I am a big fan of Deep Purple . So i am here because of the connection between Joe Meek and Ritchie Blackmore . I am now fascinated by the music produced by Joe Meek .

Many thanks for watching - yes, Ritchie Blackmore, like Jimmy Page, did a lot of great session work in the 60s.

This is beyond awesome! Thanks for doing this! I love I Hear A New World (it somehow reminds me of the great BBC Radiophonic Workshop as well, now that would be a fantastic collaboration that never happened) but I honestly didn't know much else. This is such a deeper dive on Joe Meek that I will certainly reference from no own. Just great❤

Glad you liked the Meek video! I think there are parallels with I Hear A New World and the Radiophonic Workshop . Take care, John.

I hate james cordon with a passion & i was extremely pissed off to find him playing the part of clem catini but apart from that the rest of the film is great & the jimmy carr cameo was hilarious!
Thank you for this video.. There was so much that was almost lost , can you imagine finding those tea chests ?

Hi John, I always liked that Honeycombs song, Have I the Right, which for a long time I thought was called Come Right Back. Joe Meek did a fantastic job on that song, making it a big hit. I had the Lord Sutch and Heavy Friends LP, and read about him in Ugly Things magazine. I also saw the film about Joe that you mentioned, he was such a tortured genius. The Packabeats sound like garage rock years before garage rock was a thing. Now I have to seek out some of these comps! Very interesting video John, well researched and entertaining. Cheers.

Hi John, great video bringing the wonderful Joe to the VC masses...I have a couple of other CD comps you didn't show but I guess they all recycle 90% of the same stuff. At least until the tea chest reveals more gems. I got the first two 10" records last year and have pre-ordered the next one. Always great to see 60s original singles and company sleeves - I'm on the look out for Meek production credits at boot sales this year. Take care Dale

Thanks Dale. I am looking forward to many more Tea Chest Tape releases. As I said some Meek original 45s are easy to find, others super rare and with sky high prices. Good luck on your searches.

I found a vinyl copy of the Joe Meek Story on eBay (oct 23) and won it for a mere £5.50 and it’s in near mint condition .. an excellent compilation to own!

Thanks John. Joe Meek is one of the most interesting characters of early 60s UK rock and roll. A huge amount of recordings in a short amount of time.

    Interesting video John.
The Heinz song you played was crazy catchy.
I definitely see the similarity with Screaming Lord Sutch and David Vanian, too alike to be coincidental.
Some great tunes and nice story telling..I need to get me some Joe Meek for sure!.
Funny story; Freddie Starr was drunk and did a ridiculous dance whilst my brother and I were busking in Solihull Town centre back in the 90s..his partner grabbed him by the ear and dragged him away..I assume out of sheer embarrassment!! .
Great to see you again, hope you're keeping well. 👍

I like the Freddie Starr story! He could be pretty funny at times. I remember some of the rock and rollers from the Joe Meek roster turning up on tv in the 80s and 90s, people like Heinz doing nostalgia tours.

I have to admit. I did not know who Joe Meek was until this video. Wow. He had quite a career. So of the ones that you showed look really interesting. The bands and artists on them are endless. I love the Heinz 'Just Like Eddie' track from 1963. The Packabeats are cool too. Were they basically an instrumental band? I appreciate you sharing this video John. I enjoyed it thoroughly~

With reference to Peter jay and the jaywalkers Totem Pole ,Simon May stole this tune and used it as the theme for Howard’s Way which he claimed to have written.

I may take a trip to the UK for the sole purpose of taking a look at your wardrobe closet. Pretty sure that would be more interesting than the Tower of London. I know the name of Joe Meeks but not much else. It was really interesting to hear what he was involved with. Very interesting and great to see the reissues coming out. Weird they are doing it in 10 inch records though. Fascinating video John

Hi Di Hi John! Though I've known of him, and read about him, for years I've never really investigated his music (beyond Telstar and Have I The Right). I Hear A New World sounds intriguing. Dave vanian definitely does owe a lot to Screaming Lord Sutch for his image. All the best... Pete
