Collecting comics is really a rewarding hobby. And unlike other things like trading cards you can read and enjoy the comics and get value out of them which goes way beyond monetary value. I am happy my videos can bring you a spark of joy during difficult times.
One of the few collectors where the films actually impact their purchases. It’s normally just the speculators and investors that are usually swayed by the announcements.
What people miss about movies and TV shows, even more so than comics, is that not all content is for everyone. It’s ok not to like a show/movie/comic, you can also let other people enjoy it. The issue with movies and tv shows is that they aren’t produced as often and/or creative teams don’t change easily without years between franchises.

Excited to to see you and the Cool Kid back on the hunt in Brooklyn. You find so many great comics every time you go out. Meanwhile I've had a devastating week in which CZcams permanently terminated my God Loves Comics channel just hours after I uploaded a video on The Sexuality of Saga. I'm still imploring them on Twitter to restore it...but it's pretty depressing.
Oh man, crazy thing youtube put this comment into my hold pile as well. That sucks they banned your account did not know, happy you got it back. But that is just crazy they did so for a video on Saga, something very wrong there.
Yeah the whole series has fun cute covers. I picked up #1 last year, one of my favorite covers of that era. And have been slowly collecting them since.
There is something happening almost every weekend. There was also the Bronx comic con going on Saturday which would have been a good show to hit up for comics.
I enjoyed this video and the small comicon vibe. Typically if I were buying comics in person I would ask to look at them outside of the bag, though I didn't notice you do that.
Depends on the comic, I pulled a couple out and checked them and asked on the others if they had anything wrong that I did not see. I did not buy the x-men 94 after looking at it, it was too beat up. The Litttle Max I bought after looking at it, because although is had a bad creasing on the cover it did not seem to break color very much and the page quality was good so I though it would clean up with a press. I forgot to check the inside of the Joe Palooka, the center fold was detached. But it was complete and in pretty darn good shape for a early 1940s comics so I was happy with that.
Looks like you had a nice hunt and fun show, I used to love the New York conventions whenever I got up to NYC. I'm going to be going to my first full scale Comic-Con convention (Greater Austin Comic-Con) since the covid pandemic first came out, I've been to a couple of garage sales and one small comics convention masked and vaccined and boosted, but this will be my first full scale local Comic-Con show and I'm really looking forward to it. I saw some titles I have never seen before - Nuklo, Vulcan, and others from old comic book lines. Interesting. Guess there are other heroes besides DC and Marvel. Thats a good hunt.
19:24 I loved that guy's booth and he was super nice, but I'm not sure if my eyes are deceiving me...is that Impact #1 $550 (in 4.5)? I don't think I've ever seen that book anywhere near that high. I bought the whole 5 issue run on Ebay for about $130 a couple of years ago. Granted in low grade, and #1 even has tape on the spine, but still... that is pricey. Ohhhh, as I was writing this I noticed the sticker he has on it that it's a rare "White Logo" copy.
As for X-Men 94, I probably got about a 3.5-4 (it has some names written in pen on it) but I got it along with 95-100 for $525 total, so definitely a great deal.
I would say his prices tend to be a bit above market, but I think that is normal for most con dealers since most people negotiate hard haha. As for that one comic, I am guessing that version does sell for more. From what I have seen on pricing, anything graded GA tends to sell for a high markup vs raw. I think all the trimming and other restoration that goes on makes people afraid of raw copies so the slabbed stuff goes for so much more. I see all the Fiction house stuff I bought last month in high grade raw around $100 each sell for $200-$500 graded in lower grades etc. So for me personally I like to trust my own knowledge and buy raw and if I buy something restored or in lower grade then I think, overall I am still saving $1000s. I checked heritage and I see a ton of the Yellow Logo Impact #1s sold but don't see any white label ones, just one in a lot of raw copies. So it does seem to be more rare, as for the value he might have put a higher guess price if he could not figure out the current value. Comicbookrealm puts a 4.5 yellow #1 at $63.75 and a white at $85 so they do value the white logo higher. Looks like a Yellow 4.5 graded goes for about $200 so I am guessing the white label should be about $250 so the price is probably a tad high but again its rare enough that it might actually be worth more then I can calculate. Golden age does really jump in values as you go up grade from a 3 to a 4 to a 4.5 etc.
They have it once a year so you can look for the next one next year. There are so many comic related events in the city though you can hunt for other places to check out.

Not sure $420 is good or not but I cant find any solds to figure it out so because of that rarity I am happy.
@@pop-comics I have a Joe Palooka #2 and #3, My 2.0 issue 2 with an Adolf Hitler cover came to $300, And my 3.0 issue 3 with Joe tackling a U-Boat with his bare hands came to $150. Although they I bought them both a couple of years ago.

Way too many artist there for such a small convention and low attendance. And way too little vendors which will be great for those vendors that took a chance at this small convention.
I got in a little early since I had press passes, there was a pretty long line to get in. I talk to my local comic shop owner and he said he did well. So I think those vendors actually selling comics and collectibles probably did really well. It was too few vendors for my taste. I was more an artist alley without know artist.
😎 The early Bob Hope issues like the one you have were drawn by the great Owen Fitzgerald ; who had a fluid animation style. Bob Oksner and Mort Drucker were Fitzgerald's successors on the book. Invisible Scarlet O' Neil by Russel Stamm is an enjoyable comic strip that later added a non costumed super powered hero named Stainless Steel ; obviously a riff on the Man of Steel. Joe Palooka #1 with Ham Fisher art before it reached the level of success where Fisher later hired "ghost" artists to produce the strip ; Al Capp and Moe Leff. Years later Ham Fisher would start a nasty fued with Al Capp that never got resolved. During Capps tenure as the artist and writer on Joe Palooka he developed a storyline where a hillbilly named Big Leviticus would become a challenger of Joe. Big Leviticus proved to be a popular character which gave Capp the opportunity to begin his creation of Li'l Abner. When Li'l Abner became a phenomenal success Ham Fisher got jealous.and claimed that Capp had stolen "his" idea of a hillbilly character. It was a nastier fued than even the more well known DCSuperman - Fawcett Comics Captain Marvel one.
I do enjoy the Owen Fitzgerald covers as well, He had one of the Oskner covers too but I passed on it because it was too beat up. Eitherway I would love to put a full run together, I love the covers. Thanks for all the info and history.
When I am out and about hunting its for myself, I do it because I enjoy it. That being said I do cull duplicates etc a few times a year into the shop etc

It will be in October, they denied me for press passes so I am trying to get professional passes via my shop. Hopefully I can get them so I can get in all 4 days.

tell you the truth most comic book conventions are pretty dead these days. mostly dominated by photoshoots and female cosplayers and their needless booths. its not the same anymore and just being a vendor their is pretty pointless. if its not manga or anime, then comic cons are pare comparisons too anime conventions where they sell tons of stuff.

I tend to grab things on announcement if I dont own it yet so I dont miss out, just in case I really like the show or movie.

Yeah I see them semi often in dollar bins, I believe I have the full set so I usually pass over them.
