I'm with you on the Traction Avant! One of the most gracefully styled cars EVER. If you want to see one in a comedic role, watch Hitchcock's "To Catch a Thief," where the detectives use one to chase Cary Grant and Grace Kelly all around Monaco. Great '50s style.

I too love Citroëns. As you may remember, I was the Parts Man at one of the last franchised Citroën dealerships in North America.

When did your dealership give up the Cit??? Remember, all of the parts books were in French only??!!

The last Citroën cars were sold in the US in 72. Dealers could legally retain their franchises much longer. Overseas Motors was sold at the end of 1982 and that ended the franchise. The parts catalogs were printed in multiple languages, not just French. @@carshowreporter

Gran Turismo, the dealership I worked at switched from Citroen and Lotus to Honda in 1974. I remember some of my books where in French. I think the last, official year was '73. I remember the big, rubber, overriders on the front bumpers of the DS and SM.

72 models were the last Citroëns officially sold in the US. 1972 US Federal regulations required a front bumper that could withstand a 2.5 mph impact,
hence the larger bumper guards on some cars. 1973 models were required to have a 5 mph bumper and a 2.5 mph rear bumper, and also introduced bumper height standards. Citroën could not meet the hight requirements without eliminating the hydragas suspension, or fitting tow truck or snow plow style bumpers, so they noped out of the US. @@carshowreporter

The gray DS 21 is euro spec. I can tell by the recessed rear turn signals.

Europe also had the covered headlights and, later, the inside light turned with the front wheels. We were stuck with the round sealed beams.... sa la vie...
