- Huge warmblood horse panic's and cant be taken anywhere!! The dream was to have an eventer.. But problem is that you cant take him anywhere as he panics in a horse trailer and now wont load. Steve works hard to try and help all involved but knows how dangerous this could be!

This is my daughter and her horse Arty. Steve was amazing, and after a couple of incredibly hairy bolts off the trailer she found Steve and I'm so glad she did. Her heart was broken when she thought she'd never be able to do anything with him, I've genuinely never seen her so distraught 😢. He's a gorgeous chap, incredibly capable, and she really feared she'd not be able to do anything but hack locally with him. Steve's changed all that, and we know that once she's mastered the behavioural issues and got the relationship right, the eventing world will open up for her with this beautiful boy. Looking forward to our second session with Steve, hopefully then we'll have a chilled chappie. 🤞🏻😊
Artie is a beautiful horse and I’m sure the second visit will go great! Tell your daughter to stay strong and never give up!😊😊😊😊.
Lovely ❤ the part 2 will hopefully have some of Robin riding Arty at my place ( if she wants to obviously) and then that is a real world simulation of a trip and and reload. This will be a slow progression but hopefully a great outcome for a lovely mum and her daughter x

why would anyone be happy for someone contracting with the state vowing to give them a share? i think this is horrific. you do not need permission to love someone and you damn sure do not owe the state nothing when they earned none of it. the contract/license isn't a contract between them it's a contract between them and the state. Marriage licenses were issued by the state to prevent near relations from marrying without knowledge and risking major problems with children. There are false theories being spread online about laws (including admiralty laws) based on the work of individuals with rudimentary legal education and possibly mental health issues. Consult a lawyer to understand what laws are in force and apply to a marriage, not badly informed individuals online.

Most injuries you see in trauma centers are not from riding, but from loading/unloading or being in very close quarters with horses. SO dangerous. Glad you are okay!
True. 15 years ago when I had my sweet Haflinger pony, he accidentally broke my left big toe. I was cleaning his left hind hoof in the barn when a small grey pony got loose and ran by the barn door. Nico got spooked (probably thought there was a wolf or so). His hoof came down high speed, landing directly on the end of my toe and he even turned around on that hoof. My leather boot wasn't strong enough to avoid my toe to break. The following ouch-ouch-ouch dance that I performed must have looked hilarious. Was quite painful to walk during the next weeks. Well, 💩 happens, but life goes on
There was an accident here in Australia I remember where a mother got crushed under the ramp when the horse panicked out backwards as she was putting the back up. Imagine the poor daughter who wanted a horse knowing her mum died that way. Parents often try and help even when they may not know anything about horses,. Horses have the fastest reaction time of any domestic animal

After the horse bolted taking Steve with him, I was astounded at the way he brought the horse right back and carried on…I would have needed a minute or two. Shows the importance of getting help from someone with experience as well as the importance of consistency. Awesome video…congrats to Charlotte and Dan!

About the track, we wouldn’t and never have taken him either up or down it, when we brought him here for the first time we took him off in the neighbours yard and I walked him up in hand. Eventually we’re planning to re tarmac it there was just no point for a while with all the hgv lorries coming up for the construction work we have going on and wrecking the track further.

Thank you Steve. As always, you are one-hundred percent correct. From that weird little trailer, to that horribly bumpy driveway, that poor horse was probably traumatized. First and foremost, that trailer is too small for that horse - especially a horse that's claustrophobic. Not only is it one of the strangest trailers I've ever seen, it seems unsafe for a horse his size. People that have never had huge horses, don't know that if you're going to have a big horse, you're going to need to invest in a trailer that he feels safe in - period. Whoever told them that trailer was big enough for an 18 hand horse, needs to have their head examined!
I had an 18.2 hand Warmblood, and a 18 hand Shire, and we ended up getting a three-horse, extra tall, extra wide, with a back and side load and lots of windows so they didn't get claustrophobic. And yes, we opted for a gooseneck. Not only are goosenecks much safer, (especially for the big guys!) they provide a much smoother ride for your stressed out horses. Trust me, it's much less traumatic for them when they can walk in one side, walk through, and walk right out the other. Once we got the bigger trailer, we could literally just say, "load up" and they'd walk right in.
Even with your expertise and training, he is never going to be a hundred percent comfortable traveling in that weird little trailer. Thanks to your help, they may be able to load him, but the poor guy will always be stressed out traveling in that thing. Not to mention, traveling backwards is not how they're designed to travel. Heck, a lot of people can't even ride the subway facing backwards. It's not the natural motion and it's just not fair to your horse. I hope you talked them into getting a much bigger trailer. I think they'd have a much easier time loading him, and they'd eliminate any undue stress placed on him from riding in that weird tiny trailer.
Thankfully, for the horse, I am so glad they contacted you. I've been subscribed to your channel for a long time, and I truly believe you are one of the few actual "horse-whisperers" in existence. I cringe to think about all the poor horses that are whipped and tortured into submission by aggressive trainers. It's heartbreaking to watch. Your training method should be used throughout the world. Frankly, I'm surprised you don't have a million subscribers by now! I try and spread the word and share your channel whenever I can.

Thank you for that perspective. Dog person here and learning from Steve with these videos has been very helpful with dog training as well. Helps me to see from the dog's perspective when I consider techniques and practices. Space issues, even size issues as you described with this trailer can make the difference in getting the results desired.
Thank you for your comments, we will look into a rear loader. This horse however has never travelled in thos trailer yet (he was brought to us in a rear loader that took 4 people to persuade him into), and he was walked up the track to the property. He's not travelled in any trailer on our track. Sadly, the track is not owned by us, it's a farm track we have access rights to, so unless the farmer is happy for us to do work on it, it's not going to change anytime soon. The trailer is an Equitrek Space 511, which we have been reassured is suitable for horses of Arty's size. I think it's hard to see exactly how big it is in the video, but it was definitely too narrow, so Steve's suggestion to move the central divider was a genius mive, plus to quiten the rattling, and take the head divider down. We're hoping these changes will make Arty comfortable enough to travel along sensible roads in this trailer, if that turns out not to be the case, then we'll look at an alternative. He does travel well once he's in, we've witnessed that following him when he was brought home, but we were also reassured it was the case. Fingers crossed we're half way to a happy traveller!
One of my horses prefers to ride butt forward. He will turn around every single time. In both a stock trailer or a 2-horse with a divider.
I get really aggravated when ‘horse’ people think that their way is the ONLY way. In the past I have used a small steel two horse trailer and I felt it good because it held them in and they couldn’t get in trouble. I had a Morgan back then, and was only 14.2H. For years now, 25, I have had a 16’ stock trailer with two sections. It is 6” taller to accommodate mule ears. That said, when given a choice, they PREFER TO RIDE BACKWARDS. Now I have just the one 16H riding mule, who has lots of sense and I’ve had for 20 years, I will tie to one side with enough slack so he can decide which way he wants to ride, but he still always chooses to ride BACKWARDS. You call their trailer “weird” but there is a seat for every ass, so if it works for them, don’t be so harsh with your criticism, and this is the nicest I can be.
Same. Every horse I have put in a stock trailer turns around if they can.

Yes, we’ve all been there! 28 year old ex-racehorse 18.2 hands, I’m 5’2”, who was used to getting away with pushing his weight around for years, used to drag me quite a bit. Wish I’d had SYH videos back then! They can be unstoppable. Sometimes all you can do is laugh. Crying would be pointless, right. Laugh and try again. Very good to know it still happens to the pros though😁

Another great video. I have to say the panic scene reminded me of a time I was driving with my friend behind a horse trailer that had picked up her off the track thoroughbred who was returning from a trainer. The back top portion of the trailer was open; we had just left the stables. It was a long time ago but I think they had trouble loading. Anyway,, we saw him rear up as high as he could -- we could see his whole back. We signaled the driver to stop and my friend made the decision to ride in the trailer with him for the hour drive back home. I was nervous for her and it turned out all right---he was calm with her in there. But later I found out she could easily have been trampled to death. Very stupid decision! Thanks for your warnings, Steve.
Good grief, little lady big horse and what a problem. He seems to be getting used to the idea, one load at a time. In time they are going to have a blast, maybe even be Olympians! Well done, you stayed upright, pretty amazing considering how fast he moved off.
Quiting when things are working and harmony prevails! Stop.....and do it again .....and again! When I was training hirses I used to satmy to myself and others; " patience is a virtue"!!

Hi Steve and Tanya, I wanted to let you know that I've convinced my daughter to watch some of your videos. She recently got a new OTTB who was supposed to be a perfect loader and maybe he was when he was going on a bigger trailer but was reluctant to load on ours. A couple of hours of ground work in the week before and after 3 sessions he now consistently gets on. Still working on staying on till everything is closed up but making great progress! Thanks Steve!

Its amazing how the right handling and confidence gives a horse . Can not wait for part 2 , i think she should maybe ride the horse in the morning before he travels it all helps . Been here before . But well done he looks a great type and it be just so cool to be able to take him out and do stuff .
We parked our horse trailer in the pasture & fed our horse in it.
Started with hay just inside the doors. Gradually halfway in, so she learned how to back out after eating.
Now we just throw some grain in the front feeder & she loads herself.
Another great video! I hope the owners study this and how you handled him. It would be great if they watched some of your others videos too.

I was very frightened for Steve when the horse bolted. Steves work can be so intensely dangerous. I think Steve is very brave to take on troubled horses and he has to be smart, talented and experienced to do so. Also, you have to have a great wife with nerves of steel like Tanya. Thank you BOTH!

My families horses always load perfectly ,,my Sister ( also a professinal class1 driver ,says " Drive slower and smoother ,,,(once they are actually loading ,) Her first journeys are always a drive out and staight back home , until they just stroll in ,,also it can be made a feeding station where they go for some treats or a meal each day ,,but loading them once ,and going for a drive ,elliminates the stress of wondering if they willl load again at the end of the day..
After that the ride is everything ,,she got asked so many times ,she would say ,
""if you can drive with your coffee on the dash and not spill it ,your horse will load ,"😂

Authenticity shines! Thank you for always showing us the whole story. So many CZcams trainers edit out the parts when a horse gets the best of them, or show a pre-trained horse. I have a horse similar (but 2 hands shorter!) to Arty on the trailer, and this gives me some great ideas - I am working with a good trainer as well. Best of everything with Arty- he'll be a fab eventer. What a great video! So glad that Arty is a good temperament horse. Looks like he learns quickly and even wants to please the human. I have to say that, because when you had to let go of him, to keep from kissing that building. He didn't really try very hard to break away again. He truly is a very big horse and can hurt someone without even trying to. Looks like he has some wonderful and caring owners as well!! I also want to say Congratulations to Charlotte and her new husband ( I am sorry I can't remember his name 😮) on their Wedding!!! Sending love to all and can't wait until the next video!!!
