- This week for the “Bitcoin Magazine Podcast,” we have a replay of last week's interview between Adam Back and Pete Rizzo on Satoshi's legacy. Back is the cofounder and CEO of Blockstream and the inventor of proof of work.
Back reflected on discovering Bitcoin and searching for the best information about it in the early days. He worked hard to understand the technical components as well as all of Satoshi's writings about Bitcoin. Back is not a fan of over-glorifying Satoshi or quoting them, as he doesn’t believe it is as important for individuals to learn from Satoshi's thinking as it is for them to define Bitcoin based on the product and network itself.
Back and Rizzo reflected on the differences between the stated intent of the Bitcoin project, what is actually being built and how Satoshi contributed to that ethos. Enjoy this wide ranging conversation on Satoshi's authority, influence and legacy.
Topics discussed include:
How Adam started to try and understand what Bitcoin was
Is there any value in understanding what Satoshi thought about Bitcoin?
The aversion in the Bitcoin development community about speaking about Satoshi
How, under Satoshi, Bitcoin had a very different development model
Bitcoin Core is today more of a meritocracy. So, why does Bitcoin need a meritocracy?
Satoshi has been gone for 10 years. Is Nakamoto still influential in Bitcoin today?
It’s been said that nobody understands Bitcoin. Was it possible for Satoshi to understand Bitcoin?
The biggest mistake that Satoshi Nakamoto made in building Bitcoin
Was it necessary to remove Satoshi ?
Where does Satoshi Nakamoto rank in terms of the biggest intellectual contributors to Bitcoin
Why do you think Satoshi hasn’t moved their Bitcoin

"Reflections on Satoshi with Satoshi Nakamoto and Pete Rizzo"
haha
Yes
Yes 😂
Hal finny is satoshi
Best reply here. We love you Satoshi.
I'm a simple man.
When Satoshi speaks, I listen!
@@waynealan3067 As one researcher put it, "You either die a hero, or live long enough to be the villian". There's nothing wrong in forming a company that provides a valuable service and charges a small fee for it. Especially if the service is serving your own invention
So you heard Craig Wright's recent talk at the bitcoin conference?
Thank you Adam we know who you are and we owe you so much
We all know you are the one... Mr Hero Adam
😂😂😂
I like how Adam always leaves hints for those who are attentive. In Bitcoin’s whitepaper you can only find Adam’s name. In another interview he said I’m not not Satoshi.
During whole this interview he was discreet and was careful with his words and just in the end he said it “was fun”. It’s fun to answer questions about yourself like you don’t know who you are.
A very natural thing to do; giving credit to the co-creator that BTC was built on (hashcash). Same person of course, np.
yes, Im sure he is giving us some clues , for sure he has a profound knowledge of the space.
Thank you Adam for changing the world with Bitcoin. I suspect it will be one of the greatest moral leaps in human history.
Indeed. Pressed directly, Adam will deny your implication, yet he leaves these lovely little teasers on Twitter. Things like, [Poster] "I think Satoshi was a group of people", [Adam] "Oh, I'm pretty sure he was just one person".
Hal finney, Adam back, len sasseman and nick szabo. I believe some combination of these guys was satoshi.
Quite suspicious how often he has to reiterate that it's good Satoshi supposedly withdrew from the public ...
Adam is Satoshi
@@chrismale9976 woosh
And how he’s against pple just quoting Satoshi
@@topdog5252 Yes. That's why Satoshi is anonymous. He wanted Bitcoin to stand on it's own. Owned and used by the people, not some CEO or inventor. In another interview Adam states that hierachical thinking is counter-productive and unnecessary. Hence, Bitcoin has no leader - it's a currency for the people.
That, and Satoshi knew that a successful pseudononymous currency would be used by criminals so wanted no trace-back in case law agencies got involved.
@@peterscottmorgan1 yes! The original white paper literally says Bitcoin should not be dependent on any charismatic leader.
I love how he's literally not able to answer a question unsuspiciously LOL .. "how'd you get into it" = I read every satoshi article "what was your impression of who he was?" when i get into tech i try to read everything "yeah... what? did you not hear my question, satoshi?"
No emails with Adam Back and Satoshi have ever been found, but emails for every other developer has.
haha
Adam is Satoshi. We owe him so much
there were none for nick szabo either, also nick szabo writes double space after period too
@@lucass8317 Its Adam not nick. You need to watch barely sociable bitcoin. No doubt whatsoever its Adam
@@chrismale9976 False
Satoshi is talking about Satoshi haha
Satoshi on Satoshi
Legend
A little bit of Emotion from Satoshi at the end...''That was fun, bye'' 🤓
Adam gets a chance to speak at 6:10
42:13 Adam get a chance to eat it '' eat the lie " '' throat moving ""
Interesting way both, the interviewer and the interviewee, found to show what the actual Satoshi thinks without officially unveiling the identity, making Adam answer the questions in 3rd person. Great initiative and contribution from Pete Rizzo, thank you. And also thank you to Adam to keep his alter ego alive through this method. It it always interesting to know what Satoshi thinks of the current state of Bitcoin. I missed one question though, I'd have asked him why doesn't he burn that 1M early mined bitcoins sitting in his wallet? Is he planning to dump on us one day? What else?
Remember that in addition to his IT skills, Adam also has a qualification in Economics! As far as I am aware, he is the only Satoshi candidate to have a academic background all the disciplines required to create a crypto currency.
An Invention for the ages; I assume it will still be around for decades before it's found obsolete and replaced with something more modern.
That is Craig Wrights creation.
I'm most impressed with Satoshi's (and many of the devs today) grasp of psychology and sociology in respects to game theory. From using self interest as tool to secure the network, to protection from obscure forms of attack; It's quite impressive!
He didn't see holding. A depreciating currency can't function well....
Craig wright created bitcoin and much more Iimpressive than this guy.
When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be true. That's why all of this leads to Adam Back as satoshi.
Or Hal Finney
@@TheBitcoinRevolution The real mystery is not who is Satoshi. Adam Back is Satoshi. The real mystery is why he doesn't just come out and say it. Most likely he just wants a normal life.
Have you read Pete Rizzo's piece?
Or Nick Szabo.
@@TheBitcoinRevolution No. But there are endless articles. Endless CZcams videos. Lots of Bitcoin experts.
Amazing
You have to give credit to Pete Rizzo asking Adam all these questions about Satoshi during the whole interview and acting like he does not have a clue.
Does Pete actually know Adam is Satoshi
Pete is a gifted actor, no doubt.
All Thanks to Adam! Bless U Sir! Satoshi is Adam, and he figured a way to create an L2 in his own name (Lightning); and build on top of bitcoin to use with the banks; which he assumed was necessary (thus keeping the small block size); would help with government adoption of BTC. BTC still works on it's own, and you can build L2s on it, so it did not matter to him except to see it adopted by the entire world. Moving to Malta about the time Satoshi disappeared (Malta is the world famous EU tax haven; a powerful passport is available for a cool $1M); he is still managing BTC development (in minute detail as head of Blockstream); his emails to Satoshi erased and not available (because they would prove he was Satoshi), it was obvious to many that worked with him during formation of Blockstream that there was really no question.
So it’s basically Adam back talking about Adam back…lol..
To name himself satoshi nakamoto before being famous knowing the future is truly a sign of genius
We see you Mr.Nakamoto 🤣
this dude keeps doing that smirk after asking his questions. he forsure knows he's satoshi
I went down a rabbit hole so I know perfectly everything Satoshi did and wrote
And his first post as Adam on the forum in 2013 was highlighting a bug that none of the deveopers had noticed. I believe that was his way of saying something to those with ears to hear
You wasted your time if you didn't figure out who craig wright is.
Everything adan just described about satoshi and bitcoin fits Dr Craig Steven Wright. His life backround, education in various fields that correlate wuth bitcoins design ect. Working on and designing a similar functioning network to bitcoin in the early days of the internet for the Australian stock exchange and others. Hes an asperges savant that is the most efficient, harworking and relentless man ive ever seen. Ive got alot of love for Craig and if hes not some neferious puppet actor for special interests then we can only thank God for this gift to mankind.
I love how Adam is smiling secretly the whole time like how excited he is the world has eaten up this project. Almost as if he were Satoshi himself
If I was SN, I would do exactly the same thing; talk about Satoshi with Pete Rizzo; with a grin too wide to cover up the truth.
Nick Szabo and Hal.... we thank you for what you did.
best poker faces ever:D
I've just heard him say that it was important that Satoshi left and is no longer involved, or is he's still involved, it's under a different name and identity. If that isn't the biggest clue that he is Satoshi, without directly saying so, I don't know what is!
I still think it's likely that "Satoshi" is still a collective of early devs considering Adam Backs behaviour after Hal Finney died is enough against the original vision, its clear the vision was a compromise of many peoples view of the way Bitcoin needed to be.
"how much of your work have you read?"
Nick Szabo was probably the head of SN
He chooses every word so slowly and carefully because he doesn't want to give away his identity. Have you ever seen a more guilty face?
He is simply delighted that he called it all well enough he can claim not to be the creator; but fair enough; he did us all a big solid.
Why Watford !?
American accent and a Watford FC shirt. Was so confused at the start haha.
He doesn't have an American accent
@@peterscottmorgan1 Ah ok sorry. I'm from London (near Watford) and it sounds vaguely American to me. What accent is it?
Would it be true that it is good for Bitcoin to be OSSIFIED to force LEVEL 2 development ? There is a testbed risk that future bugs will not be discovered by present technology.
The real satoshi is quite a bit duller than the mythical satoshi
What does Satoshi have for breakfast?
Omelette 😁
This man helped change the protocol and fork bitcoin but forgot to change the ticker. BsV is the real original bitcoin and Satosi = Craig Wright.
Any chance Craig Wright is Satoshi ??? He stands behind Bitcoin SV. I'm really interested in people's opinions on that.
Lol, NO. Craig is insane
Why would be be in all these legal cases blocking the original whitepaper and whatnot
Zero. −273.15 °C kind of zero
Craig is 100% Satoshi
The irony…
