    • @dirtypure2023
      @dirtypure2023 Před 7 lety +14

      Dan K What you're describing is a concept that has been explored at length in various science fiction stories, and goes by the moniker _pre-crime_ (or in other words, the use of artificial intelligence methods as a means of "predicting" a criminal act before it actually occurs, and then charging the "criminal" with a crime that never occurred).
      I don't know about you, but I'd rather not live in a society in which an artificial intelligence has the power to label anyone a criminal based on parameters it chooses, and in which no one is allowed to defend themselves in a court of law. Maybe it's just me?

    • @danzwku
      @danzwku Před 7 lety +9

      Michael K well if you predict it you can't charge them before they do it. but you can try to prevent it.

    • @dirtypure2023
      @dirtypure2023 Před 7 lety +16

      Dan K Well it depends on the extent to which the state trusts and/or relies upon the technology. It's not too hard to imagine the steady erosion of habeas corpus (right to a fair trial) as authorities become increasingly dependent on the technology both within the realm of law enforcement and beyond. It could lead to a society in which citizens are conditioned to put all their faith in the AI, and accept its decisions and judgements as the word of god. See the film Minority Report, or the anime Psycho Pass as examples of what such a society might look like. It's more plausible that it seems at first.

    • @danzwku
      @danzwku Před 7 lety +2

      thanks for the recommendations. well i suppose we should remember not to charge them before they act and just try to prevent it instead. then figure out why they resorted to crime in the first place and try to change their situation.

    • @dirtypure2023
      @dirtypure2023 Před 7 lety +4

      Dan K I agree. Assuming first that artificial intelligence will at some point in the be capable of making reasonably reliable predictions about future criminal acts, the focus then should be on understanding what combination of factors cause individuals to choose crime, and to then limit or at least attempt to reduce the effect of those factors on society at large (easier said than done). Requiring a "pre-criminal" to to psychological evaluations and counseling in order to "fix" their disposition toward crime is a scenario that comes to mind, but again, even _that_ seems like a very slippery slope which, at best, is a violation of the individual's privacy. At worst, it's an outright subjugation of an entire populace. I think we had best be very careful with this technology.

    "Simulating future moments from an image", as a video editor I would fucking love this! Especially because, for example, sometimes you want to "give a little movement" to an image, and nowadays you don't have many options. This would be especially useful when making, for instance, a documentary about the past, in which you don't have videos to illustrate a scene, but only image.

    I can say already this leg/limb technology is wonderful. Maybe even more so because I'm currently laying mostly, allowing another tibia facture/malunion, to heal. This was a very painful, very invasive surgery. Took a rod out of the bone, put a plate along the side and did bone grafting. Three months non weight bearing afterward alone. This is the second time repairing this leg in seven years and also I had a second procedure done on the left leg years ago. Point blank, This is awesome hope inspiring info, for people who have to ask when will, enough be enough. Some never even get to have that question as an option who cannot save the limb at all to begin with. Having this as a future option is amazing. Accidents happen in the literal blink of an eye. You only get one of everything once. This looks to be the next best thing.

      Android Khan >> Only if we let them do so. Only if we refuse to move on. Yes, jobs will be lost. They have been lost since the Industrial Revolution in the late 18th century (pretty much 200 years ago). You wanna know what we need to do to avoid all that bad stuff? We need to shut out mouths, cause the forward movement of technology will not stop, so we need to boot up our brains again and think about jobs that Robots cannot take over, as well as making ourselves firstly Cyborgs and then robots. Otherwise future AI will become Skynet.
      Because here's our choices. We can either stop all research, grow incredibly dumb and die off all of us... OR we can get our shit together and do something about this. Make our lives move with the new Technologies. Staying in the stone age has no benefits whatsoever.

      @Juggernautdemon Před 7 lety +18

      No, there is a general agreed upon definition of what an AI is. It has to be able to "think" for itself as well as being able to improve itself. Everything that we have had thus far has just been hardcore scripting.

      machine learning its not the only kind of AI, as a professional I can tell you that there are a lot of interpretations of what an AI should be, but in my opinion the most accurate meaning its "A software that its able to simulate tasks that only humans or other biological beings are capable of" such as predict what should happen next in a still image, of course, if you look under the microscope everything could be tell as a "advanced script" even us, the brain uses complex physical and chemical reactions to sustain a software that is among many other things, capable of recognizing patterns and predict them into the future.
