- Buckeyes are like peanut butter balls that didn’t get all the way dipped in chocolate. They’re no bake, SUPER-EASY to make and ultra snackable. As an added bonus you can make them in advance and pull them out of the fridge at a moment’s notice.
Full Recipe: preppykitchen.com/buckeyes/
Peanut butter and chocolate are a match made in heaven so who could resist a buckeye or two?? They taste like peanut butter cups with an emphasis on the peanut butter! Not too sweet, really creamy, no bake, and so satisfying.

I didn't know at the time I shot this video that it would be the last I'd shoot in this kitchen. We have wanted to live and raise our kids on a farm on the east coast for quite a while and when the chance presented itself we just said lets do it and do it now! I believe sometimes in life you just have to go for it and make the life you want to live happen. We lived in this house when we got married, when we had our kids, and when one day Brian said to me "Why don't you try making videos of your recipes?" Though I was a terrified deer in headlights, I'm so glad I gave it a go because thats how I got to meet all of you. I can't tell you how much I enjoy being in the kitchen with all of you week after week as we celebrate our love of good food. You see, I believe one of the best ways to show people you care is to go to the effort of making a lovely meal for them and I love being able to help you all do that for the people in your lives. So as we say goodbye to this kitchen, my heart is filled with so much gratitude for the opportunity it gave me and at the same time so much excitement for whats to come. ❤️John
I’m really glad you get to do what you love ❤️
Preppy Kitchen I love your videos!!!
Your videos are so fun to watch, and everything looks soo yummy ❤
You're such a ray of sunshine, glad to hear you're loving your life and doing the things you want to do. Even if every time you post a video you threaten my diet.
Love your recipes and wishing you all the best. Can’t wait to make this recipe.
I love it when John mentions the mistakes of baking he's committed in the past. Helps me a lot to avoid doing the same. Thank you so much!!
6:57: Is no one going to comment on: "So my balls - (pause) - of peanut butter..."
I noticed that too. LMAO 😂
I scrolled to comment about that lmao! Beat me to it
LMAO I was just about to say that 😂
Nope, not touching that! LOL!!
still laughing at that lmao
Buckeyes are a nut-like seed from the Horse Chestnut or Buckeye Tree that look just like the candy but unlike your beautiful confection, are not edible. While I’ve heard of black eyed pease and buck eye beans, I’ve never heard of Buckeyed peas, and neither has google. Sorry if this reads as snarky, I totally don’t mean it to. Love that you shared your recipe for buckeyes and can’t wait to see the new kitchen!
Correct. The buckeye tree is the state tree of Ohio (hence Ohio State Buckeyes) and these look like the perfectly round version of their large fruits/ nuts. (Unless you're me who accidentally makes them very oblong and lopsided LOL) Thanks John! Love your videos!
Each of John's Buckeye's: Perfect Walnut Shape
Mine: Walnut Shape, Marble, finger, Tire....😂🤣😂
LMAO!!! Mine too. Towards the end I get tired of making them and lose my patience. Lol I can totally relate.
😂
😂😂😂😂
And little ones are perfect for killing the craving to scarf more than 1 or 2 or 3...
I am a Buckeye from Ohio and we make these all the time. They are actually named after the nut, Buckeye’s!
They are especially popular during football season. Go Ohio State Buckeyes !!!!!
Go Buckeyes! ❤🏈

Instead of any salt, use Wolverine tears. It's fairly inexpensive due to the supply.
@@jeffersonholland9797 Yeah but, the Wolverine tears may have a lil blood in the salt. lol AND, those tears will definitely taste like they've had the crap beat out of them. No can use. lol
These are a staple here in the buckeye state; my husband can eat a whole batch in one sitting.
When he said "so my balls" then looks at the camera and says "of peanut butter". He is human like the rest of us.
That did make me giggle. I just love this guy!!
I went straight to the comment section looking for this comment! Haha! I love this guy. He's smart and his personality is fun.
I cracked up too.
Lol 😂
🤣🤣🤣🎄❤❤🎄🎄
I'm from the buckeyes state and I make candy buckeyes every Christmas.. I use a small cookie scoop to measure out my peanut butter balls it makes it so much faster.
You can tell that he truly LOVES cooking that he enjoys the little mistakes and appreciates that tiny vanilla drop
My grandsons love these, thank you Tracey from Austin Texas😍😍
"I am not living that shortening life" I approve 🤣
Is anyone else embarrassed at how much they are crushing on this guy?? ; ) When I make one of his recipes, my husband will ask, "So did you get this recipe from your boyfriend??" Wouldn't it be a wonderful thing if everyone we came across in life had this much warmth & positivity??
😊
Hi John. Just watched your buckeye video. Perfect!BTW, Tjey are called buckeyes because they look exactly like the nut from a buckeye tree. It’s an Ohio thing. All Ohioans make buckeyes. As kids we strung the nuts and made necklaces. The buckeye is the Ohio state tree. Love your videos. They are so complete with measurements and dire cations. I’m 90 years old and still learn from you, my favorite chef and baker!
I’d never heard of these until a friend gifted me some for Xmas. I loved them so and after a few years she moved away. Now I can make them!
I could see being Besties with you!! My best girlfriend was my friend Buzz who taught me a lot about things I didn't know about people, life and such that my parents kept me sheltered from the things they didn't understand. I love your videos and could see myself assisting you in the kitchen or showing you some of my favorite dishes that I've created. Much love and I'm a forever FAN!
Oh John, I stumbled upon your videos and absolutely love them!! And your quirky humor!...
I wish you and your family nothing but the best, and hope you return in your new kitchen! Would love to see you, and the new kitchen, again! 💜
Made these several times and this recipe is hands down, the best so far! Thanks
He’s def the best baking channel in my opinion cause he has such a great and funny personality and so it’s never boring 😂
I’ve never made a cookie a day in my life. I love Buckeyes. You did a great job explaining and made it easy for guys like me who are not good at making cookies. Mine turned out great using your recipe. Thank u!
Your video is my second one about this recipe, and yours is tops! I love the hint about not using the freezer because they will sweat, and the addition of vanilla sounds good. Thanks.
I cant tell you how much I enjoy your videos. The way you explain everything. Your videos are a definite go to when i need help. I have a small home based baking business and I find myself always pushing myself out of my comfort zone lol. After watching your videos it inspires me that i can do it. Thank you
You are awesome! I am making these for my family this weekend. Love your style, personality, and approach... you should easily get your own cooking show
These are my son's faves. I will have to make some for him. Thanks for sharing John! Love you videos!
Thanks for the helpful hints. I've been making these for years and you've made it that much easier for me. Merry Christmas from Kentucky to you and your family and might I just add, you've got a wonderful family to boot.
I’m from Ontario, Canada and hadn’t heard of buckeye’s until the recipe started showing up on my recommendations more than once these past few months. You have always been the most entertaining, clear and precise baker to watch so it was your recipe I followed. They turned out great and look just like your’s and taste fantastic. They will be served with the other cookies on the cookie platter Christmas Day. Thanks for sharing and Merry Christmas to you and your’s.
You are so fun to watch! Love your videos, John. I hope the move has gone well...can’t wait to see the new kitchen. I also hope to see an update on all the animals 🐓 🐐 🐕. Best wishes to the whole family! ❤️ from 🇨🇦
I have used different recipes over the years and not one came out as delicious as this one. The peanut butter was just right and didn't give me heartburn like the other recipes. Thank you
You made me just go into fits of laughter when at a point (I shall not mention where) you paused, realized what you were saying and corrected course. Oh thank you for the great hilarity! You are a doll.
Thank you so much for not using shortening!
I used this video to make Buckeyes, just now! Thank you!! I was able to make 23 very smooth Buckeyes by following this recipe and direction. 😊
Thank you for your recipes. Merry Christmas!
I bought your book. I follow you on CZcams. I am constantly printing out recipes to try. I enjoy your way of cooking. Thanks John
ooh one of my faves! anything peanut butter is awesome.
His innuendo is so subtle but it's there! Anyway can't wait to see your new kitchen and more of those fab recipies!
I just made these and they came out so good! Thanks chef 💗
Loved the suggestion to use coconut oil to thin the chocolate AND the tip to smooth over the toothpick hole! Thanks. So enjoy your videos! Looking forward to seeing you in your new kitchen.
We made these today, both girls 7 and 5 had great fun, cheered up a stormy afternoon in rural France. X
You make me smile John, love watching you on here x
You Always make me smile! Thanks for that and I love this recipe. I can’t wait to see what you have planned for your next video in your new kitchen. CONGRATULATIONS!
I truly enjoy your videos. They
answer all of my questions. And I enjoy the little added humor. Thank you.
My husband made these, and they are to die for!! Thanks, John! 😳 I WAS doing great on my low carb diet. Past tense. 😋
John, whenever you do recipes I LOVE to bake them. Congrats for a great recipe 👏👏👏
Love you John and your recipies, and you make these videos so fun to watch!
I watch tons of your videos, you are truly talented!
Conveniently, I have a 2tsp measure cookie scoop. I guess it’s a sign I need buckeyes in my life 🤭
John, I just discovered your channel and I am hooked! Your tutorials are so professional and well executed. Love your great recipes and your cheerful humorous personality too! Thanks for sharing. Happy Holidays!
I'm in the UK and have never heard of these, but they sound delicious and I can't wait to make some 😍
Thanks for all the tips. I've made these many years ago - no problem. I decided to make them again a couple of years ago and it was a nightmare. The chocolate melting part was a disaster. If there was something I could do wrong I probably did it. Thanks for the tips on melting chocolate and using the glass instead of a wide bowl. I may have to try these again this year. You make it look as easy as I remember, except for that one time.
Haha! I do the same thing with vanilla! I cannot wait to try this!
I am definitely going to try this recipe, I imagine it's like the peanut butter cups which I LOVE. Can't wait to see your new kitchen, congratulations! And thank you!
These look amazing! I'm always looking for quick treats to make! 😃
Ah! They look sooo good, and they're gluten free!😋 thankyou John, love to you & your family & everyone who loves John xxxx
You're so precious!! I love watching you joke in the kitchen and your stuff looks so awesome.
The most important part of this video (for me) is 6:35. I am glad you mentioned that, because I have put these in the freezer in the past (before seeing your video), and they did just what you said they'd do: Sweat. These look delicious. Thank you for sharing. Thumbs up.
I totally chuckled out loud when you patted on the vanilla as a cologne!! 🤣
I love your recipes and your dry sense of humor😂😂
I used to make something close to this about 40 years ago. I used 2 sticks melted butter and I added 2 wax packs of finely crushed Graham crackers the other ingredients were about the same and the result was more like a Reeses pb cup. I used to show up at parties with them and I'd overhear others say "IT'S THEM"!!! I made them much smaller and would pop them into individual bon bon festive fluted paper cups and would present them in small gift boxes of about 20 pieces. It's been so long since i last made these but I do remember using candy makers wax in the coating to give them a gorgeous sheen. Yours looked so good as well!
I love your honesty about things that don't always turn out. It makes me feel like less of a doofus. Lol...I get orders every Christmas from relatives that I have to make these. Mine aren't as pretty as yours but they sure taste good. But hey, I am improving my kitchen skills. Yesterday I made Sea Salt Pretzel cookies. I had to brown the butter, which I had never done before, and it was a huge success. Gave some to my parents and they ate them all the same night!! Mine are almost gone too. I love it. Happy hubby and son. Lol I will take that last huge buckeye you did, please.....
⭐️ 500k subscribers! So proud of you! And these look delicious! ⭐️
Watching this made me really happy! Every year around Christmas time, I would make buckeyes with my Oma. It was a huge family ordeal and we all got together once a year to do it. She's since passed away due to cancer, but my family still makes buckeyes every year in her honor. We love to share the recipe with others and share the buckeyes we make with our friends! While I know this isn't her recipe (obviously!) it's nice to see the recipe get shared! Hopefully this will inspire some family traditions as well! I love watching your videos, but this one is just special to me. Thanks for always working so hard and sharing yummy recipes with us! Good luck with the move as well!
Love your videos. Entertaining and education and the touch of vanilla....perfect😋
Going to try these! I love peanut butter and they seem easy.

They’re so good dipped in white chocolate too! Thanks for the recipe, it’s been a few years since I made them and I needed a refresher course!!
Not a buckeye if dipped in white chocolate.
I love to brown my butter when making these and it makes them so tasty!

I am definitely getting your cookbook for myself for x-mas. Already subscribed. So much fun. Take care, lots of love to you and your whole family from Czech republic. :-)
So cute! Thank you for sharing. Awww well it's an amazing video to end it off with. Looking forward to see your new kitchen and hope you are having fun on the east coast.
I grew up in Ohio, and we made Buckeyes every Christmas! I love your channel!
Thank you, John!
I love that...eat the ugly one :) I do that too! To just "get rid" of it :)
Yes, I too frequently make that sacrifice. lol
I never get to eat the ugly ones, my hubby snags em before I know what's happened! LOL
Super easy recipe and thanks for the tips !
Bravo c est magnifique 👏👏👏👏
I made these. So easy and really good!!!!!! I gave them as a gift !
I make these...especially at the holidays but they are ALWAYS the first thing to go at a bake sale! Plus they make great gifts. And, my family likes them frozen so I usually keep them in there.....but they usually don’t last long.
John, your recipe is just a little different from what I use so I may have to try it. Can’t wait to see what your new kitchen looks like - I’m sure who ever is moving into your old house will feel some very good “kitchen karma” Peace & best wishes.
Merci pour la recette❤️
Yessss! I love buckeyes as an Ohioan especially!
Awwww, please continue to share with us. Good luck😊
Love this. It’s a great idea for party tables
Love these and love your tips!!
YUMMY!
thank you for sharing all your recipes with us I save all your videos.
Good luck to you and your family on your next journey in life 💜
I want to try making mini buckeyes, this recipe looks so fun!
Amazing video
Definitely try
Oh my word I was looking for this recipe. Thank you, thank you
These were so good. The first 10 or so were made exactly as written above. And then I noticed I still had a lot of chocolate left so I threw in a few peanuts to snack on. When I resumed dipping the peanutbutter balls one fell off the tooth pick(so it was covered in chocolate with no peanut butter showing) and into the chocolate covered peanuts, that determined the fate of the rest of the bunch! Love both ways😉
Thanks and enjoy the ranch!❤
"A bumpy texture, to the balls." He's such a pro, barely cracked a smile. ;)
My mom made these every year but called them peanut butter balls and they were dipped all the way without leaving an empty space. She made boatloads. I used to help her roll them out. My sister took over making them after my mom passed but now she quit making them so I'm doing them thus year. We don't have kids and I don't think my doggies would be good assistants. LOL Can't wait to try them!
Those look fantastic, I love peanut butter and chocolate together. Here in Australia, these are un heard of, but I would love to try these out. Thank you
Not too many Ohio fans in Australia these days? 😁😁😁😁
Yum! I have not so fond memories of rolling out large batches of these for my grandma at her kitchen counter. She actually adds a bit of paraffin wax to the chocolate for that perfect snap when you bite into it. Sounds weird but it works.
Hannah Quinn my grandma added paraffin too!
Hannah Quinn also added the paraffin at my house growing up.
I add the wax too.
You did an awesome job on that delightful goodies.
Thank you so much! Great easy recipe, I am making some with Skrewball peanut butter whiskey as a modified bourban ball treat for peanut butter lovers.
