Definitely a Gen X 🙋🏻♀️😁 I was a tomboy growing up so I was pretty reckless on my mountain bike. Of course this was before people were required to wear helmets etc… 😂 I have scars all over my knees and one on my arm where I really scraped it up. I’m so happy I grew up when I did and spent so much time outside. I’m proud of the scars and memories. I’ll never forget my idiot older cousin who threw rocks at a hornets nest in my grandmother’s avocado tree. He got stung on his nose. I will never forget that 😆🤣😂!! We all warned him not to do it but he needed to find out the hard way. 🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️ Memories 😁❤️. Thank you, Gemma!!

Oh that shirt is fab! I adored ONJ as a child and listened to my mums records daily, for a bunch of years. My favourite was her sweet country version of Ring of Fire (Jonny Cash) & I would "perform" it to my school friends, because we played a game called "young talent time " in honour of our favourite tv show. As.someone who looks after children in their own homes, i detest Dyson vacuum cleaners. They're rubbish!

Falling when you’re a kid is different from when you fall as an adult, isn’t it? Recovery is longer anyway. 😂 I fell on Friday. Misjudged the height of the curb (kerb) and fell. Scraped my hand, hurt my arm catching myself, and bruised my leg, not to mention the embarrassment. Ugh. I didn’t even cry until I got home. 😢

That’s so true - so sorry you fell, it’s horrible. I did the same with a curb on a bike and fell off onto the pavement. It’s so much more embarrassing when you’re older! ❤️🩹
Fellow Gen Xer here. So much of what you listed was right on. Like you, I flew over the handlebars on my bicycle. My parents were teaching me. They let go when I thought they were holding onto the back of the bike and when I looked back to see them so far behind me, I froze and rode straight into a hedge (flew over the handlebars, into the prickly hedge). Love your Olivia shirt, I loved her and remember listening to "Have you ever been mellow" over and over again. I sent away for an autographed photo of her and received it on my tenth birthday which I still have. Also love your cool blue mug. Thank you for the reading, Gemma! I LOVE YOUR SHIRT!!! My absolute favorite growing up. I had tickets to see her show at Westbury and the show was cancelled due to her being diagnosed with breast cancer. Never did get to see her. And do you remember when Physical was outlawed due to content...boy have times changed. If I had a quarter for every ONJ song I sang doing chores on a Sat. morning....Landslide was my favorite...she married that jerknozzle in the video :( Anyway, RIP Olivia, always my favorite.

Gen X here. I remember never getting fed during the day, I flew over my handle bars twice and rarely seeing my parents except when I was being punished for not controlling my younger siblings or sneaking off to kiss boys. Perhaps that's why I shelter my own kids so much ❤️

Gen X here. It's all true! And apparently it's universal. I'm American and I've my German Gen-Xers friend and British Gen X-ers friend all tell the same the story! Yet I can pretty much guarantee that my mom in San Francisco didn't call my friend's mom who lived in Munich to share note! Did everyone fly over their handlebar?🤕 I wonder. "Don't tell mom! Gen X-ers check in...😂...I remember my girlfriends and i all had new dirt bikes and we ran them down a hill with a muddy rocky spot at the bottom. We all bit the dust pretty hard. Myself sailing up and over my handlebars. I came home and showed my mama my fingers that were pointing in odd directions and she said after being seasoned from many such incidents, "I'm going to finish my coffee and then I will take you to the emergency room!"

I watched a kind of nice interview with some academic who’s written a book on the negative impact that technology is having on kids (that part was kind of worrying/upsetting) and a movement that he’s trying to help spearhead to make children not only get outside more, but also back some of that independence and know how and have less helicopter parenting. He lives in New York and his own kids ride the subway by themselves now (considered by some a big no no). He said that we have many more problems due to poor mental health than due to kidnapping, which is relatively rare. I have to say, I was quite taken with his ideas 🤓 but I have no children to experiment on 😂
Couple of my friends have expressed the opinion of my irish friend that I should close the proverbial door on that and move on. Part of me thinks they are right, part of me thinks I should persevere a little longer before calling time. He is very much like the person described in a couple of extended readings I've watched 😮😱.
