  • Winter is upon us here in the Bipolar state of Ohio and I have always wanted a remote start system for a vehicle, what better rig to install it on than my 2011 Toyota Prius Camper! The remote start system that I chose uses the factory key fob and plugs into the OBD2, you can buy it from the affiliate link here: amzn.to/38T0Nvm It is a very straight forward setup and all of the frustrations in this video were caused by my impatient mistakes!
    Special thanks to my good friend Josh for stopping by and hooking me up with a set of WeatherTech rain guards! amzn.to/34G9FRT He also struggled with the install but at the end of the day we got it done and everything turned out fantastic!

    So glad it’s not just me that starts what should be a 30 minute job, and ends up taking all day. Well done for preserving. I’d have given up and taken it to a dealer!

    This video just saved my life! Installing the exact same unit on a 2012 CT200h and everything behind the dash looks identical, but there are NO videos installing on a CT. Thanks a bunch!

    If you had a car back in the 90s and early 2000s and you had an aftermarket alarm installed, as most did, you would remember the names like Viper, Python or Clifford... they were all made by Directed Electronics.

    I know ur pain. I’ve literally done the same thing replaced a sensor that was giving a check engine code then got the dreaded triangle of death. All because I didn’t click the orange plug over lol. I’m gonna have to find this remote start on Amazon now. Looks awesome man.

    Solder is your best friend lol but it's coming together man I like it! Little tip if you need more range on the remote start hold it up to your head the water in it amplifies the singal even further. Try it out! Or you can use a gallon of water

    Hello Ohio! I'm from Ohio too! Good job on video! ...yep I could never go on a Prius form, I didn't buy a Prius (cause I think I'm ignorantly saving the planet) ..I bought one cause I have to travel so far to visit family, and it pays me to drive it! ..not to mention Toyota's will get 400,000 miles without batting an eye if you take care of it! ...I've never heard anyone call it a Pri-Use! lol

    You can buy an antenna kit with remotes pretty cheap if you need more range. Directed has pretty good products, the DS4+ is the mack daddy

    • @snowman0129
      @snowman0129 Před 4 lety

      @@AdventureDaily I'm assuming you have the Directed DB3 ? If that's the case you'll need an XL202 , it's an xpresskit product. Then you can buy an assortment of remotes, one button to four button. An example would be Automate 9115A ( contains two remote, antenna, and antenna cable) this particular one is a one button for remote start only but you can buy the four button remotes for long range keyless entry too. I work for Ziebart Indianapolis, we have stores in Ohio probably close to you. They could help you with any questions, and for products although it would be much cheaper to order yourself. It all comes with instructions for programming and it's pretty simple

    Do you have a part number or link to the system on amazon? I can't seem to find one with the simple 3 wire install. Love the comment about not buying a prius for the environment, I got one for me and my wife because we were tired of spending $400+ a week in fuel driving our trucks to and from work.

    • @HDauto02
      @HDauto02 Před 3 lety +1

      Also you say only 3 wires but is there also a direct plug into part of the cars harness that I see when you are zip tying everything up?

  • @meaganthomas2777
    @meaganthomas2777 Před 2 lety

    Did you download the firmware before installing? The Amazon reviews mention having to "flash" the product to the particular car model. Apparently, only authorized dealers with registered companies can log into the company's website and download this flash firmware.

    as a Toyota Technician those remote starts are nice but the range really sucks as it uses the factory fobs and they don't got the best range.
