Sentry Box, Parks Peak, Upper Makaroro & Aranga Hut single day loop

It was mid February 2024, weather forecast look promising - great day for a hike.
Earlier in the week I had confirmed with other fellow hikers from the Ruahine Users Group ( / 481888953257892 ) that Mangleton Road was again open to the public. This road as well as others accessing the Ruahine Forest Park had been closed for non residents since cyclone Gabrielle in February 2023.
My goal was to complete a loop that would take me from Sentry Box hut up to Parks Peak, continuing to Upper Makaroro Hut for lunch and a quick rest before venturing to the top of the ridge.
Once on the top of the ridge I continued to Aranga Hut; other than the odd trap and the sporadic bit of pink tape there is no clear track, this track is not maintained. Some navigating experience comes in handy.
Aranga Hut although a derelict hut it would be useful in the event of needing some shelter for whatever reason - must say it's still in way better condition than what Comet Hut was before its relocation and renaming to Komata Hut.
I found myself back at the car park closer to 9PM. Took me 12hr 40 mins to complete the almost 27Kms. Had a lot of fun doing this loop and it was a great way to test the body!
