Sir Terry Pratchett, the Turtle Knight, the Wielder Of the Eightfold Staff, clad in robes of octarine. He was the ultimate wizard: with just his words and a pinch of imagination, he created an entire world.
    Rest well, good Knight.

A man, whose very existence made the world a better place. Earth is the poorer for his passing

How wonderful that three such diverse, strong - and BRILLIANT - minds could come together and create something that was far larger than their not inconsiderable selves.
Sir Terry's passing has broken my heart - and I grieve for the loss we all are experiencing at his departure. I would have loved to continue to look forward to yearly publications of his - and his collaborators, whoever they might have been.
Like so many others - Sir Terry's magical work that "made sense" has informed the way I think almost more than any other books I've read or lessons I've learned in my 66 years on this planet. And I would love to have had the opportunity to say "thank you."

The Science of Discworld is a delight. Sir Terry is very much missed but the SOD brings a bit more of him into the present.

I had a philosophical epiphany last night and I'm mentally at a similar place. I've never heard about Terry until now. I feel like I have all the answers....I feel so connected to everything. And there are other people out there....my mind is blown.

These three old white guys have had an effect on my life that I don't think I can ever put into words. I once made quite an arse of myself at a signing by asking Sir Terry what it is like to write books people 'worship', but that wasn't the right word for what I meant, and it was the wrong question to ask. SoD II's description of the importance of stories in what makes us human has shaped my viewpoint ever since, and the world now makes so much more sense. For me, the SoD series have been "that book" that Origin of Species was for Sir Terry.
I don't have a point here, and I don't have a question, but I wanted to say something. so here it is.

      You're right that was gibberish.
I could not have done any better, I have since found out that the great man passed away on the 12/3/15 I'm absolutely gobbed smacked. I started the piece but something happened and I had to start again. Well bugger me he's gone....... The only other Author that I would give the time of day to is JRR Tolkien and I never got to speak with him either.
Apparently he started the Disc world series in 1983 and I started reading them in 86. He started and finely honed my sense of the ridiculous, at first I was resistant as I saw his novels as a piss take on the fantasy genre, it took no time at all though till I was well and truly hooked! Reaper man finished it, I have no allegiance to any religion since before or after reading Pratchett but I now don't fear the personification of death since "Reaper man"
To say he changed my life is going a bit far but he certainly improved it and without being too gushy when my first marriage fell apart and I had to deal with all the associated crap. His books which I have read and reread over and over gave me something to laugh at.
I can say he'll be missed by millions. As the librarian would say.
      Ook...

The only complaint about this is that it ended. I could have listened forever.

I was filled with joy to listen to these 3 fine minds. Thanks to each for their contribution to making our lives much more interesting and fun. Terry's books are filled with huge and funny insights into human nature. And turtles.

Ian Stewart was a maths professor at the University of Houston when I was a maths graduate student there. It's really nice to see him again! I wish I had aged as well as he has.

8:30 "I learned a wonderful word, 'privative'. It's when your mum says 'close the window, you're letting the cold in.' ...It makes sense; you open the window and it's colder inside, the cold must have come in."
    Other privatives are:
    Dark
    Sunset
    Money
    Free will
    Beauty

That's the trouble with great things. In time. They tend to end. I was trying to find a punctuation that's proper for the sentiment. Use a comma or a semicolon instead of the period. Or small caps.

RE 30:10 - I don't have a PHD, I'm not that smart, but I did get both my MA degrees by being a stubborn, pig-headed little bugger who argued with his Professors until they gave in & awarded the degrees simply to make me shut up & leave the office.
