Shoutout to the Patels and the Executive Inn. They provided a safe place for me and my 4 kids to live for 3 years, until we could get out of Maryland and get home. Many low income motels provide safe havens for domestic abuse victims. It was back during the time you put out your "Crusty Pillows" video. My daughter and I passed you on the stairs. One of the cars in the back lot near the dead wing (which has since been removed) that you pointed out as being "old" was ours. Today we own our own home, no mortgage, and we live like normal people. We do still have the car. The boys (now men) rebuilt the engine and transmission.
I am both very grateful for the time we spent at the Executive, and am very grateful I will never have to spend another night there.

Dukes motel has been around for a long time!
Back in 1962-63 my dad would stay there when he was dating my future mom.
He would drive from Philly to Baltimore to visit her before they got married.
She grew up right down the road on 62nd street. (Maryland Manor)
As others have pointed out, the guy at the 2:46 mark is referring to drugs with the "boy-girl" comment. Boy is heroin and girl is coke. He was expecting the driver to come back and say something like "girl" or "good girl", but when he said "boyS" the guy was tipped off that the driver was a pretender and backed off.
I used to live at the infamous Spenard Motel in Anchorage. One night a man rented a room below me, opened the back window and started slamming a pipe on the sill, screaming "CRACK WH*RES!" He was calling for them. And indeed they did arrive. As did APD a few hours later. The cycle of life.
man those little flower boxes really transformed the vibe of that motel, went from trashy motel to charming motel lol. just goes to show you how little changes really transform a place like that.
The dirty windshield was a clever way to blend among your surroundings. You should look into getting a hood car just for these missions. A Nissan altima with 3 doughnut spares and mulit-colored body parts would do the trick.

Dan, I don't know how you make these videos so entertaining and beautiful to look at even though you're filming from your car in the most run down places. The slow pans across the motel rooms with the gorgeous cloudy moon in the background, its so good!
There's a certain feeling attached to this video that I can't really explain. American cities has this kind of a movie-like charm to them that I find fascinating. The contrast between the rich and the poor is so extreme and visceral. It's extremely sad and yet somehow I find something beautiful in it.

That hotel look sketchy as f**k and those birds are loud even at night wow. By the way my mom works with homeless people in California in the Bay Area to get them on the right path and help get them a place to live. They struggle everyday trying to quit and my mom said most of the time it's a fentanyl problem that makes people act crazy. May God bless these souls because they really need help.

dan please come down to lovely Alabama to feast your eyes on all the lovely places to see in Tuskegee, most of the town is abandoned other than directly around the university, and even then the university has 10 ft tall spiked fences to keep people out. it is a truly incredible sight to see the state of the entire town as it sits

I love this. Years ago a old friend and I use to drive around at night in our town and neighboring towns just to do it out of boredom. Some places are sketch for sure! We have some still left in my hometown of Longview Texas. All down hwy 80 are all the old motels that double as brothels'. Some places are pretty gross and sad.

I love these vids. I'm a single woman and wouldn't dare go around these types of places and explore, as it's super dangerous. That's why it's so nice that other people like Dan upload them for me to watch safely from home.
My lord we had so many parties at that Motel in the beginning. It was The Beltway Motel for the longest time.

They are mixing fentanyl with a horse tranquilizer and its the tranq that makes them move abnormaly. It also leaves scab like wounds because the tranq can settle into any area of the body and sit and basically rot.

There was a place in Wichita, Kansas called the Auto Motel on North Broadway that was SUPER sketchy. The residents would all sit outside of their doors and guzzle cheap beer and smoke meth. What a crowd.
