Welcome to Malaysia!
There is a state in Malaysia called Melaka (Malacca) which was colonised by the Portuegese back in 1511 to 1641. There is a settlement (village) in the state populated by their descendants (we called them Serani, a mix of Portuegese and local women back in the days). Some of them still speak old Portuegese mixed with Malay language. The language is called Cristang. Malacca is about 2 hours away by bus. You can also see an old Portuegese fort front gate and church in the historical area in the middle of Malacca city.
Due to Portuegese influences, there are quite a few of Portuegese words which have been absorbed into Malay language. The words include Queijo (Keju), Padre (Padri), Armario (Almari), Bandeira (Bendera), Igreja (Gereja), Bahulu (Bolo), Kereta (Carreta), Varanda (Beranda), Camisa (Kemeja) and a few more.
