This song was the only highlight of 2021. I heard it and loved it immediately after never hearing of this band.

Never could into Rush? Probably won't get Voivod either. Both canadian monstrosities. Great bands.

Voivod are from Québec where progressive rock was very big in the 70’s, hardcore punk and NWoBHM in the early eighties. Voivod started out different from everyone and have remained so.

Voivod have been around since the 80s, they've gone through a history of style development from raw punky thrash to super complex prog thrash to more easily accessible somewhat alternative metal, but actually they don't fit any drawer. It's totally ok to not get into them. But if you do, this is a hell of a rewarding piece of art. And also they are incredibly great guys. down to earth, really positive. In every second you just see how much they love what they are doing (saying this after having seen them live for about a dozen times over the decades).

I give you credit for trying out Voivod and understanding that it isn't for you. You did nail it I think, but everything you hate about them is exactly why I love them till death!! People that love them have their brains moving at a million miles a minute and those that don't get it are often left confused because of the rapid rate of change and evolution of sound. I'm glad you recognize that their psychic output does not match your own.

Their album Nothingface took quite a few listens to appreciate, but with that prerequisite this album is amazing.

Voivod is a very old band. I remember I was listening to them on early 90`s. For me they are sort of Pink Floydish (their trippy period). And they definitely are their own genre. Weird and complicated music - not catchy, but intellectual. I am sire Voivod is a music for musicians )

The most obvious influence is Igor Stravinski. If you want to categorize voivod, the category would be "sci-fi neo-classical prog punk metal".

Voivod has been around for a long time, and their sound has changed many times over the years. The one constant is that it's always weird. It doesn't matter what album you check out, it's always going to have that same weird vibe that you hear in this song even if the style is very different.

Look, you don't have to apologize for not liking Voivod. They're a band specifically designed to NOT liking it initially, BUT if you play it 10, 20 times, it becomes a giant of a thing. And you shouldn't categorize it as 'thrash' or 'progressive metal' or whatever. Voivod throughout their carrer had eras, like Rush, change, improvement, looking for their sound, not just playing it safe and making noise. You can't just play a few songs once and be done with it, not with Rush or Voivod. Their sound is unlike any other. Ask Rush and Voivod fans and they will tell you it takes time to properly listen to ALL their albums and experience it fully. Most bands make basically the same thing over and over again with minor improvements, not these. If you don't like, fine, your choice and listen to whatever you like, but this is not a thing you should just dismiss as weird, which it obviously is really weird and GREAT. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. The album will be released in February and then we shall see what Away, Snake and others prepared for us. One song doesn't show what the whole album will be like, it's just a taste :).

I was also super confused when i first heard Voivod, and i didn't like it that much, but i could tell that there was something cool and special about them, and i just kept listening it more and more, and Before i knew it i was completely hooked. Voivod is one of my favorite bands now

Voivod has had several different phases, some of them much less weird, so it’s possible your previous experience was from one of those eras. The last ten years of Voivod have sort of been a return to form, to their weird progressive stuff, which is what most people (including myself) consider to be their best stuff. One weirder song that I think has a great groove and catchy riff as well is 2013’s Mechanical Mind (though you gotta give it about a minute before it really starts swinging’) m.czcams.com/video/U5F4IozEwnw/video.html&pp=ygUWTWVjaGFuaWNhbCBtaW5kIHZvaXZvZA%3D%3D

Wow! That whole bit about trying to get into a band at the beginning of the video? That’s a lot like me!
But I’ve been into Voivod since 1985. So for me, it’s other bands that I struggle with.
Totally digging this? Oh, yeah! That’s why I’m watching your video: to see what kind of effect this band has on people. Most are either wild about it or completely baffled.

@@BaldHeadedMETAL Primus is a hipster jam band that was big in the 90s. Their lead singer is probably one of the best bass players period. Unfortunately when it came to lyrics they were firmly in the Zappa camp. I find them amusing in small doses, but it'd probably drive you nuts
