powered up dash by simply tapping ZR and continuing to move. Like that it's just as simple as pressing X, but maybe it's easier for some to use ZR.
3. Her fifth Strong Attack (The Tornado) can hit Taluses Weak spots normally, making it her best option against them.
4. Her sixth (the last one) Strong Attack can actually force out Weak Point Gauges on many Boss enemies. The fact that she can get interrupted and the attack still coming through and it hitting in such a big area makes the attack actually viable against Bosses and one of the best Heavy attacks that force out the Weak Point Gauge.
5. It seems that not all her Weak point smashes are created equally: The one where she deals the last hit with a backflip kick seems to do a lot more damage than the other two. Though I noticed that this is a regular occurrence as most of the Heroes seem to have that weird aspect and I don't know why.
But there are also negative things you missed that are important to mention.
1. If you use her Regular Attack String while locked on, touch the Left stick as little as possible as it can, for some reason, reset her Attack String. This seems to happen most with Hinoxes in my experience.
2. Speaking of Bosses: If you manage to down a Talus, don't jump on top of it. Most of her Regular Attacks are bound to Patricia who will still be on the ground, making it extremely difficult to hit the weak spot. Though enough of her Attacks have a large enough hitbox to hit the weak spot without jumping on top.
I think it shows that I used her a lot, huh?
She is unconventional and definitely not the strongest Hero in the roster. But she is a really fun one to play as when you start to understand her playstyle.
I know that Riju's Sphere is able to interact with water. The attack where Patricia surfs around while lightning strikes around her also interacts with water as well. As far as I'm aware, those are the only attacks to actually do outside of rods and Cryonis.
Doesn't Urbosa interact with water? Pretty sure I've seen her do it most of her strong attacks, but not sure tho.
Pls do teba next he's so weird to use, he just keeps machine gunning all the enemies and i don't even understand what is going on!
For Teba, every combo string that ends with a heavy attack can be extended by mashing the heavy attack button. Those extensions are what you call machine gunning--you keep mashing the heavy attack button after a combo, so Teba continues attacking after the combo since you're using the input to make him do so.
These extensions have limited uses in my experience--Teba's third strong attack extension, the one where he continually fires arrows in a wide fan shape in front of him and can fly around while doing so, is good for area clearing, while his second strong attack extension, the one where he fires arrows in a smaller cone shape in front of him but can't move while doing so, is good for breaking weak point gauges.
Teba's fourth strong attack extension, the one where he fires singular arrows in a direction you aim him at, is pretty eh in my experience, it seems to just be a weaker version of his second strong attack extension. Teba's fifth strong attack extension, the one where he continually flies in circles, is a good area clearing tool as well, but I find his third strong attack extension better, especially when dealing with outposts. If he has any combo extensions beyond these, I haven't unlocked them yet.
Same, I've almost unlocked all the characters and Teba is my least favorite so far. It feels like he is impossible to control and whenever I try to attack with him he just goes all over the place.
@@ReunionMana when I said machine gunning, i meant it as a joke, because he shoots arrows faster than the video game mascot-platformer animal that likes to spin,
Which is crash bandicoot
@Weldar Just a heads up. His other moves can hold still too, just don't press the thumbstick. That move just locks him in place.
Teba is top-tier according to some, or at least according to their playbook
This helps so much, thanks!
Update: I actually enjoy playing as Riju now
I literally just got Riju and started thinking about how you would explain her gameplay while doing her training lmao
this is a SEALiously useful guide
The starlight Bridle got the short end of the stick, I see
So it’s main purpose is to get to level 25, and then upgrade the Bridle of the Seven
Got it
I got lucky and got a Bridle of the Seven drop literally the same mission Riju joins, so I’ve always been using it
@@failure4452 same
@@failure4452 I think they start with their level 3 weapon. I got several weapons for her in the mission and none for Teba. Teba only has his level 3 Falcon Bow.
I got a blank Bridle of the Seven but I also got a tier 2 weapon that had better base strength and Dash Attack++.
i dont understand why we need so many dash attack seals, we already have the best seal in the whole game.
For Riju's final seal I think I'm personally going to go for Attack Range++. I like using her for crowd control more than taking down larger enemies, so I think having more range on the dash attacks would be about as effective as getting special attacks more frequently.
Hmmm interesting take
This is actually a very good choice, remember she already fills up special attack quickly so doubling down on that will result in you having more then you can use (Wasting it in the first place) while Range means hitting more enemies when traveling (More Special) and more importantly you'll get more hits when dash around large enemies.
Dang you totally made me change my mind on Riju. I kinda like her more now thanks to you!
Tough yet adorable, she's definitely a great example of the kind of character that grows on you with time.
Another this quickly? Truly we are blessed
Nintendo should have hired you to explain "how to use characters" guide, for real this is waay better than the confusing and incomplete moveset tutorials the game throws at you.
First the Great Fairy's, then Riju. Okay, Hestu has to be next right? He's the last character that people tend to put as bottom tier.
People also tend to put Monk Maz Koshia fairly low, but they are my favourite and insanely OP if you know how to use them
Stompy Monk mains rise up

I see Nintendo is quite aware of the bomb shield strat.
Missed this series! Thanks for the great content!
I like to think of her as an agitha for this game. Seems awful as a first impression but spending some time with her leads to devastating results.
I've avoided playing Riju because i just couldn't control her. in some attacks patrica would go so fast as you've stated that the camera goes weird. Im willing to retry with these tips
I was waiting for this video! I have a newfound appreciation for Riju now. Thank you :D
What a treat. My 2 favorite characters in this game you review first. Oh so excited to fully watch this!
Man I love these guides, thank you. Gives the game way more depth
Man, I’ve really missed your guides. I love that you delve into what makes a character unique and the specific scenarios they really shine in.
Love your guides on the more difficult characters
I always appreciate how clearly and interestingly you organize your breakdowns. We're so lucky to have such high-quality coverage of this genre of games!
Your review on Riju is by far the best. Great vid
Thank you so much for this! I loved the video!
Definitely gonna give her another chance. Loving these videos, very informative.
Thanks for the Riju guide! I will definitely try out the dash attack style! I was using her as a regular fighter too and changing strategies would definitely be helpful.
These are exactly the kind of guides that need to be made.
The other video guides are extremely cookie cutter and basic and provide information that can be found by just looking at the main menu.
However your guides are amazing. Thank you.
Riju was definitely tough to learn but man she’s become my favorite. Thanks for this guide so I can optimize my use of her!
Please continue this series... Even if I know how to play some of the characters, in depth guides would be suuuuuuuper helpful to get to know them even better!!!
Damn this guide Really helped me Understand her and now I love using her, Great Job!
Nice I like these guides
First view lol
Finally, someone put it in words far better than I could
Wow, this was really helpful! Even if it takes a long time, I hope you will continue to do these in-depth guides on all characters! Nintendo should like, pay you
Riju was the first person I started labbing, which then made me make her my favorite character. Great guide!
This is going to be interesting
Dude, thank you. Like with many others, I had no idea what the hell was going on with Riju. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for this. I was very perplexed by her. Now I see she is playable.
your speech cadence and enunciation are very good.
Really good video. I've been wanting to play with this character for a bit (I blame the game grumps memes about "seal team 6" lol) and was having trouble getting my head around her play style. The video was concise and enjoyable to listen to. Very informative. Thank you!
I appreciate this video so much. I was so confused about how to efficiently use her move set 😭
I love how her and Urbosa's bomb rune are them doing the speedrunner bomb jump thing from BOTW
Currently addicted to this game so these videos are an instant click for me. I love using riju without dash spamming but now I may start cause I did struggle with some bosses
thanks for this! needed to get used to her
Oh man, you changed my view on Riju! That sounds amazing, I might try her more now. As it is my first mushu kind of game, I stuck to the normal characters like Link 1H/King Roman. I recently got very good seals for Hetsu and the little egg robot, but I'll wait you make guides to play them.
BTW you focus on the top seals for weapons. But I tend to focus on monster parts/battle fields mats/sensor materials for now. I like to clear out maps of enemies personally so I might as well get some rewards for it!
I don't know why but when I play with Riju I always start giggling a little bit due to the sheer ridiculousness that is her moveset.
*Dies in flying patricia*
Riju whenever she wants to go fast: *PATRICIA!* Hey baby are you ok come here
I prefer Patricia over Morsela
I also constantly think about that one vine when playing her lol
I was totally missing the point with her! Nice Guide!
Same
Thank you for making a Guide like this.
For many, myself included, it really feels like you need a different mindset entirely to work her well and it does take someone pointing out how to use her well to make them adjust an otherwise static line of thinking. This said, I do believe you did neglect to give one warning and that's about her strong dash attack's tendency to jerk you around due to collision in some areas. Mind you, this is something I noticed today in both gameplay and in your video but if you attempt to do her spinning dash attack near walls, or too close to some enemies (Guardians mostly) you will be displaced from your original position due to the attack. This also prevents you from some narrower clearances during fights, so be aware of that if you are running around spinning wildly people.
On a side note: Can't wait to see you use the Mad Monk for one of these guides. I honestly have more trouble with him than almost anyone else and hope that you can bring some clarity to the rather odd, but interesting character.
Oh gosh thank you for this video I was starting to hate her cause I could not figure her play style dashing to damage is so cool
I thought Riju was a lot of fun, but didn't really get how to use her well, so this is a great video to see recommended.
Riju is really fun! I don’t quite have her mastered yet, but it feels great whenever she’s able to demolish groups of enemies and boss health bars in a flash. She’s definitely one of my favorite characters in AOC!
Riju is disgustingly powerful on Zora’s Domain and the other rainy levels, because of the way Lighting works there
I'm late to the party and this may have been mentioned already. One thing I noticed about Riju's rampage is that, from what I can tell from different bosses, is that no attack can break her out of rampage. It's almost unbreakable. Also, it always reveals the WPG though stopping to get more attacks on it is challenging. Still takes getting used to use her but interesting to try this method you're suggesting!
The thing that I think is Riju's best specialty using her special move is that when Riju is really high-levelled paired with a strong weapon and you take into a weaker stage perhaps to find chests and korok seeds or easy rupees, she can completely obliterate almost any enemy in her path.
Because her special move has great speed, she can also quickly jump from one side of the map to another instead of commanding her and in this turn, means you can again, trample weak enemies on the way there. I'd really call her the best unit to use when your'e farming for monster trophies like lizalfos and bokoblin trophies. Or better yet in addition to that, easily take monster drops
do one about monk maz koshia
DEFINITELY gonna give Riju another try after this. I always saw her as a character that was heavily specialized for crowd clearing and getting from point to point
Loving these "Tricky character" guides coming out first. I'd like to see either bow of light next, not because its complicated, but because I'd like to see which attacks are considered the "bow" for purposes of the bonus damage. That, or hestu/Teba
I so vibed with this video! I also saw Riju as an asset when gathering koroks. Her traversing speed is the best in the game and I used her so much I also noticed pretty much every point in the video myself. Still lovely to know I was right about my girl ✨
at first I tried to play her like any other character, and thought she was the worst character. But after watching this video and using her correctly I've grown a liking to her and always see her in my teams. Thank you so much!!!
I believe Casca from Berserk Band of the Hawk is a Dash attack specialist as well.
The playstyle gives a "it ain't much but it's honest work" kind of feeling haha.
These are, without a doubt, the best AoC guides online. I can’t wait for you to get to my mains.
Who are your mains?
1. My darling stompy monk
2. Zelda (but with bows)
3. I really want to be good with Hestu, he deserves it.
I can’t wait for you to get to my mains
1. Kohga
2. Sidon
3. Teba
4. Stompy Monk
0:04 That animation Riju made is actually the same animation female characters make in Fire Emblem Three Houses when they get a good grade. There are actually several snippets of things from Three Houses that Koei Tecmo reused for Age of Calamity.
Heh. A character that revolves around DASH ATTACKS, huh? That is an unique concept. Also, I am SO glad that you are doing the more complex characters first. Needless to say, they are the ones that intimidate me the most.
There's another thing to note about Riju. If you plan on using her, get used to hearing Patricia's name get called out. A lot. Of course, it'll be "Patricia-chan" in Japanese, "Madame Patricia" in French, and "Morselia" in Spanish, but she name-drops that seal a whole bunch. "Ikuzo, Patricia-chan! Jama o suruna!!"
Also, with Dash Attack Damage seals, only one of her weak point smashes will be augmented - the one where she gets spun around before doing a flash kick. If you get the other one, where Patricia just pancakes the enemy, it'll do significantly less damage.
Finally, while most characters do well with Attack Speed seals, Riju should not use them, as they glitch out her 3YX (C4) and 4YX (C5) combos. This is one reason why Special Charge is being recommended for a square match. You can, instead, simply go for one more Dash Attack, as the extra 24% dashing damage will more than offset 5 extra strength on your weapon.
I sort of learned all of this looking for koroks! People can finally understand that she is good and useful.
Explains why I hated her at first. Thanks for the guide; it's super useful, and I'll see about trying her out again.
Well here is the thing, if you are locked on a character and if you are dashing towards said character, if you press Y then you enter the normal combo string whereas if you press X you may continue your dash, the Y is interrupting essentially your dash if you are locked on and if you continue pressing you are in the normal attack string.
“She can use her special attack a lot more freely than the rest of the cast.
Impa: Am I a joke to you?
Yup impa is a joke
Well, this clarifies a lot. I was just trying to go up to enemies and crank combos like everyone else, but struggling to control where she ends up. I guess the secret is just to give up on combos and control and just whirl around with strong attacks.
10:06 I remember doing one of her later missions and trying for like 2 full minutes to pull off this attack.
I love that seal and seal joke lol
The second I realized she guarded with a shield, she became an instant-slot for many of my missions.
It took a bit to get used to focusing more on Dash Attacks than normal, but once I did she easily started to show her worth. Guardian reflections? No problem. Hoards of enemies? Give me that special charge. High movement speed? Part of the package.
She's great, and probably in my top two for most played at this point.
Im now very curious about how many characters have mechanics I had no idea existed- first the fairies with their unique status effects and now Riju’s rage mode
Heres a tip, in the main map press plus, select a character, select said character’s level / heart box, then press right, and look for the ZR button, its that simple
@@coleminer8847 sure, except for riju it just says something like patricia enters a rage, not mentioning that you dont even need to press ZR to enter it, nor that it buffs her dash attacks; the way its worded, it just implies that ZR only gives you a fast way to travel around the map
@@ThePuffmeisteroh, sorry, i read it wrong
Riju is awesome
I hate playing her against boss enemies but against a lot of enemies she is one of the best.
I don't know if other people experienced this, but I've had numerous instances where I attempted to start her standard attack string, and the game would immediately despawn Patricia, causing the attack string to infinitely loop just the first standard attack.
Thanks for the guide. I'll have to try out the dash attack spamming the next time I play as Riju.
I love your videos!!! Is there gonna be any kind of stream from you, for AoC? I would love to watch it!!!
I somewhat discovered that by spamming x so many times, during strong dash attacks, single enemy health gauge can get absolutely devastated, because of it.
nice
More great content. Also...
There's a cap to the same shape stacking?! Oh no... I'll have to fix a good number of my weapons again.
A little tidbit you seemed to miss about Riju's aerial attacks, is that she can go back in to a paraglide after doing her light air attack combo i believe, being able to stay in the air 2-3x longer than most characters
Omg your videos are amaizing!
Teba soon, plz! Or Rivali, though he's a bit easier, I find...
I think you might have to be moving for the second regular dash attack to trigger? Since you can’t attack and move through stronger enemies, it could be stopping her from moving after her first regular dash attack, and since she’s no longer dashing, it puts her back into her regular attack string
There is yet another way to enter Rage attacks with Riju and it's after a simple backstep (B with no direction) and pressing Y right after. Riju will be able to execute the full Rage combo from a near standseal... I MEAN standstill.
You'll also be able to start dashing in Rage mode after it if you hold a direction after the Y press.
