I love this ship and think she looked even as a museum ship, wonderful and still stirring sight. However, I loathe the glass box tearoom on the upper deck. I know the Britannia team will say ' we need the income it brings' and/or 'she had awnings when the Queen was aboard' but i is not original and ruin the lines of a wonderful ship. On a happier note, I recall one dark November evening, we were the last visitors aboard for a precious 30 final minutes before closing - just one or two staff there - the lights were blazing in every room and I could feel history all around us - the ghosts walking the decks with us in that wonderful place.
I remember Princess Anne saying Britannia should have been scuttled. Seeing how devastated HM the Queen was at the decommissioning ceremony, I tend to agree with her. Another faux pas by decision makers. And lets not forget Britannia made £6 billion a year from trade fairs, which went straight to the treasury, not the Royal family or the MOD.
Hats off to the British for preserving their history. This is what needs to be done to the Queen Mary and what should have been done the the SS United States. They've certainly put us to shame. Even a ship on static display requires good maintenance.
Back in 1997 when the Royal Yacht Britannia was docked at the Port of Manila, Philippines 🇵🇭 for refueling and resupply as it was enroute to Hong Kong for the handover ceremony. We were given a guided tour while in the country and our local media nicknamed it "The Floating Buckingham Palace".
there is a lot of commonsense in this proposal, she needs new engines and turbines, but hell she was Clyde Built. If the US president can have 2 airliners for his own use why can we not get back to sea, a floating embassy for the UK. we waste money on more things, come on, perhaps a public substitution.
Magnus Tveiten we have something called the Labour Party. One of our few faults, oh and politicians who don’t believe in this country, that’s another big fault
Hello The video was made by a production company who purchased the license. Unfortunately we do not have the name of the music but are glad to hear that you like it!
Why did Mr Downie make no mention of the vessel listing to starboard after taking on water and the fire service having to be called to pump the water out after a door seal failed. 🤔
Hello During filming, the Admirals & Officers FML’s were being worked on or in the water and used in the dock. The activity boat was also in the water and used in the dock. The two whalers were still in place. Thank you for watching!
Why would it be taken out of Service and then still used and maintained as a museum? …and here they are repainting the hull and it looks like restoring everything above. Why wasn’t it just scrapped? This is like the Palaces. If the RF were to cease to exist, the palaces and all properties would still have to be maintained. So please tell me what’s the difference? I want to know. …….and why the German music? …..really?
Served on her 1969/1970 fond memories... like watching an old lady in a home now...... so many good times on her.....

I visited the HMS Campania Exhibition ship, as a kid.
Our latest misuse of money, the Q.E.class could do the same office?
£6 billion per year? From WHAT? You better lay off the sauce.
@deeremeyer1749 it was used for trade/defence fairs. Your welcome.

She sailed on the great lakes in the USA!!!
Unbelievable

Not purely as a Royal vessel but for the country. trade missions etc.
It cost to much to put her back to see plus new fire regs
It would be great for Britain abroad
@@tomlucas4890 Britannia was used for trade fairs around the world, bringing in £6 billion a year.
i am suprised UK didnt want to keep her sailing

Simply put, she is too old and is obsolete and because of this, too expensive.

Hello

Royal Yacht Britannia Beethovens 9th does not need a license, it has long slipped into the public domain.
Royal Yacht Britannia oh and are you honestly saying you don't recognise the 9th arguably one of Beethovens greatest and most famous symphony's?!
Beethoven's 9th Symphony, 4th movement.
Why did Mr Downie make no mention of the vessel listing to starboard after taking on water and the fire service having to be called to pump the water out after a door seal failed. 🤔
Nice that you play the Rhodesian national anthem!
Anodes and antifoul that last 14 years?? I Need some of that!!
Divers probably install new anodes once or twice per year depending on how long they last.
Good Germanic music to accompany her.
I was told she was a pretty uncomfortable sea boat.
Not quite sure what use she is?
Anyone else here because of the Crown?
why are the lifeboats missing?

+Royal Yacht Britannia does the ship still move under its own diesel power?
Britannia is now permanently moored in Leith.
+Royal Yacht Britannia I think they should take it out every couple years

Would the US president use this boat and not Air Force one
No. We don't have enough class for that. The SS United States should have become our royal yacht.
Why is the union flag on HMY britannia the wrong way up.
+David Markham because the queen is not on board
It is not inverted. The heavy white stripe above the Cross of St. Patrick (diagonal red cross) is flown against the flag staff.
Hope the tax payer paid for her upkeep
