Texas Winter Storm 2021, Never Seen THIS In Texas, CRAZY!

  • No power, no food, no water, and an epic disaster!
Last week the entire state of Texas was hit with an epic winter storm. Many news outlets have called the Texas Winter Storm of 2021 the "storm of the century" or a 100-year storm. True or not, it was crazy and was easily the worst winter storm I have ever experienced and I've lived in Texas my entire life.
I knew the Texas Winter Storm of 2021 was going to be bad but I didn't anticipate how bad it would be and while I thought we were well prepared we were not prepared for losing power and water for five days. I learned some valuable lessons about preparing for a winter storm and won't let this EVER happen to me again. I'll be much better prepared next time. I lost power and water for five days.
This video shows something crazy that I never thought I would see in Texas, recaps some of the events from my week living through the Texas Winter Storm of 2021, how we managed to get by and what has happened since.
Some of the questions I've been getting from others:
Has anyone died in Texas from the cold? ... Yes there were many deaths from the Texas winter storm of 2021.
When did the Texas winter storm hit? .. Sunday, February 14th, 2021
What city in Texas got the most snow? ... Abilene Texas got 14.8 inches of snow. That's about 3 hours west of me.

I'm from NYC but I spent the past five months in TX (November - March) and I couldn't remember the last time I'D experienced -3 degrees, LOL. We didn't have power for four days and then when it came back on, we lost water for the next five. Unfortunately, we didn't have firewood or generators where we were (in an apartment in Plano), so that was a bummer because we did have a fireplace in our apartment. But you gotta admit - Valentine's Day was super amazing! The nightmare really only started on the 15th after the snow ended and the temperatures plummeted.
Despite the hardships of that week, six inches of snow in Texas on Valentine's Day was beautiful and romantic for my wife and me.

It looks like Ontario , except we get loads of snow. I now understand why some southern homes have a fireplace. Just in case. wow Texas! You might like to try a small insert woodstove , it would sit right in the fireplace . The woodstove takes less wood and radiates heat much better. In fact if I lived there I would get one installed as part of my emergency plan.

Indeed. Much recommend them. Woodstoves both heats better than an open fireplace, controls fire decidedly more safely, gets rid of smoke if "installed properly!" more safely, and as long as it's burning, can cook on it without changing it much or not at all. Aaaaand, you keep water on it to boil and can go on drinking hot beverages of your choice continuously, my preference being teas. Cooking beans is a child's play. Put the pot with ingredients on it. Put some more wood in it. Forget it until a delicious smell comes, a few hours later. Got any rice besides hopefully? Done.
All and all, if installed properly, wood stoves are a must.
our house had one with an oven at our childhood kitchen, which was our sort of the real living room of the house, with a couch and such. Even though our usual kitchen stove was a gas stove, I loved it when mom used it. Was a few weeks a year, but it was never uninstalled.
If one desires, one can instead install a charcoal stove too. All things above aside from oven maybe, apply. And coal being more dense calory wise, needs less storage area for more heat energy. But installation becomes more important otherwise air safety might get compromised. If done correctly, it's much better for really cold days.

Soon as the water starts warming back up the fishing will improve. I'm glad you and the family make it thru the cold spell. Finally after 17 days of below 0 temps and 20+ inches of snow its finally warming up hear in Indiana. Our temps during the day are in the low 40's now. Wife and I Prayed for you all.
