The first hour of the Gravel World Championships was an absolute war trying to move up from the ~20th row. What an experience this race was! Already excited for 2024.
Wow! If the UCI could get cameras on multiple bikes and broadcast streams like that during a race it would make for some compelling and exciting viewing. Thanks for the inside look - you're one hell of a bike racer!
Ehh they already do this in big WT races. Yeah it’s a crazy look into how tight the pack is but after a little bit it becomes old hat and it’s terrible at conveying the context of the race. Kind of like Ump cam in baseball, neat for 5 minutes and then annoying.
@@vancomycin87they do it at the tour and plenty of other races dude, broadcasting from a gopro or similar LIVE from the bike is not as trivial as u make it seem. things like race radios regularly lose signal in a strung out peloton especially in the mountains. rain or overcast can wreak havoc on the tv motos. you need a stable reliable connection to switch to a live onboard cam with regularity. it's easy to do for track because it's a controlled environment.
cyclocross started as guys riding thru farmers fields etc, this is like the kermesse from hell, i used to say gravel worlds was mickey mouse race, but for whatever reason the riders decided to make it competitive this year and it's way better than previous editions
It’s so epic, so full of our truth. My family and girlfriend has no idea from the sidelines just what we are actually doing. This truly is a beautiful and realistic view of the beautiful thing we call fun. My arm hair is raised just watching and I just got done with a violent and fast gravel ride here in the PNW.
Holy heck. I don't even know what to say here. This is amazing to watch, all the time I'm thinking imagine if USA had started in one of those first call-up rows. This 7 minutes is better than any coverage I watched. Thanks for sharing this.
That was some really fantastic footage! Carnage is the perfect description for it. Love some of those creative lines you were taking! Thanks for editing and sharing this 👍😁
ALL GAS NO BRAKES 🤘🔥🤘🔥🤘. 15 year old me could only dream of doing something as fun and rowdy as this, and 42 year old me appreciates your video recap so I can fantasize and live vicariously through your handlebars.
Blows my mind how there wasn't mass wheel touch carnage in that first 5 minutes of insanity. Saw you this Summer crushing some climbs on our way back through Silverton to Durango.
This footage is so crazy and awesome. UCI needs to figure out how to get footage like this into live broadcasts of events. Thanks so much for sharing, Payson. Amazing.
Holy shit Payson - that was insane. The “Saving Private Ryan” cycling scenes…..as in no way that level of aggression and chaos comes through on TV. Kudos to you and all the Team USA guys and women.
This footage is the best I’ve seen that shows how hardcore gravel racing is. It’s also why I would never want to be at the pointy end of a gravel race.
Europe especially England, don’t have the big wide gravel roads that the US has. They’re much smaller, single track like and are mostly used for walking or farmers. Really working with scraps compared to the US and more northern EU countries
Looks more like a Cyclocross/Crit hybrid. UCI is like the suits in the back office who have no clue what's happening on the operations side making procedural changes.
Thank you for that footage! What a start! Sounds like USA had a strong team. With some more team experience at these types of races USA will only get better. Inspirational riding from you guys!
Insane footage! 🙌🏼 Great riding-getting those passes whenever, wherever and however you can 💪🏼 Shout out to my boy @zachcalton closing the gap and doing it with a smile 😊 Y’all were incredible to watch!
Going to do one or some of the UCI races next year for a better start position? That was my understanding of why you guys were so far back, was lack of UCI points.
Wow, Payson! This looks like flat out pace the whole time. How stressful! I loved this video. It would be great to see ore from the bikes….just like F1. That’s how you get fans.
This year, all the detractors of the UCI worlds gravel can not say a thing. It looks fantastic!!!! it is very pity that the transmission was not early.... in this competition, the first km are so much caos... and exiting
No womens race tv and no apologies for that. But better than last years bike paths. How American events translate overseas is a bumpy road - does Europe even NEED more bike races? Climbing Everest is popular but no one builds a replica in Europe to make the event more accessible.
As a gravel racer, THIS is what it’s all about. Alt lines. Move up in the grass. Mechanicals at km 1. Lined out and hanging on for dear life. No opp for teams to take over. It’s rider v rider. May the strongest survive
Looks pretty much like every Gran Fondo in Italy. Be it Strade Bianche or Nove Colli, if you want to get in front you need iron-elbows and a suicidal line.
Most epic 7 minutes of racing I’ve ever seen!!😮💪🏼
this is just a regular race in italy tbh. racing like this every sunday. not gravel though
@@raphaeltiziani7476 : videos?

It is too obvious for the UCI. What about sock length?

my god, it’s like cyclocross and Dutch amateur road racing had a baby. Totally wild.
Really good editing, watched every second.
hahaha best post ever - and that baby ain‘t happy 😄

Post the full 45 minutes! Really epic racing. Would love to have it on screen when I’m on the turbo during winter! Looked like chaos and fun 😂
I find watching this sort of thing on the turbo raises my HR by at least 10 bpm! Proper racing.

Agree fully. Probably edited it out because it's full of him yelling YO!! GO!!! WTF!!!! to team Lithuania/Cambodia/Vatican city
1:23 casually talking to VALVERDE like that is so cool. Epic video, most interesting POV I've seen in a while.
Course looked way cooler in this footage than I expected.

Seeing power and speed metrics with this in real time would be awesome! Absolutely insane 7min of racing
Thanks for bringing a camera, that was way more interesting to see than any live coverage or highlights.
For some reason, this race reminds me of Megavalanche race...absolute chaos!
This footage is so crazy and awesome. UCI needs to figure out how to get footage like this into live broadcasts of events. Thanks so much for sharing, Payson. Amazing.
That looks awesome. Reminds of Barry Roubaix in 2008. Just people exploding everywhere.
That's bonkers... 6:46 can see Wout along the side in the feedzone getting service.
Holy shit Payson - that was insane. The “Saving Private Ryan” cycling scenes…..as in no way that level of aggression and chaos comes through on TV. Kudos to you and all the Team USA guys and women.
Amazing Insight. Wish the whole peleton had actions cameras. Would be a huge media project for gravel!
The live coverage needs some of this!
bike handling, fitness, teamwork and attacking - wow! So cool to watch.
Can't wait to watch again on the big tv at home!! Crazy footage and insane to see the effort you, Zach, & Alexy threw down
This footage is the best I’ve seen that shows how hardcore gravel racing is. It’s also why I would never want to be at the pointy end of a gravel race.
Absolutely the most brilliant and impressive video that truly captures just WTH we are doing out there… WOW Payson!
Good Lord, Peyson!!!!!! Simply, WOW!!!!
Crazy race, great moves made. fantastic coverage. Well done, Payson, and thanks
Dude! Thank you for your efforts on racing, filming, and sharing this perspective! It’s the best !!
Thank you for this best 7 min of video out of worlds
I really don't think I've ever seen a pace that high at the beginning of a gravel race. WILD!!!
Dang! That’s insane, great to see from your perspective… Respect 🫡
Amazing stuff. If it weren’t for my cat 5 legs, cat 5 cardio, and cat 6 guts, I think I could hang! 😜😵💫
I cannot believe the camera technology we have now. This video is so smooth!
Brilliant insight into the craziness of WC gravel, Thanks
Wow thank you for taking us into that race. Looked insane.
Yes, that absolutely looks like carnage but the course looks so much fun.
Unbelievable entertainment value thanks for the supercut!
That was absolutely riveting, Thank you!
Awesome riding. Intense race for sure. Thanks for sharing 😊
Great footage! Thanks for sharing and representing!
Such a great watch mate loved your race craft too trying everything 🎉
Best seven minutes of race footage. Thanks for the cool upload!
Oh my god! What a battle. Love it.
So many sketchy sections of course there - I hope they learn from this year! Great jungle cross skills by you, Payson!
Holy crap that was amazing footage. Insane bike skills out there.
Fab! ... I did the V50 race on the Sat ... now I realise why my legs were toast and cramping after 2 hours. Thanks for loading this up.
Thanks for posting, looks super intense!
Truly epic. The best race video I've seen in a long time and from the trenches.
The creative lines is the best part! Subscribed for more of this!
Amazing footage with the 360. I was cringing on the couch watching you take some of those alternate lines. You’re an animal🔥⚡️
Crazy - totally crazy. Thanks for the insight.
Momentum is KING, love the speed into the corners and getting off the wheel in front early to make the pass.
Amazing footage, even the sounds are chaotic. Amazing job even surviving to the end.
Fantastic! So exciting to watch! We need more of this really
That was gnarly! I had no idea it was so chaotic and beautiful at the same time.
Thanks for the video! Mega race and great work!! Keep it up!
this is so fun and gnarly to watch, thx for the content!
Europe has a very different definition of gravel!
It was spicy for sure.

@@BIIIKES everyone who lives in the US is scratching their heads with this decision
Alt-Road 😂
OH...I could have watched the entire race from your perspective! Crazy racing!
Dang dude, that was nuts. I hope to see more coverage and looking forward to some podcasts about the event.
This is why you are my favorite gravel racer hands down. I look forward to trying to meet you at Big Sugar this week!
This is awesome. Looks nuts.
All that horsepower causing chaos. Loved it . Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for that footage! What a start! Sounds like USA had a strong team. With some more team experience at these types of races USA will only get better. Inspirational riding from you guys!
The gravel scene is quite big in the US so I guess they have that going for them :)
Thanks for sharing, Payson.
Great video ! insane pace . Congrats
Insane footage! 🙌🏼 Great riding-getting those passes whenever, wherever and however you can 💪🏼 Shout out to my boy @zachcalton closing the gap and doing it with a smile 😊 Y’all were incredible to watch!
That's shine of the best race footage I've seen, and that includes multi million dollar crappy helicopter footage from TdF etc. Thanks!
"Loco."
"Si, muy loco."
Love the spanish dialogue, P!
Excellent footage. Well done!
My god, that was insane. What a badass race!
That gave me flashbacks of being dropped off the back in the Blenheim Park road race 60 years ago where half the course was on gravel.
That was more like a Gravel Crit, bloody hell that was manic ...
Wow, that was Full Grass from the start!
Going to do one or some of the UCI races next year for a better start position? That was my understanding of why you guys were so far back, was lack of UCI points.
Definitely!
This footage had me building anxiety. Crazy effort! Im glad Im slow.
Imagine winning this! Looks like more epic than a TDF stage
Most gnarly gravel video I've ever seen! Super intense. My heart rate did a 7 minute interval just watching.
"Loco", sums it up !
That was cool. Loved watching it.
Wow, Payson! This looks like flat out pace the whole time. How stressful! I loved this video. It would be great to see ore from the bikes….just like F1. That’s how you get fans.
Those narrow turns! So hectic. Love all the creative lines.
AMAZING video, thanks for the content ! Just a pity there was no data. But your written insights are super nice !
How was this filmed? The footage is super stable.
Smiles all the way through. If you survived the carnage there's always gravel dust lung disease🥲
This year, all the detractors of the UCI worlds gravel can not say a thing. It looks fantastic!!!! it is very pity that the transmission was not early.... in this competition, the first km are so much caos... and exiting
Seriously, you call that a gravel race. What a joke.
No womens race tv and no apologies for that. But better than last years bike paths. How American events translate overseas is a bumpy road - does Europe even NEED more bike races? Climbing Everest is popular but no one builds a replica in Europe to make the event more accessible.
Wow! That footage is awesome! Full gas all the way through! You guys are freaking amazing!
That was like 7 minutes worth of train wreck, BANANAS!!!
Well that just looks like a good time 😎
Mostly ; )
Awesome vid, but nuts , lots of crazy turns and narrow roads. So many people clogging up the full road.
Cool video!
Watched it all! 👌
Love seeing how much advantage an actual gravel pro's technical skills and race nous confers with the alternative lines
As a gravel racer, THIS is what it’s all about. Alt lines. Move up in the grass. Mechanicals at km 1. Lined out and hanging on for dear life. No opp for teams to take over. It’s rider v rider. May the strongest survive
No, this isn't what it's all about. Gravel is all about aero bars in mixed gendered pacelines brah.
Wow...madness...crazy...scary and frigging exhilarating ❤
This is way better than the UCI official highlights
Fun watch. Love it!
Looks pretty much like every Gran Fondo in Italy. Be it Strade Bianche or Nove Colli, if you want to get in front you need iron-elbows and a suicidal line.
great video. at 6:46 i saw van aert on the side of the road has a micanical problem or a flat tire
How did you get your go pro on your bike undetected? Mine got litteraly ripped off by a uci official...
So happy to see i am 50 and lack of power to avoid this brutal gift :-)) well done mate Andy congrats for 5h30 riding hard...
Yeeehaa….we need more raw footage! Dope!!!
thanks for sharing - Wow!
